Such a similar situation to me for when I began using the ecollar! About 6 years ago we adopted my cattle dog mix onyx. He was about 1 and had some basic obedience. We thought all was great and fine until my kiddo left the front door open. Onyx took off outside having a grand old time while I was literally having a heart attack. We lived down the road from a 6 lane highway and it took almost an hour of coaxing him with treats and balls to catch him. He would play little games where he would let me get super close then as soon as I went in to grab him he bolted! Terrible recall!! Then, we were grooming him at wag n wash (we lived in Colorado Springs) where they have a double set of automatic doors 😳... well somehow his leash came unhooked and he literally went straight for the doors!! He got out and we, again, chased him in an insanely busy parking lot next to a super busy road and it took me and 5 other bystanders a good hour to catch him. I was crying and exhausted by the end of it and I promised myself I would never put either of us through that again. We got educated and bought an e collar and he is 100% responsive to my recall now thank god. With AND without the collar on. I am a huge advocate and I think unless people have been through something like this, they will never understand what a great tool this really is.

That bungee is exactly what I need. Most days I can put an ecollar on my dog, wiggle it, and it has good contact. Other days I’m constantly taking it off, adjusting, wiggling it on his neck and it just doesn’t make contact, until it’s like super tight and I don’t think it’s comfortable for him. So maybe having that bungee will be so much better for him. Thanks for sharing your story! Glad you and all the dogs you were with were able to get out of that situation alive! 😲

Hi Tom, I am trying to work with my Labrador using an e-collar but I still have a hard time with the fitment. I understand that it needs to be snug but my question is, how do I known when is tight enough? Reason I ask is because when I put it on it feels tight, but as he moves the collar actually slides from the side of the neck (as you show on the video) to the bottom (to where the larynx is). Is there any way for me to know when I have it tight enough that it won't lose contact or slide but is not making him feel uncomfortable from being too tight? PS: Right now I am using a buckle strap that came with the e-collar but I ordered the bungee to make it easier for him.

Not over weight just large male for his breed. I wanted this one to use on larger dog's down the road also. Dogtra has a smaller one with plastic contacts but don't think work well with medium to large dog's!!

He also is a Dog Trainer I purchased another e-collar but lost the charger, the different levels of the pin attachments and Remote. But I found the collar with the unit. I believe it was also by Tritronics. If I cant get the accesories for it. I will look into the Dogtra. Another effective tool that assists getting the proper attention and results. I remember after the dog learns what we teach them with the unit. I then pretty much put it away and used it for "Re-Current Training". Again, I need that Re-current training on How to Properly Use the E-Collar.

I need a bungy collar . Here they are around £35. I find longer contacts not worth the hassle. My very thick coated collie has standard contacts ,I just put more effort in putting it on. I part the fur in straight line ,place the contacts and do it up.I then have to pull the fur through. Really great video Tom. My Collie had severe Pica and chasing industrial mowers etc. That is when I collar conditioned her. Shame the politics is ruining our tool box. Before I watched your videos I was against e collars as I thought they were “shock” collars. Since watching your videos I have totally changed my mindset on how I now view them as a training aid and I have purchased one and I’m learning how to use it throw your videos and I am saving to purchase your model of Dogtra. I’m just hoping that the e collar ban in UK doesn’t go into affect and instead the group of e collar uses over here can hopefully convince the government to put restrictions into place and make training with qualified e collar trainers mandatory. I also think that cheap collars from places like Amazon should be banned instead of all collars including Dogtra ones. Tom have you thought about publishing a book on how to use a e collar to train a dog and how to pick the right sort of e collar.

The bungee e collar strap doesn’t seem too reliable for proper timed correction, on the fly or after a recall etc. seems like it would need tightened after each send or recall, ball play back to obedience. Also, the leash with the metal ring on the end is easily dangerous upon correcting a dog if not held onto constantly. I’ve seen it. But I like your amazon list! Thanks for sharing. Dogtra is agreeably the best brand.

The way you're saying this makes it sound like these remote collars are the only way to have a perfectly off-leash trained dog, and that is simply not true... I might even say it's a bit lazy... The situation with the train happened because you had your dog off-leash before you had trained him properly to obey off-leash, a mistake that many people make, trusting their dog off leash too soon or without sufficient training... Anyway, I'm not saying these e-collars should never ever be used with any dog ever, but I think they should only be used when absolutely necessary, and they are NOT necessary for having a perfectly well-trained dog.

He always came back but i would have to stand there and wait for him to realize i wasnt following him. I have it on him but i dont really need to use it now but its there to take control when necessary. I dont think its lazy i think its being responsible and its a faster way to teach the dog to come when called and less of a headache.
@tomdavisofficial4 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying it's the only way, I am saying It's the only way to actually be able to touch your dog completely off-leash. To say they should only be used when absolutely necessary tells me how much you don't know about the collar. It's just a wireless remote instead of a flat leash...

@@kiraelric2685 100%, it's so easy to assume things when you have never educated yourself nor used the equipment.
