This song was originally about winter and snow, where the word Christmas instead was snow (More snow). The song was rewritten and remaked to be a Christmas song. You can hear a whole verse from the original song. What you hear in the background at 4.28-4.48 is parts of the in Sweden traditional Disney Christmas show at the swedish tv. Even that today kids dont't care, that was a big deal for us growing up at the 60's, 70's and 80's. The song has a lot of referenses in old swedish Christmas traditions, food, songs, dance e.t.c.

@David Wennberg millenial as in 30 to 40 years old? So family refers to your children? A lot of people wrongfully think of millenials as people born around 2000 instead of people being children that remember the turning of the millenium so I was genuinly curious.

Radio show Eldorado was going to interview this classic electro-pop band, and asked if they could perhaps compose a ditty for the occasion. They got a bit more than they expected. And Adolphson-Falk banged this out in a week.

Thank you for your reaction. I really hope a swede can try to explain the song for you. Like when they say Mer Arne Weise i rutan. Means like more Arne Weise who was like a tv show host and like a father on tv for Christmas. And raskare räv på isen. Means like a even faster fox on ice. But actually refers to another song that children sings, "räven raskar över isen, räven raskar över isen...." And so on. There is like every swedish ingredients for Christmas packed in that song so everybody can refers to it.

To be honest, I think no one really knows why we watch Kalle Anka at Christmas time. It's one of the great Swedish mysteries. They're not even Christmas cartoons.

I think it was back when the TV and color TV just had arrived. Not many channels would play cartoons, and let alone Disney. So SVT would play Disney on Christmas eve and every kid would meet up at someone's house that owned a TV. At least that is what my dad told me. When they had done it enough times I guess it became a tradition that just stuck.
@oldoak2804

@@newperspective5918 "Not many channels...". At that time there was only SVT, I don't if even SVT2 had started, so there was just one channel. From what I've been told, that was one of the few times there were Disney cartoons on TV, so it was a special occasion for the children. When that generation grew up, it stuck as a tradition. We'll see what happens, but I expect it to eventually fall out of favor, since there has been a few generations now with easy access to cartoons. Now it is more the adults than the children who watch Kalle Anka

I think the secret mystery behind the success of one hour of Donald Duck at Christmas Eve at three o'clock is that "gluing" the kids to the TV-kit gives daddy or whoever in the family who's got the task of being Santa Claus a chance to go out "to buy the daily newspaper or a pack of cigarettes" (in order to have a chance to keep the secret of who is Santa really? intact). Lots of Santas circulating in the streets and garages of Sweden about that time at christmas eve I can tell You. It also puts the family christmas dinner "in sync". the regularity in when it's being broadcasted (at three P.M. every christmas) makes it easy to build a lot of traditions around. And of course for a long time it was a perfect commercial chance for the Disney company to market their new annual movie products.

, Um _ackshually,_ at least two of the cartoons are Christmas cartoons. Santa's workshop and the Chip'n Dale Christmas one.

They sing “ge mig en svårknäckt nöt” which as also ambiguous as it could mean a physical nut which is hard to crack, but also a riddle hard to solve (as the ones on a christmas gift). Them being architects by profession makes this even more amazing 😎 as this is a “side gig”. My all time favourite Swedish group, every song more like poetry than a song really, the lyrics are great and well thought through.

As a swede, I completely agree. Us watching the same cartoons every single christmas is freaking mental. Somehow I do it anyway. I suppose it's hard to break from certain traditions.

Since you do not have Swedish as your first language, it can be difficult with irony. One can interpret the song as ironic, someone who has had enough of Christmas and Christmas shopping.

The reason why we watch donald duck at Christmas is becasue we don´t suppose to. Its a long and a bit complicated story. When the left wing of the socialist party start infiltrated Swedish state TV back in the 50s and 60s wanted to push Sweden to more of a Soviet style system they wanted more censorship at TV. One of the first thing the pushed was to ban american culture, movies, songs and so on. They had to back it of a bit, and eventually settled for banning US cartoons (that at this point was huge, and much larger than say sitcom children program). To not make it a literal ban they left one cartoon ONCE a year in, and they left it in on the exact time of day when santa would come, with the logic that they can claim that its not baned, and nobody would watch it anyway, making it effectively banned. The intention was to remove it eventually with the motivation that nobody watched it anyway. This backfired quite badly and it soon, wasn´t only poorly watched, but on of the most wached hours of the year regardless of programming The 60 come and went, and well into the 70s Disney was like "you can´t just keep showing this, we still have the license". So disney start demanding of SVT to not only show the regular old program but also show one segment of 5 minutes with the Disney movie of the year. This was a sneeky way of Disney to force commercial into SVT that was totaly banned and not even legal. Well. sort of. SVT was like "who cares, we just pull the segment" And so they did... well. they thought they did. 100 000 letters later ... simply breaking there mail service, they was literally forced to reinstate it, to keep the company working. Next year, they pulled it again, same story. They did this every year for a few years before finally giving up (i think it was 81 or 82, not sure). The ban was also not with out total internal pushback. Around this time there was a snekey way around it by showing Tom and jeary as a segment during a sports program. Rapidly making it the most popular program with children... Strange how children are so interesting in sports. Anyway, the ban was finally lifted in 1990 and the fight was lossed. Both satellite TV and cable TV was already common place by this point. Anyway, there is a bit more to this story The Government of East Germany (communist part) fell in 1989. The last thing they did prior of just vanishing was shred all there documents. The west German government spend the next 5 years reconstitution the documents. And well eventually some financial document com forward showing that East Germany had transferred a quite substantial amount of money to private account of employees of SVT. Very shortly there after The then Swedish government send a delegation to the now German government banning them on sharing information about Swedish citizen.
