Bought an SCT tuner last week. Updated it and installed the 87 tune. In sport mode, it repeatedly set off the check engine light and put the truck in limp mode. It was an over boost code. I installed a Brew City Boost tune and everything is great, no codes just power. Seems like SCT wants the boost a little too high in their tunes. Not sure if I'd feel safe running any of SCTs canned tunes.

I don't really see the point in using sport mode any more if you're gonna put a tune on it. Kinda defeats the purpose. Unless you get an aftermarket intercooler or CAI to support that kinda performance. I feel like there'd be no reason to run sport mode anymore except for a single pull at the drag strip or something.

Just bought 1 about a month or 2 ago, been running a 93 Oct tune for the same amount of time. Yea i feel a difference, the truck wanta to literally jump out of its skin now when you floor it, the transmission lunges you forward at the top of a shift thru 5th gear. The only thing i dont like is the truck is always trying to go balls to the wall now, amd every shift is a racing shift, meaning it tries to get up to 3,000 RPM in EVERY gear before shifting (truck no longer jumps gears to save time) as well as it will always try to get to 7th gear as quick as possible then calm down. The problem being when i should be in higher RPMs to pull the truck along, instead it shifts to the next gear and pulls an obnoxious amount of boost to get the truck going, instead of the much more efficient and better dropping a gear or 2 to get you up to speed. Ishould NOT be in 7th gear pushing 12 pounds of.boost while cruising up to 50 mph... that is just ridiculous. It should be more like 5th gear pulling 5 pounds of boost.. terrible gas mileage now even if you attempt.to drive like a grandma. Must get a Pedal Commander and keep it in Eco mode. Other then that, i do love this tune. It will push about 5 more Max psi in boost than the stock Ford tune (16 psi max is now 21-22 psi at max throttle) but it usually hovers around 20.

It does not! Once you load the tune to your truck, you can unplug the device and simply keep it in your glove box. -Zach

Not stupid. Yeah unplug after tune loaded. Plug it back in if you want to change tune again. Has to be lugged into the obd 2 port to download and upload through wifi. Keep it plugged in if you want to see real time gauges.

Manufacturer listed HP and TQ numbers are always at the flywheel and never at the wheel like our dyno measures. Power numbers at the wheel will always be lower because of drivetrain loss. -Zach

@@dogbonetc7623 no he meant 3.3l.. the base v6 work truck. tunes dont do anything on naturally aspirated motors your lookin at 5 actual horsepower at the most lol, all you can do is change transmission shift points and some fuel maps

@@ifixthings86 no they can tell the ecu was reset same thing happens when you unplug battery

@@Z2544-x8p when you pull power from the ecu it only clears KAM. Keep Alive Memory, which is just data the ecu learns. Things like power cycles since last reset will go to zero if you tune. If you bring it into the dealer with a blown engine or some sort of power train issue and that number is at or near 0, they can tell it's been tuned and flashed back and can void your warranty.

The on/off is under the setting of the car on your center console.

There's an option for this in the tune setup. I've only had one day using it with the tune but the car didn't turn off like it usually would with it being enabled.

If a new tune is installed on a truck, a dealership will most likely be able to trace it if the truck was returned back to stock. If the tune causes something to break, they may not fix it for you under warranty. -Zach

I bought the sct bdx tuner for my 3.5L EcoBoost and tried the 93 octanes preloaded tune it was horrible. followed this video step by step and right after it finished loading I got two codes and my truck would not start. my truck is stock by the way. I've only changed the wheels & tires. the codes were P060C & U0422. I tried it twice. I ended up putting the stock tune on and the codes went away I don't want to pay $400 for a tuner and I can't use the best tune on the tuner. @Americantrucks Please help

@@randyschmidt19 He is right , Adding a high performance tune on these is a considerable amount of power to a smaller motor already producing alot of power. If you tow often, or have a heavy foot it's only a matter of time before problems. I'm all for tuning , need to do mild tunes on a stock EB. That's my own view , people can add 100 plus custom tunes and added torque and take the gamble themselves.

The facts and data I am referring to are about the OP's comment. can someone show an example or data that will prove that Ecoboost engines have a head gasket issue? second thing was calling the turbos baby turbos. Define baby turbos and then we will discuss shaft speed air volume and things that actually matter.Next you posited that if you tow often or have a heavy foot its only a matter of time before problems. That also shows now data that adding a tune is going to blow a head gasket or damage the turbos. If you want to speak in relative vague terms, it is just a matter of time before everything has a problem. What I think should be the topic is how much head room is built into these engines. We already know that the Raptor has over 500 crank HP and has a full warranty. as far as custom tunes...….. well that is the point of tuning is to customize or actually optimize the settings for YOUR engine. Trust me those canned tunes are mild. every engine is different so putting your vehicle on a dyno with a qualified tuner and seeing the actual AFRs etc. and making changes to see what makes power and still be safe is the best option. as far as your question I own a 2018 3.5 ecoboost. I have the BDX tuner on it

@@randyschmidt19 I never once said they had head gasket issues . Although adding a significant amount of power over stock . Its very possible for it to happen . dont know what you define mild. There are canned tuned with 100 plus hp , and more TQ then that . Thats nit mild in my personal opinion, In fact there are custom canned tunes that are very aggressive. The only difference of dyno tunes is your exact specific truck being tuned. Which as far as power potential dyno is best. Yes tuning is increasing air fuel timing for optimal performance. No we can argue all day how safe it us. The turbos are smaller displacement on the 2.7 , But size is not really as important as how durable the turbos are , and material they are made out of, as well as the power curve boost being applied. Lol why is putting your stock truck on a dyno safer, Its not. If you have a heavy modified truck , yes I could maybe see that. Even then the dyno is just increasing power further. I'm not against tuning , I tune almost all my trucks except for my current 2.7 because it's pointless, when the truck is already quick for stock , and minimal turbo lag except from a deadstop. These people tuning EB for what ? They already put out alot of power , Its so they go 0-60 in 4 seconds lol. People dont tune forced induction trucks , Then drive like a grandma.

I just bought this tuner for my 2.7L 2016 Ford ecoboost. I purchased it from 5star tuning with custom tunes and it did not make any difference for my truck! Moreover, my MPG actually went down. Very disappointed.
