I have 3 dogs 110 lbs, 60lbs, and 30lb full grown. It worked amazing on all of them and probably took 15ish minutes to get them to listen. It took the 30lb the longest to understand and would roll around like an alligator with me just standing there. But now I can walk all 3 and walk past squirrels, cats, other dogs and I don’t have to worry about being pulled down the street

@ you have to follow through every time you walk with the dogs. Like he says in the video. It gets easier the more you do. You gotta remember your not being mean to them your trying to get them to be able to go out into the world and have fun. My dogs love going on walks even with the prong collars

Good job! I've been biten in the pass by some of my own unruly dogs and cats. I never gave up and in time they became great animals. When I deal with unruly animals I wear a padded coat and padded gloves. On 11/15/23 I adopted a 1 1/2 year old Australian cattle dog named Koda from our local dog pound. I hit the lottery with Koda.! What a wonderful dog! Very beautiful, very smart, very loyal and very good natured. Always at my feet wherever I am. She loves everybody, good and bad people. She also loves other dogs, cats, all animals in general. Koda is a true saint of the dog world. Anyway, good job dealing with your American bulldog. I like American bulldogs and have always wanted one, but never came across one at the right time. Most of my dogs have been by accident, I was at the right place at the right time. Sometimes timing is very important. Take care!

Thank you. Even though I get this from my family members. I still needed this again. I’ve been training a 7 month old Corso by myself and it has been difficult. Not due to the dog per se, but doing it all myself has been hard. He’s now going through reactivity (going at his reflection in the oven…lunging/barking and other dogs and people), which is a beast especially since he’s 102 pounds and very strong. I’m now going to get a private trainer for this issue because I’m almost at my wits end. I wanted to put him back into a group class, but the trainer said I have to take care of the reactivity before going back to class. Weirdly he didn’t do this at the start of class, but the second to last one he lunged at another puppy. In his defense I believe he was already stressed before the class, because my husband stayed in the car, so our puppy kept whining and going toward the door that would lead him to his dad. I’m not giving up, but just wanted to vent a bit. Thank you.

@flowerchild9672 Great news: He's 7 months old! Some people would say that's a bad sign (him displaying reactivity at such a young age), but I'd say: They don't know Corsos! Corsos are a guarding breed, so his reactions aren't good or okay, but they're not unnatural. MANY Corsos develop some level of reactivity at some point, because it's what they were bred to do. But it's how the human handles it that determines whether or not it becomes a big issue. At 7 months old, he's recently started his adolescent/teenage phase. And, just like with human teenage boys, that flood of testosterone can produce behavioral changes. So, in a guarding breed like this, it's natural that those hormones can push him into reactivity. The fact that he's only 7 months old means that he's still relatively malleable (you can still "shape" him), so the fact that you're going to be working with a trainer in person is perfect. It'll take time and work, but if you're consistent, hopefully this will develop into a non issue over time. At the very least, you'll develop a routine that allows for it to be a non issue. You've got this. Dealing with a reactive dog can be challenging for EVERYONE. But remain consistent. That's what reactive dogs need more than anything: Consistent routines that they can depend on every day. The key is to make him feel like he doesn't have to worry about handling ANYTHING because you'll handle EVERYTHING. So make a routine and stick with it, and you'll be fine. Please feel free to reach out if there's anything I can do: www.youtube.com/@SomeMinorDogTraining

@@SomeMinorDogTraining thank you. If I didn’t mention it, but I think I did. All the puppies in this liter are going through the same thing, and he’s too young to have him fixed. Thankfully his prior trainer has worked with him and will be seeing him soon to get through this stage. He really is a very sweet puppy, but I have to build his confidence. I believe that’s the underlying problem, but as I said the trainer will let us know.

Podenco, 4 years (been with us 6 weeks from long term shelter) live in Spain. This was brilliant. Dont use prong collar (not allowed here) but worked with a harness. Pippin doesnt care about food so gets a little ear Scratch. He walks next to me now. The other lesson I learnt was he stops and smells when I let him. Not whenever he chooses. Gets to go smell in the country but until we get there we keep walking. This video made a huge difference.

Wow, wow, wow....UNBELIEVABLE!!!! "The prong collar is abusive".... BULL 💩💩!! Took my 5 month, female Corso for a walk 8:15 this morning with the Herm Sprenger. She went for her first pull immediately, without me even popping the leash she got the message ASAP!!!! Did about a 20-minute walk, she tried 2-3 pulls and learned immediately!!! The real test was when we got to my block.... she knows which way is home and usually tries to pull hard. Not once did she pull. I know it's different for every dog, but I didn't think she was going to learn so quick. CALMEST WALK EVER!!! From Philadelphia, PA, 5 month old blue female Cane Corso (Mecca). For real, don't think people assuming that actually had a second thought about it. Although I am very much team "only get a dog you can physically control", so I believe you should be able to, yanking them around seems incredibly and needlessly cruel in comparison to a prong collar. Very much one of those things you'd do for yourself and not the dog.

Glad you still do this because my dog is still pulling im using the prong collar I'm just not doing the pop, the corrective uturn right. I'm learning. My husky is very stubborn and acts like nothing hurts her. Her prong is too big but when I take a link out it's too small. Ergh. I like how you put it "I'm not mad at her" correcting your animal/child doesn't mean you're mad it means we want you to behave and obey.

Are you placing the collar over the fur, or parting the fur before placing on the collar, so the prongs make contact with the skin? If you're not doing the latter, this will explain the size discrepancy and her lack of response to it.

