We used to do what we called 'break down rats'. So we'd get issued rations hopefully before going into the field and could pull them apart and discard what we didnt want and supplement with 'jack rats', ie just store bought stuff you brought with you. That way you werent careying stuff you werent going to eat.

Obviously I cannot speak for everything, but British stuff just lacks flavor. When I was in Trashcanistan, we would go to the British PX occasionally. The British food and snacks all lacked flavor. Even things like mouthwash tasted like it was watered down. Then I went to Thailand for a week on leave and the food there tried to kill me. 😳

CSM lost his M16, he was freaking out, I was a PFC at the time, I found it, this happened during an alert at West Germany, I took CSM to the side so no one would see it , and gave it back to him. Back then I was a troubled soldier running with a bad crowd, I did bad things . I got drunk on guard duty and was caught, CSM made it go away, Eventually I straightened out , and soldiered .
