In todays video we take a look at an analog horror series about a National Park in America. But this isn't your normal National Park... Woodlands National Park contains many anomalous creatures, plants and entities. All of these things are a huge threat to parkgoers but the park is somehow still open. What's the true intention behind the owners of the park? Where did all these creatures come from? And is there a way to stop all the deaths of the parkgoers?

I have a theory about the park rangers: They are normal park rangers who weren't told about the true nature of the park and now can't quit working there because the higher ups at the park are essentially holding them hostage so the secrets of the park don't get out. In the memorial video, they seem tired and one of them even says: "I'm depressed and exhausted" They clearly want to quit but they can't, as if someone is forcing them to stay. They also beg the dead camera man's wife to take the money and run, as if they're urging her to do what they can't while she still has a chance...

Well, the whole immortal camera men is only kept to third-person films/series, where the cameraman isn't an actual character in the movie, but a deity above the mortal realm. I remember hearing that if you encounter a wendigo, according to legend, you just ignore it. aggressively ignore it. Like they will come up around you, and even sit at the campfire with you, but your life depends on you trying to avoid eye-contact (with the empty eye sockets), and NEVER talk to it, even and especially if it talks to you. Like you should never even shout at it to go away, it will just leave on its own if you keep acting like it isn't there. You also shouldn't take anything it offers or offer it anything.

My theory on it, from remembering what I heard is that they were humans who became like animals, but they lost touch with their humanity and became empty with their hunger for power. I know there are some cultures who have stories of humans who choose to become beast-like in order to gain power over another, just as there are beast who act like humans to gain trust and cooperation. This is due to the cultural view that everything, from the jaguars to the humans to the spirits and the forest itself, all have selfhood and will, and can be civil, but when one act savage and beast-like they can gain control by diminishing your selfhood and elevate their own. Therefore by ignoring the attempts of the wendigo to diminish your selfhood, by causing you to fear them or petty them, you remind them of that civil humanity they have discarded, and refuse to feed into their exertion of will, their manipulation of power which they craved so much it made them hollow inside. And so they leave, as they know who there is the "self" and who is the "it", and therefore who has lost the power the wendigo craves.

@dcornect53
@dcornect53 6 ай бұрын
@@Slippery-bag66 idk. I did a paper on the anthropologist who made the whole ecology of selves concept with cultural beliefs of werejaguars (known as Runa-Puma) because that's just how anthropology degrees work (It was from "How Forests Think" by Eduardo Kohn). Even though that research was from the Upper Amazon, and the wendigo are more a north USA-South Canada belief, considering there was precolonial trade routes that went from the Upper Amazon half way up into Canada, it isn't too wild an assumption that the same ecology of selves and man becoming beast/ beast becoming man cultural concepts/ logic/ beliefs coukd have been spread that far, especially when shamans even closer to middle Canada have/ had similar beliefs that are/ were used in practices. For example Skinwalkers, which more historically had use the same human-becoming-beast practice (but controlled, and used for a justified reason, by putting on the skin of an animal) in the same way that a SWAT person wears gear to help them elevate their power over another, making them more of a self than the one getting swatted (seen more as a target, an "it", than a person, a "self"). So it was just the typing it up after applying that logic to the story of the wendigo that took actual time. As for this explanation, it did take me longer because I had to look up how far up the skinwalker belief is on a map. I am not too knowledgeable of the layout of the USA.

I’m a folklorist, and I grew up very close to one of the largest reservations in the US. I’ve already said this many times before: _the wendigo is not beastly._ I don’t know where the whole animal-skull-head imagery came from, but it’s a load of malarkey. It has always, _always_ been described to me as a pale, extremely emaciated human. Nothing more, nothing less. The wendigo itself isn’t even a physical entity - it’s a spirit of unquenchable hunger that possesses a human (traditionally those who resort to cannibalism in times of famine). I mean, why would a spirit that craves _human flesh_ want to wear a deer skull as a hat?
@fairyfoxey9438

It was just something hollywood conned because it was "scarier"...not even trying to be accurate (typical hollywood). Sadly, most who didn't know any better thought that's what Wendigo's look like, and it spread fast to the point most believe it; only those experienced in the tales know what it really looks like and acts like, or those who've taken the time to actually research them.
@mattuwu9978
@mattuwu9978 5 ай бұрын
@@fairyfoxey9438 the most accurate depiction I’ve seen in media (so far) is the Wendigo from _Until Dawn_ because - surprise, surprise - the developers actually made the effort to consulted Native American folklorists. Personally, I think it’s a lot scarier than whatever that deer head thing is. It’s not a beast; it’s a human, just like you and I, who succumbed to the most primal manifestation of greed. The Wendigo embodies and reflects human selfishness, the ceaseless desire for _more_ regardless of who is hurt in the process. Indigenous folklore emphasizes reciprocity/natural balance. The entire point of Wendigo Sickness is a lesson to never take more than what you need. The mining crew in _Until Dawn_ not only became possessed as a consequence of starvation, but they also act as an allegory for the greed inherent to mining. Taking from the Earth and providing nothing in return begets punishment.

