At the Scandinavian / Nordic festival we attended, we picked up some chocolate from Finland by the company Fazer. This is our first time trying Finnish chocolate. Have you tried Fazer chocolate before?
If you would like to send us something, please send to our P.O. box:

Fazer are lovely. I tried the mint creams and the half milk, half white ones, but they were mini chocolates and not bars. I went to Helsinki in 2007 for The Eurovision Song Contest, and they had free chocolates in the press centre

Holding that Fazermint seemed to bring a glimmer of hope into Ross' eyes. Fazer is the leading producer of chocolates, sweets and biscuits in Finland with a market share of 30-40%. Geisha's story starts from the 60s. Karl Fazer liked a Japonica pastry he ate in a cafe in Helsinki and asked his people to come up with a milk chocolate bar with similar filling. If you happen to go the Scandinavian store again and they are available there, Ross might like Fazer's Marianne minty dark chocolate filling candies. And I have to say that Ross looks like a hardy salmiakki guy, but I guess the looks can be deceiving. If you're interested, here's a video about Fazer: "Fazer The Fazer Story". And Fazer is also to thank for turning salmiakki into candy: "Very Finnish Problems Why Finland fell in love with salty liquorice".

Thank you for the background on the Geisha chocolate bar. Ross doesn't even like the sweet licorice we have here so couldn't be convinced by salmiakki! :)

I LOVE the dark chocolate and mint from childhood, my Finnish Mummi (Grandmother) use to have them in her house and I would always get into them. I need to try the Geisha ones. Great review!

If you like that one, you need to try Ferro Rocher hazelnut cream filled one. Here in Oregon we love hazelnuts. Wish they had Marionberry Fazer hazelnut flavor. That would be the 💣.

Geisha has cherry blossom pictures in the wrapped because Geisha is a japanese professional entertainer and cherryblossoms present Japan.

We're familiar with Geisha and cherry blossoms - we used to get a Japanese snack box and usually if it was pink with cherry blossoms, it was cherry blossom flavor. We just weren't sure how it ended up on Finnish chocolate with hazelnut flavor. 🙂

@@FinnLovesFood To be honest, I as a Finnish person, don't know either :) But in Fazer's page, they tell that the chocolate bar got inspiration from a pastry which was called Japonica ( it had japonica filling ). The name and the pink color was borrowed from another Fazer-candy that got a new name, Tokyo. Japan was an inspiration for this new product ( Geisha ) because it was topical at the time because of The Olympic games of Tokyo.

Fazer is prononced "faht-ser". Try also Finnish Panda chokolate. My grandfather was the chokolate master, who restarted that chokolate produktion after WWII creating basically the whole chokolate division for that sweets maker. Panda also makes good licoriche.

Someone should invent a coconut liquorice, imagine the glee on Ross's face and then the horror of finding the licorice, I don't think I've tried Finnish chocolate but I've had many Danish pastries, apart from UK chocolate the only other one I've tried was Polish which I found unpalatable.

Finnish Lapland can only be considered to be "kinda" Scandi due to geography and how the difference between what us Scandinavia and Fennoscandi are seperated by geography. Even then Finland as a country is Fennoscandi, including Lapland. It's a shame that people still continue to bunch us up as Scandinavian, when it's very easy knowledge that we are anything but. Sure, we are Nordic and very happily so, but we aren't Scandi. 😂
@FinnLovesFood

@@FinnLovesFood Majority of Nordics don't care about the distinction between Scandinavia and Nordic. The only people that do are either know-it-all's and geography nerds. Normal people simply do not care. This is why Finland often actively bands together under the Scandinavia banner during international events and stuff. Like I said, only know-it-all's and geography people care.
@darkmage7280
@darkmage7280 6 ай бұрын
@@Caldera01 Wrong. The majority of Nordics DO care, and a lot. Swedes, Norwegians & Danes find it offensive that backwoods barbarians stuck in the 1880s such as Finns could be mistaken as Scandinavian. Finns find it offensive that we would be lumped together with naïve wimps like actual Scandinavians.
