Just an FYI... a similar size tin of squid in ink is $1.54 at Wal-Mart.. 10 calories and 9 grams of protein. What a great protein source in a small package. When will Bruno be on again? My new favorite guest on any platform. ❤

In case it hasn't been clarified already, The full ration (breakfast, lunch and dinner units) is 3300 Kcal, each unit being roughly 1100 Kcal. All three usually come together in a large green plastic bag.

Dejeuner is lunch (not doing the accents I'm too lazy) petit dejeuner is breakfast. Also dejeuner can also mean breakfast as well as lunch, just depends on the french person and where they are on on socioeconomic ladder. So that's probably a thing Also some say "mange a midi" for lunch.... It's like how some people in the UK say dinner when meaning lunch and tea when meaning dinner or even supper (souper en français). I guess the Spanish had to come up with something

Here in Florida, there's a ton of Cuban and Carribean influence, Guava desserts are so good. We Americans love Mexican food but we've only dipped our toe in the rest of Latin American foods. Ropa Vieja is one of my favorite dishes, but desserts like Flan, Guava, Tres Leche are killer too. I'm assuming a lot of Spanish influence in their food too.

Here's a little experiment you can do, the electrolytes drinks packets you thought were very salty, mix one up after some (sweaty) exercise and have a taste then. It'd taste better when you're somewhat dehydrated and your body actually needs the minerals. While you're well hydrated you're more likely to note the salts since your body doesn't really need them. On what Bruno mentioned with the heat, he is indeed correct, but depending on how much fats are in there, you'd have a substantial amount of solidified fats in there that would liquefy with heat making it greasy and gross. Kinda like having a spoon of cold hollandaise.

A Spanish family moved near us in the late 50's. I was invited to lunch and they gave me a chunk of bread and a can of squid in it's own ink. Australins at that time were not accustomed to international food, actually the only non British cuisine we knew was from the local Chinese restaurant. I did not want to insult the family so I ate a piece on the bread, loved it. From then on when they went and bought groceries they would get me the occaisonal tin.
