Fairy bread is a staple at children's parties, especially for the ages from 3 up to about 9. Slices of bread are usually cut into 4 triangle shapes, so there is no big corner crust for young teeth. Don't worry about leftovers, the parents picking up their little darlings will scoff (eat) any leftovers, usually with a comment like;- "Oh, fairy bread, l haven't had that in years." Which actually means not since the last party l took my child to. It's nice to see visitors trying our foods, and enjoying them. You'll have to come back sometime.
@twotravelingkings4 жыл бұрын

My mum used to stick fairy bread in my school lunches sometimes :) Untoasted is the way to go though. I’ve never eaten it toasted. BBQ shapes are the best. The left over tomato powder at the bottom of the bag is the greatest.

@Duane Dibbley and I don’t think they left the Anzac biscuits open on the bench for a few days either, so they won’t get the proper experience there either🙁. We all know that is the only way to eat store bought right?

do yourself a favour and don't eat those shit mass produced lamingtons. if you buy them you get them from a bakery they come with cream inside usually. and they taste 1000 times better. you could easy get the recipe and make your own fresh ones. lamingtons are also common fund raisers for schools and sports they call it a lamington drive similar to a sausage sizzle being the name for a fund raiser using a snag on bread. alao got a chuckle about the solo "its very carbonated" solos ad slogan is light on the fizz so you can slam it down fast.

If you like Woolworths lamingtons, then you will love going to a real bakery and getting lamingtons freshly made on the premises. Same with meat pies, there is a world of difference between pies bought from the supermarket and pies made by a real baker. There is a lot of coconut in Australian food because 54% of the country is in the tropics, and the country is a large producer of tropical fruits like bananas, mangoes, coconuts, etc. if you go to North Queensland you will see coconut palms all along the coast.
@twotravelingkings4 жыл бұрын
You are so right! We tried lamingtons and meat pies from a local bakery and they were so delicious! We made sure to get both during our last week in Australia. We definitely plan on seeing more of Queensland when we come back 😊 we'll look for the trees!
@tacitdionysus32204 жыл бұрын
Lamingtons were originally home-made, using segments of day old cake that is beginning to go a bit dry. Rolling it in chocolate sauce makes the cake moist again, and the coconut enhances the flavour and makes it less messy to handle.
@twotravelingkings4 жыл бұрын
Happy they were invented! One of my favs 😊
@phillipj.moodie30773 жыл бұрын
@@tacitdionysus3220 So nostagic. I am 83 and my Mother made a batch of lamingtons once week. With four young children in the house a sponge cake never sat around long enough to become "A day old" to form the basis of a traditional lamington. As we lived in Sydney a day old sponge was always dried out, so my Mother used to make an additional sponge, which she cooked in a rectangular tray, instead of the traditional 8 inch round cake tin. Then she would leave it for a day before she let me cut it up into cubes. But the real treat was that because she always made the lamingtons on Sunday, she would make an extra bowl of choclate iceing and stir the remaining desiccated coconut into the very stiff icing mix, then roll the mix into balls, which she would pack into the brown paper bag that contained our sandwiches packed into brown paper bags. But the big treat was when I was given enough money to go to the Bakery, in the shopping strip near the school to buy a pie with sauce and a freshly baked Boston Bun. 75 years later that's still my favourite lunch snack, because there is still an old fashioned Lunch Shop, in Clarendon Street South Melbourne, that still make their own pies, pasties and sausages rolls, along with a range of traditional "Biscuits" while the nearby Old Paper Shop Deli makes what are the best lamingtons that I have ever bought. Phil.

These guys are pretty likable. Tips: The best Anzac biscuits are homemade, they're super easy to make. Try the Wagon Wheel instead of the Arnott (pronounced AR-Not) Iced Vovo. I think Iced Vovos are a favorite of little old ladies. Fairy Bread - children love it at birthday parties due to how pretty it is, not so much the nutritional value or taste. You need very soft white bread and you need to press the hundreds and thousands into the bread a bit for it to stick to the butter. I'm glad to see you like Vegemite and eat it properly (sparingly). Try it on crisp buttered toast cut into strips (soldiers) dipped into a soft boiled egg. The best way to enjoy Vegemite! Good effort guys!

I made myself some Vegemite and Cottage Cheese. I gave them some to try and they were hooked, they went through Cottage Cheese like it was going out style. Simply Toast your bread, then spread on Vegemite and Top with a Thick layer of Cottage Cheese. In Australia we have a variety called Creamed Cottage Cheese, it best for Vegemite and Cottage Cheese. People complain that Cottage Cheese is too Bland and Vegemite is too Strong. But together it balances out. It's the only way I eat Vegemite, as far as I'm concerned It's Heaven.

Back in the 70s, early 80s - would go to the local bakery and get an unsliced, hot from the oven loaf of bread, come home, slice it thick, layer on butter (the real stuff back then) and then put on the vegemite. Was the only way to eat it!!! Now just have to make do with toast. But those smells and tastes combined are what childhood memories were made of.

Guys - you are amazing for trying these with an open mind. Aussie Pro Tip. Arnotts Shapes. You should have had the BBQ Shapes and Pizza Shapes. They're the aussiest ones. With the Arnotts biscuits, you should have also tried Mint Slice (yumm), Kingstons and the Royals. I'm absolutely stoked (aussie for impressed) that you did the Tim Tam Slam - and you did it the right way (opposite corners) - you get your Aussie Patch now. Ps. Have you tried chicken salt on some chips (fries or French fries)? And you nailed the Vegemite coverage! Pro Tip - add some smashed avo on top.

The way to have Milo as a kid in Australia, is to put heaps of Milo in a cup, then put a little bit of milk on top, then you use a tea spoon to eat the Milo with a tiny bit of milk each time, then finish by drinking the last little bit of milk at the end.

And if you look at the shapes box, the background is the shape of the shape you will find inside. My favourite flavours are the original barbeque, vegemite and original savoury. Hopefully some day you get to try a real sausage sizzle Edit: You can cook homemade anzac biscuits (my favourite treat) at home. My favourite is the chewy kind, so if you look up a recipe for chewy anzac biscuits you can have that as well. ANZAC bisucits were made to send to Australian loved-ones soldiers during World War (idk if it’s 1/2) because it wouldn’t go off when you sent it.

You have to have the butter or margarine already on your knife ready and waiting, so when the toast pops your ready with the butter then as soon as you put the butter on then put on the Vegemite as quick as you can. So then your basically swimming in butter and the toast is still piping hot! Beautiful,....got to be ready for that piping hot piece of toast with melting butter seconds after it pops. But if your still not that clever cold toast with Vegemite is still ok, lol! But it's best when everything is on that piece of toast only seconds after it pops,..with melting butter,...lol! And also better with fresh bread or a loaf from a proper bakery. Yum!
