Traditional British beers should be cool rather than cold - so around your 55F. Lagers and ciders are often chilled, probably similar to standard beers in the US. Ciders were traditional drinks for agricultural workers and were certainly never chilled. Brown ale should be a mild flavoursome beer, seasonal ales are usually high in alcohol and often with a spicy taste derived from complex hop and malt combinations, some may also add fruits or spices to the brew. Porter should be a fruity version of brown ale although the original porters were PROBABLY blended beers, but nobody really knows. IPA - India Pale Ale - was originally produced to survive transport of India from the UK, by sea, via the Cape, in the days of Empire. Very high hops are the major factor in it surviving to be drinkable.
@FinnLovesFood3 жыл бұрын
I wondered where the IPA name came from. And the high hops explain why it's not one of my favorites!
@birdie15853 жыл бұрын
@@FinnLovesFood Traditionally low alcohol too - around 3%. It will be online somewhere, but the trip from Burton (-on-Trent, UK) to some of the furthest parts of India will have taken many weeks whereas standard beers would have been past their best a long time before that. No refrigeration en route either. It should have a clean, fresh, sharp taste, probably a long way from "standard" US beers (I have only tasted Bud' and thought it was pretty unremarkable, but it is a lager). Budvar - the Czech beer that was supposedly copied to become US Bud' - is very nice (though a lot of Americans hate it - it tastes of real beer). Today, Bud' and Budvar are both made in the UK.
