På den tiden så hade vi bara två TV-kanaler, TV1 och TV2. Och mellan varje program så brukade det vara en person, oftast en man, som fyllde ut tiden och presenterade nästa program. TV2 hade då några attraktiva kvinnor, som bröt mansdominansen och blev en riksomfattande snackis. Jag var dock lite för ung för att uppskatta detta :)

I agree that you need to adjust the volume when talking Jonathan. It's so low you have to increase the volume making the eardrums bleed with the music volume getting to high. Besides that another incisive reaction. The reggae influence is big in this song though.

This was their breakthrough song in 1979, and the thing is that Per Gessle, the singer of the group (who also writes all of their songs) got so convinced that this is the formula to go so he wrote a whole albums worth of material of this kind in time for the planned second album, but those were all rejected by their producer- Perhaps the best thing to happen, so he had to develop his song writing a little.

The real reason people got trampled to death at "Masten" was because of the band. Not because it was cold. Gyllene Tider was the big thing in Sweden back then and people rushed to the stage. I know because my dad worked at the hostpital where these people were taken. And he told me about it. And two people I work with was there and told me the same thing. So it's a no brainer, it was because the band was in such hype at the time

In Italian it's called "gioco di parole", in English a pun? So to me this entire song has a double meaning. "Sätta på flickorna på TV2" also literally means fu..ing them. I don't know how familiar you are with swedish slang, but the expression "sätta på ngn", translated verbatim "Turn on sb" actually means "bang sb", but at the time this was written, that expression didn't exist, but almost everybody who hears the song today think that it does mean that. And btw, he's not talking about masturbation, he's talking about the girls of tv2 turning him on as he turns them on - although, that particular phrasing only works in english.
