My first one, an ‘11 went 140k before I traded it in. It was still running very strong. My wife’s ‘11 Platinum went 60k before trading it in (she gets a new car every 2-3 years). Her second one, a ‘14 Plat went around 60k and then she went into a ‘17 Expedition with the 3.5, 48k on it. I’m currently driving a ‘18 XLT with the 3.5 and she just bought a Lincoln Nautilus with the 2.7. All the 3.5s ran like a top when traded in. For me the key was 5000 mile oil changes with a quality synthetic oil and Motorcraft filter, run top tier gas - we used 89 or 91-93. Motorcraft sparkplugs and air filter every 45-50k. Zero oil consumption on all of them. Don’t be scared to drive the daylights out of the thing, it’s good to keep them blown out. Don’t try to hyper-mile one, they love to be worked.

@@502Chevy Completely agree with good oil every 5K. I have 197K on my 2010 Nissan Pathfinder. Change the oil every 5500-6500 miles using Mobil 1. I haven't had to change the plugs, which has shocked me. This thing runs like a top and I definitely don't baby it. Thanks for the reply!

The reason is the 2.7L has smaller turbos than the 3.5L. A smaller turbo spools quicker than bigger one. The down side is they don't make the power a big turbo makes. When you take the Raptor and the Ram TRX off the table, the 2.7L F150 is the quickest truck sold in America to 60 MPH. The down side is by the end of the quarter mile its playing second fiddle to the 3.5L. Now when the Hurricane powered Ram hits the streets, this is a brand new ball game.

@@IndependenceIron not exactly. 7th gear is 1:1, so you have 3 overdrive gears. My SHO tuned with six gears will do 60 in the same time as the 3.5 truck. Of course I'm a bit lighter but not by much at 4400 pounds. 500+ lb-ft torque from 1500 rpm is pretty motivating no matter the gear 😉. The torque/hp curve is more telling than the max numbers especially when comparing the na to turbo engines.
@david-sv3kg
@david-sv3kg 5 жыл бұрын
A lot of it is the transmissions keeping the rpm in a tighter band allowing the factory and the tuners to optimize a really narrow region of performance... Older engines had much flatter hp/torque curves die to limited # of gears (which was one reason manuals used to be so much quicker...)

I'm planning on ordering a XLT supercab soon and I'm definitely going with the 2.7 with 3.73 gears. I've done a ton of research on the ecoboost engines and they are truly impressive, especially the 2.7. Most people don't know it but the 2.7 is statistically the most reliable engine sold in the F150. It has fewer warranty claims than all the others, likely due to the stout CGI cylinder block. That alone plus excellent fuel economy and ample capability, it's the perfect fit for my needs. I don't think I'd even bother tuning it. Great video!

At this point, I'm planning to order a Silverado RST with the I6 Duramax. I just found out that engine is being revised for 2023 and I'm trying to find out exactly what GM is changing so I can decide if I want to order the current engine now or wait for the revised version. @lil2.74
@lil2.74 2 жыл бұрын
There is no comparison if you supercharge a 5.0. Its larger displacement and two more cylinders. The ceiling is much higher with the Coyote but that requires tremendously more dollars spent. On a tight budget you can't beat the Ecoboost. And the 3.5 can make 552whp tuned on e50 and a couple moddest bolt ons. An E85 tuned 5.0 with headers, cold air intake and Boss manifold only gets you to about 475. And you haven't purchased a supercharger yet. But for sure Supercharged Coyote engines are absolutely nasty. And there also numerous videos of Coyote NA guys that have those things moving. This is a dollar for dollar comparison. Ecoboost come from the factory with a power adder and despite the smaller engine, tuning can achieve more with a power adder.

@flamingdragon86 Lol...so I guess what you are trying to say is that all of the brilliant minds that have gotten the na Coyote to 475whp just haven't figured it out yet? Everything I have said is dead on. I guess you have a 552whp 5.0 Coyote with nothing but an e50 tune, CAI and a catback exhaust. You ought to be advertising it, your secrets will make you rich. You can do anything you put your mind to and without spending money. Good luck. Again, if you buy a new 5.0 F150 and a new 3.5 Ecoboost F150 and a maximum of 1000.00 bucks in mods is all that is allowed, the Coyote has no chance. It has a higher ceiling with extra money because it is the same DOHC 4V technology and more cubic inches, it doesn't come with a power adder straight off the lot. And a 5.0 na Coyote can scream, with catless longtubes etc. Again $$$$$. This video is about 3 of the offerings available in an F150, with a tune and the 5.0 lost. The comment I replied to was someone stating that they would like to see them up against a Supercharged Coyote. Why? Thats not an equal comparison. Superchargers aren't free. That is a major additional cost. If money doesn't matter I'd like to see my tuned 2.7 Ecoboost F150 up against a Twin Turbo Coyote Promod. I think I can take it, I can achieve anything I put my mind to. Lol, thanks for straightening me out.