I think the version with the deer skull is actually scarier, and seems more mysterious. Personally, when there are multiple interpretations of a cryptid, I headcannon it so they are different entities/creatures that are misidentified.
@mattuwu9978
@mattuwu9978 Ай бұрын
@@Gun_Flint it may be more mysterious and fit the classical aesthetic of a western cryptid, but I still view it as a disrespectful interpretation. Stripping the Wendigo of its humanistic aspects also strips away the _meaning_ of it as a manifestation of greed and selfishness; an antithetical to the cultural and religious beliefs of reciprocity/balance. The very fulcrum of indigenous folklore and creatures are the lessons embedded within - they wouldn’t exist otherwise.

In video 4, you can tell that camera-man is in pure, utter distress and/or having a panic attack. If you have some amount of strain left in that type of situation, you might be able to hold your breath or not make sound, to try and save yourself. But that camera man sounded like he physically could not. Extremely well done.

I gotta say i LOVE how they all acted, i hope to see more of these because it feels very real idk, even with the tactical team and their gun handling, the way they moved etc was still believable, but especially its one of the first times i actually felt the fear of an ongoing life or death situations, the only moments where something felt out of place were the "Ooo im tryna hide here but ill keep my flashlight on". And apart from the acting i love the ranger characters, they give me this vibe of being very good hearted people who are being put into this situation and are doing the best they can, especially when they/one of them helped Nancy stay safe and away from these whole ordeal for the sake of the children the best and only way they could (With their power). (Edit: what i meant with "the first time i felt the fear of an ongoing situation" i mean in any other analog horror i watched, i think i mentioned this because its always cut to static but this time we get to see the danger)

I agree with you on most of the stuff except the "tactical team" I can understand the super cringey communication and tactics but... I mean they could've gottem some cheap airsoft gear and at least tried to not make that much noise. Not the slightest amount of effort to look semi-professional. The weird russian accent that the "expert tracker" had was unnecessary. They look more like my uncle hunting deer or teens playing airsoft than anything else.

The video's are for newer park rangers to know what to do. Also, all of these videos are on record 100 years after the first cave critter sightings. Meaning this park has been under wraps for awhile. Also they most likely only stay because they're in too deep and being a ranger is safer because most of the creatures appear to be non-hostile except Wendigo. (Walker defended itself or was guarding it's territory and cave critters live in seclusion.) These beings are basically just wild animals but much more deadly.

At first, I was really glad that they were covering the indigenous origins of the wendigo! Then, I saw the picture of the creature. In actual lore, wendigos are similar in appearance to that of a skinwalker, and I do have my own theories, but that's not the point. They are malicious fae with the ability to induce cannibalistic tendancies towards the people near them. I think that maybe, they might feast just as much on fear as they do flesh, for their hunger is neverending, but eh. They're skinny, pale, fur-less, and definitely trigger the uncanny valley. Glad they got something right, though!!

@blu7384
@blu7384 7 ай бұрын
Wendigo aren’t fae lol. Fae is from European lore. The Wendigo in the common lore is a human who committed “an act of selfishness”(aka cannibalism or some other form of greedy action) & are cursed to forever hunger, eventually morphing into the monster Wendi’s are known to be. Sometimes Wendigo are described as being little more than evil mountain spirits that corrupt people into committing such heinous acts of avarice. As for the deer skull wendigo/ the movie wendigo, I believe that the deer skull wendigo could be plausible as maybe a wendi could’ve killed and eviscerated a deer, not only for its flesh but to use its skull for whatever reason. Whether it be for camouflage or intimidation or protection is unknowable but I think if they have a basic level of intelligence they could know to equip things in their vicinity, especially if mimicry is one of their skills.

I had a very strange experience over 20 yrs ago in a subburb in New Westminster, BC, Canada. I was having trouble sleeping one night. It was August, so very warm weather, I decided to go for a walk. It was 3:30am. Normally, I would not do this in the middle of the night and haven't since, but figured, some exercise might help. The area I walked through had a lot of old character homes. The moon was quite full that night. I was enjoying the quiet neighbourhood as well as the variety of architecture that surrounded me. I was walking on the left side of the street. As I was nearing this one particular home, it stood out. It was a tiny yellow house, in the middle of a huge lot. The other homes in the area where double its size. There was also a steel fence around the property, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw movement. I remember feeling very nervous. I saw an old lady in a pale blue night dress, or what I thought was a lady, hopping very creepily across her lawn. Her skin was as white as a corpse. What made me inwardly terrified where her legs. The did not look human at all. They look bent simular to those of a deer. So many things went through my mind in those seconds of walking by that yellow house. My intuition told me, don't panic, dont make eye contact, and just pretend your a ghost gliding by through the night. It stopped moving right after, and watched me. I acted as though it wasn't there at all and I was on my own journey. I finally turned up left onto the next street, looked behind me and ran home. Luckily I was only 10 minutes away. I never walked down that street ever again. I cannot explain what I saw that night, but it was not fully human.
