This took me straight to my childhood in the Carpathians of Romania, listening to the shepherds whistle and live in nature with their flocks. 🇷🇴⛰🐏 While traveling Mongolia in my early 20s, I was so inspired by the simplicity of the nomadic lifestyle, I bought one of their Gers (Mongolian Yurt) and have been living in it across the Northwest US for the last 13 years, as my symbol of freedom and proximity to nature. Shepherds of the world have SO much to teach our lost/confused/depressed world of consumers. As new generations see this film, and your future documentary, maybe shepherds can call humanity back to our roots, save our plant, and live happier simpler lives! 🌿 Keep changing the world one film at a time Eva!

@@edwardmacnab354 I think they are talking more about a fulfilling sense of purpose that is not driven by wanting more. Many younger people keep themselves so occupied that they do not stop and reflect upon their life's worthiness and fulfilment. If you are always so busy working so you can afford all the things people are supposed to want and you never stop and examine what actually holds meaning and what a life with purpose looks like then you aren't going to feel lost or confused. I am happy that you chose to talk about the Carpathian shepherds. I appreciate their ancient traditions, which have existed for hundreds of years along the Carpathian Mountains. I cannot ignore the fact that Polish shepherding traditions are similar to those in Romania. The Polish shepherd performs the same rituals yearly as Romanian shepherds (in Romanian, it is called transhumanta = transhumance). They wear the same traditional clothing, and in Polish villages, we can still see the old wooden houses with architecture similar to that of Romanian villages. Furthermore, there is a region in southern Poland called Bukowina, and Romanians refer to the northern (north-east) part of Romania as Bucovina. This tradition of transhumance has driven flocks of sheep and their shepherds along the Carpathian Mountains for hundreds of years (if not longer). Thus, we can observe similar traditions in Slovakia and the Czech Republic in villages or towns near the Carpathian Mountains. Last but not least, I want to highlight the term "watra" at 18:46. It is an old Romanian word, “vatra,” meaning the same as in Polish (the place where we make a fire), along with other meanings. At 18:46, the shepherd says, “watra jest,” which translates to "watra is." This sounds exactly like the Romanian phrase, “vatra este,” and has the same meaning: “vatra is.” I am very passionate about the linguistic similarities and how languages evolve over time in different parts of Europe.

Vatra is a pure romanian word of traco-ilirian origin shared historically nowadays by the romanian and the albanian languages. I dont think there's such a word in the polish language. And if it is... it's clearealy a loan from the romanian.

I love your recent travels and adventures in your native Polish land and seeing many traditional things you are experiencing. Through current events around the world is seems Poland is one of the few countries that is holding on to it's roots and people so strong. I even recognize a few Polish phases spoken but unfortunately my mother never taught us kids the language, which she certainly could have done as my grandfather never lost his use of the language. As for the shepherding, I feel it is important those traditions carry on as much as possible. And even my son would be ecstatic to be in the company of those shepherd dogs - he worked in a shelter for a while and had a lot of exposure to those breeds. Thank you so much for providing us insight to these lifestyles and experiences. Peace and love for more adventures with you.

When I lived in the Eifel mountains of Germany, there were many sheep with traditional shepherds and sheep dogs. We used to judge the size of the by how many shepherds and dogs were used to manage the herd. As a side note, I had a friend who owned an Australian sheepdog. He had a lot of land, and some of us were playing American touch football. I was watching with the owner and he pointed out to me that when the team was in the huddle prior to a play, the dog sat quietly, but when they broke up and the receiver ran out for a pass, the dog ran after him, barking. It was a natural trait of the dog to want to chase the stray "sheep" back into the herd.

Growing up in Poland , I always loved Polish mountains , later on my children got to appreciate spending time there, the hike to bacówka was always the highlight of their vacation in Poland .