I had a 2019 F150 with a 3.5 turbo, 3.73 axle. Used it to tow a 4800 lbs(dry wt) Winnebago Micro Minnie, with gear was about 5500 lbs. Used a reputable weight distribution hitch. Plenty of power whenever needed, BUT engine temp ran up to the red line whenever pulling up a modest grade, without over accelerating (60 mph). Often the turbos would shut down until temps returned to the normal range. Dealership and another shop could find nothing wrong, just saying "turbos run hot". To me, it felt like not if there was going to be a major overheating problem, but matter of when. Moved to a 2021 F250 with a 7.3 gas (non-turbo), with great luck. 25,000 miles so far towing a larger trailer (5800 lbs Winn. 2529RG with a lot of cargo in the truck bed, tons of power AND the temp gage has never even wiggled, even when towing in Montana hills this summer in sustained 100+ degree weather. Loved my F150, not sure the turbos are the best option when a lot of long distance towing is in the picture.

@@Treyk901 Actually, it's pretty big gains even stock. You have to run several tanks of quality 93 through it before the computer will give you the advantages. Ford uses a Learned Octane Reading (LOR), at least on the Ecoboost. It really advances timing when your LOR is high. It could be tricked by adding a little E85 to the tank of premium, since E85 is usually well over 100 Octane.

I got to choose between an F-150 truck or, at that time, a Focus car. DUH, wuddya think I chose?? There was really only ONE choice!! Also, at that time, I really didn't know Ford was putting 2.7 liter V-6's in their trucks. When I was out of sight from the dealership I opened that bad boy up and, HOLY SH_T, I said to myself "This V-8 is freaking awesome!" When I got home I opened the hood just to check it out and when I saw it labeled as a 2.7L V-6 my jaw dropped!! "What the F.......???!! Are you kidding me???? This is a 2.7L V-6 engine???? Ain't no way!!" I was totally floored by how powerful it was. I still wouldn't own one simply because 1) I drive a 2013 Expedition (5.4L), and 2) I pull a 22' boat (roughly 4-5,000 lbs w/ trailer). If I drove a pickup truck as a daily commuter and maybe some light duty hauling, I would definitely put the 2.7L on my list. The one drawback I might have would be the resale value.

The 2.7 is impressive. I'm not a V8 freak so much as I do have an old camaro to drive to get my fill of the sound, but I like the ford 2.7 6 cylinder. I can deal with a 6 cylinder sound on a full size truck but I cannot deal with the 4 cylinder sound on a gm truck. i'm in my 40s though. 4 cylinder is for cars and small trucks. full size trucks have always had 6 cylinders, even before they had 8 cylinders. but I cannot do a 4 cylinder full size.

I'm glad I went with the 5.0 liter V8 Coyote motor in my 2016 F150 Crew cab instead of the turbo V6 or the 4 cylinder. I bought this truck new and plan to own it a long time, probably 20+ years, I think the 5.0 liter Coyote V8 is a lot more likely to last that long than the 6 or the 4 cylinder version's. I prefer to buy new vehicles and baby the hell out of them. I don't plan on drag racing my truck, pulling a trailer or hauling a load is more in line with what I have a truck for. The truck is 3 years old now and has 17,000 miles on it and has always been regularly maintained and garaged. My wife's 03 Cobra is 16 years old now and has 41,000 miles on it. I don't commute so that saves a lot of miles on my vehicle's as well as time and frustration dealing with traffic. I've always thought the 2+ hour commute back and forth to the burbs 5 days a week is nuts and not worth it.

I hate fords I’m a die hard GM guy the only thing that ford made that was any good was a 97 F250 with the ZF5 trans. Chevrolet’s LS engines flow the best out of any small block on the market. Yeah they’re old school OHV push rod engines but you don’t have 4 cams and multiple timing chains that you have to worries about breaking. The best is you don’t sound like a high revving farting Diesel engine I’m talking about the coyote motor. LS engines sound better to because they’re 2 valve engines and even though they’re 2 valve engine they flow better than the 4 valve coyotes. There is a reason why Chevrolet’s are the longest lasting most dependable trucks on the road.

4wd is so nice for traction !!! if my 68 Charger and my hellcat would be 4wd I could get 3 seconds off 0-60 and 1/4 mile without any tune/mods !! Turbo engines were always quick,back in the late 80's I had a 1985 2.2 Turbo 1 (not the Turbo II with more power from the factory) so my 146 factory rated 2.2 Turbo Dodge Daytona Turbo with a Mopar computer and I messed with the turbo/more boost etc and I ran high 12's with that car in the 1/4 mile...Even with stock turbo and just a Mopar ecu I ate every 5.0 5 speed Mustang around(automatic 5.0 Mustangs used a different cam and heads and lost 20 hp as the engine was different than the 5 speed engine,even Ford guys dont know this !)....These cars stock had turbo lag under 15 mph you had no turbo,then it kicked in and went ! You had to brake torque it to get low 15's froma bone stock 2.2 turbo ,otherwise you ran high 15's..these were tested running 15.9's to low 16's just off idle..brake torque low 15's,ecu ran low 14's raise the turbo boost you got 12's..We even ran a low compression 1978 400 big block we put a stock turbo on it and we never track tested it but it would lay down serious rubber,and it was a low compression,non performance 2 barrel engine from a wrecked,rolled over,78 Gran Fury..The engine went into a 74 Satellite (Road Runner clone) ..The car felt like a low 14 second ride with the 2 barrel and under 8.0 compression lol..We built a 451 stroker and ran low 11's non turbo but we had fun back in the early 90's !

The 5.0 comes with a 3.15 ratio, the 2.7 a 3.55. Unless your opt for the 3.55 on the 5.0, this ain't a fair test. Ford offers a 3.73 on either but who knows how these were equipped for this test.
