I was dead laughing when the bites of the birds eye chili was taken. In my mind I was like “uhhhhh…. Do they know the spice level of those chilis?”😅
@pr6014

Guys, just so you know we Thai people don't eat chillies separately from the sausage. It goes together in one bite with the vegetables only then you'll experience the real Saikrok Esan. When all the sweet and sour and the spice that got cooled off a lil bit by those green vegetables starts flooding the taste into your mouth

As a Thai myself, thanks for sharing some of Thai food to the world. I have to say that I internally screamed every time you guys eat that chili. It's so hilarious and a way of torture. But I have to say we don't usually eat chili on its own like that though. We would eat just a bit or it is okay if you just leave it. This is really great episode.

As a Thai/Laotian person, I got a little fun fact that my family does every year: Every year, there's this festival at the temple we got to from time to time, where we bring people together, who aren't Thai or Laotian, try Thai food that my family sells. We would also have a annual Papaya salad (aka Somtam) tasting contest. They're always so delicious. 😋

Somtam is not a snack. It’s the star of the table. Everything else that is served with Somtam, get served with Somtam because it goes with Somtam. The dish is more synonymous with northeastern Thailand (Isan) and Laos. Northeastern Thailand (Lan Chang) is seen as a distinguished region altogether, rather than just a part of Northern Thailand (Lanna). It’s one of the 4 regions by itself. However, Lanna people had also been enjoying them, but Somtam enjoys smaller regards over at the High North in comparison to Isan and Laos, where there are people who eat this religiously almost, if not, every day of their lives.

Sai Krok Isan (North-eastern style sausage) is the best to pair with cold beer. 🍺 You don't need to eat chilies, not all Thais can handle spiciness either. Besides chillies, normally the other choices of vegetables we eat along the sausage are fresh ginger, cucumber or cabbage. 😉

Thank you for bringing authentic, traditional Thai food to the Western. My comment is just fir Larb. This is a modified version. Typically we used minced pork not shredded one. The herb we used are mainly spring onion, red shallot and saw-tooth coriander. We don't use cilantro or chives. The main ingredient you can't miss is roasted ground uncooked rice. Flavour comes from fish sauce and lime juice with some ground dried chilli.

Love this episode. Just wanted to say that's not really how we eat the Thai chillies, we would normally bite a little bit off the chillie and then eat a sausage kind the same time as the chillie. It just makes it less spicy than eating the chillie on its own.

when you eat Saikrok Esan, don't eat the chilli alone, eat Saikrok and then eat a little bit chilli, cabbage or ginger. That helps balance the flavour and add variety to the food. Who eats chilli alone? that's wasted chilli...