I board dogs full time and I can say with absolute certainty, corrective u-turns are truly a godsend. 100% of the dogs I walk are by my side, and these are dogs that pull their owners so god damn hard it's sometimes uncomfortable to watch. I use a slip lead on all dogs (positioned at the top of the neck), doesnt matter if theyre 5 pounds or 100+. The only exception are dogs that have any medical conditions (typically neck problems and usually are older, smaller dogs). A couple other things to mention: the most important thing to practice in my opinion is not leaving the house until the dog is calm. Sometimes it can take a few minutes, but don't get frustrated. This will set you upfor success, and right off the bat will make these corrective u-turns even more impactful. When a dog is overly excited, in some cases a corrective u-turn will mean absolutely nothing, and in turn will cause frustration on your end, thus making the walk unenjoyable. I constantly see people commenting on videos like this betwen various trainers claiming it doesn't work, and i would say anyone who claims that is simply inexperienced and unwilling to learn. A lot of this stuff comes down to practice, experience and confidence. When i first started boarding dogs and had no experience, i was the fool being dragged along the entire walk, and at times it was absolutely miserable. Youll eventually get to point where you can stick a leash on any dog and within minutes have them walking by your side, and that is a 100% guarantee. If not, youre simply not practicing the right techniques. The corrective u-turn is absolutely one of the most valuable techniques you can use.

As you mentioned, about 10 to 15 minutes of training they were able to follow my lead, and stop, I did trained bit more before I oversaw my 10 year old daughter walking with them, about 4 steeps behind I was there just in case something happened, but nothing bad happened, I'm from Mexico, thanks a lot.

Well done. The only thing we emphasize is that you really need a Herm Sprenger prong collar. All prong collars aren't created equally and we never recommend cheaper lower quality prong collars, as the prongs aren't typically rounded like a high quality Herm Sprenger.

This stuff works. I had a large kangal dog stronger than a horse that about pulled both my arms out of their sockets while still a puppy! I used a similar technique years ago and it worked like magic. And immediately. Dogs are smart and will get away with what they can until you correct them. A prong collar used correctly is a must for strong dogs! Like your simplicity and no-nonsense approach. Wish people wouldn't complicate things.

He may not attack for a year, 2 years, or the rest of his life, but that behavior is in him and has reared its ugly head about 5 or 6 times since I have owned him. I know that before I got him, he was owned by someone who believes in beating their dog to a pulp if it does not listen Jasper was only 3 months old when we got him, but any amount of abuse can carry on through the victims life (the man who did this is a scum bag piece of shit for doing it), so I suspect that is part of the problem. I have treat trained him, dominated him, and tried to give him a job to do so he can burn off some energy (He is really smart and picks things up very easily even though he is 10 years old). He has been fine for about 4 years until the other day when he latched onto my arm, and I had to essentially knock him out to get him to stop attacking me ( I know I will probably get some hate for this, but if I am being attacked by anything, I'm going to do whatever is necessary to stop the attack, you weren't there). He doesn't growl, bark, snarl, or broadcast in any way, he just attacks. I didn't have to go get stitches or anything, but it did leave some serious bruises. I am a very large man and can throw him away if I need to, but I am afraid that if he does this to someone who is not large enough to stop him, he could seriously injure them. I have no idea what sets him off as the last time it happened, I was making him sit for a treat, and the time before that, I was just sitting on the couch watching TV. I love this dog, and it is a member of the family, but I do not feel safe letting him around house guests or other dogs. I have tried to coax out the aggression so I can address it, but even when I go up and forcefully remove a treat from his mouth or come at him in a scary and aggressive way, he just sits down wagging his tail waiting for me to give the treat back even when I don't give it back or becomes submissive immediately (I know coming at him aggressive is essentially playing with fire and probably not good for him, my bad, but my options are to put him down or give him away, I'm not comfortable with either and was kind of desperate when I tried that). I don't want to put him down, I don't want to give him away, and I don't want to have a dog that is at risk of attacking myself or someone else. Like I have said, he just pops off at random and truly attacks whatever is setting him off at the time. Is there anything I can do to correct this or is it just one of those things? If you respond to this, I very much appreciate you taking the time to do so, you must get hundreds if not thousands of comments like this a day. 👍

I have a 7 month old 70lb Doberman named Rambo. I started leash training at 3 months old with him using this method on the flat collar. It dialed him in a bit but he needed that little touch to lock it in. At 4 months I started with the prong. After a good introduction to it we took our first walk. At a quarter mile in he was good to go. After that our walks are stress free and enjoyable. We do two 1.30 mile walks a day.

I love the videos! I watched one of your previous video about how to leash train a dog for walking and it worked like a charm. I'm a first time dog owner so I had no previous knowledge on how to talk my dog and shes a 105lb 3 1/2 Year old cane corso that my wife rescued. She pulled like the beast that she is but now I can walk her no problem, it took me about a half an hour and we're from southern California.

I have a 95lb Dogo argentino she just turned 1 yr old, and a 3 yr old 75lb pitbull, they both pulled like crazy. It wasn’t even enjoyable to go on walks anymore, even with a prong collar. I tried this method, no joke after 5 minutes the walked by my side, and stopped when I stopped, works great!!! Now I don’t look like a fool walking my dogs.

I have a sable 4 year old german shepherd. He has a massive problem with pulling. But i put on his prong collar, and work with him some. It totally does work. There are times i have to do it again just because he doesn’t like paying attention. But when i do, it works a ton. You are the reason i started working with my dog and your way of training has really helped, thank you!

Thats impressive! Our 3 year old amstaff dog whom we just had adopted 3 months ago have the same issue. She’s totally a handful. Walking with her is a big conundrum. She’s a big time puller and wonderer. I have been drag multiple times. Almost fell the back porch steps several times as she gets too excited to go out. She’s our first ever dog and we struggle to correct her bad behavior. This video is a great educational tool for me to correct that. I will buy a prong collar to execute this training. Thank you!
