Check out my reaction to the Gyllene Tider song "Sommartider". I'll be doing more Swedish classics.

"Sommartider" is a song you play really loud in the car when you go on vacation in Sweden, and all of the family sings along. It doesn´t matter if you like it or not, it's just one of those songs you sing along to, the "Sommartider hej hej" part. Same thing with Thomas Ledin "Sommaren är kort", Ted Gärdestad "Sol, vind och vatten ", and psalms like "Den blomstertid nu kommer", "En vänlig grönskas rika dräkt" and "Nu grönskar det". It just belong in the summer, it´s just tradition. The singer of Gyllene Tider, Per Gessle, was also the singer of the band Roxette, which made an international career with songs like The Look, Listen to Your Heart, It Must Have Been Love och Joyride.

When it pops up in a shuffle playlist - good mood comes instantly and I start to sing along. It is especially damn good when driving a car - you're so right.

When my gang of bro's went to music festivals during the summer break from school we also blasted Mitt Sommarlov by Anita Hegerland so high that the car vibrated. =D

@@Merecir so sweet, I'm old enough to have heard it for really the first time. It was a cute performance and of course a catchy melody. I'm sorry to tell you that you're in the wrong forum. This "american" doesn't know about Roxette, ABBA or Blue Suede "hooked on a feeling" that hit on Billboard 100s before ABBA. He listened to Monica Z. "Sakta vi gå genom sta'n" as a Swedish classic??? And he didn't know that it was an American hit. I know that song and I'm Swedish. He doesn't know anything about music, not American, European, English or Swedish and he's tone deaf. He can go on with this shit but I really want him to stop call it "Svenska klassiker", it's disrespectful and rude to nearly all swedes. I've suggested he should listen to Bellman and Taube, Jussi Björling, Blue suede, ABBA, Roxette (he listened to them one time and said he didn't recognise the song, HELP, all my American friends living in the US know of them and my friends isn't even working with music) He's obsessed with Svensktoppen for some reason. He doesn't know a thing about music and the people following him are very very left wing. Maybe he wants it that way. He's a stand up comedian. Maybe he tries to get famous this way. But there's usually no "Swedish Classics" and he doesn't know anything about music so really... just call it something else. American listening to Svensktoppen or something. But please no more of what his fans wants him to react to and he has gathered some fans but he doesn't realise that they are very far out on the very very left wing. If you want him to react to a real Swedish Classic you haven't got a chance. He will chose Mikael Wiehe instead or Siv Malmkvist (that also just sang covers translated into swedish). He doesn't know who Robin, Tove Lo, Alexander Kronlund, Anders Bagge, Swedish house maffia, Denniz Pop or Max Martin is. He doesn't know Zara Larsson. But the worst thing is that he doesn't know about Bellman, Taube, Hootenanny Singers, Agneta Fältskog, Peter Jöback eller Tommy Körberg is. He simply doesn't know anything about Swedish Music and I'm deeply offended. I wish there was somewhere I could report him for making "Svenska Klassiker" to a joke, bad taste and disgrace. He's a fake just wanting to be famous.

"Gyllene tider" was formed in the 1970's and "retired" in the 1980's, but have made a number of come-backs and during the last one they sold more albums and concert-tickets than they did in their "real" active days in the -70's

First reaction to a real classic I've seen.. Most americans react to some swedish "gangsta" hiphop that I've never even heard. This to me is swedish summer, 15-18 years old, out in the summer night partying, drinking moonshine or a cocktail of spirits from the parents liquor cabinet. Can I suggest something old from Magnus Uggla, like Skandal bjotis, Centrumhets, Varning på stan, Jag vill inte gå hit, Vittring or Asfaltsbarn.

Per Gessle had the band Gyllene tider, he has never been the best singer but he's one of Sweden biggest hit-makers. He liked Marie, that already had a huge career, she was a troubadour and sing and songwriter. Very successful. They formed the duo/band Roxette and the rest is history. He has a net worth of $150 millions but aftercMarie died he went on composing, producing and now he has gathered his old band back. That's a big artist, big artists want to create. Per could have sat down and taken it easy.

I think albums reminiscent of summer are just as important as Christmas albums. Suppose you heard Sommarnatt with Snowstorm. It's a song that still means summer, sun and free time.

Snowstorm - Sommarnatt (Rockig Cruising-låt) Owe Törnqvist - Rumba i engelska parken (lite mer fånig, äldre låt, namnet säger allt) Sven Ingvars - Torparrock (Boogie Woogie på Värmländska) Kalle Baah - Bulleribock (Reggae på svenska) Monica Zetterlund - Sakta vi gå genom stan (Stockholms-version av Nat King Coles Walking my baby back home) Hoola Bandoola Band - Vem kan man lita på? (Svensk hippie-rock, tänk allman brothers) Petter - Mikrofonkåt (Hip-hop på svenska sent 90-tal) Pugh Rogerfeldt - Stockholm (Funk? Disco? Rock? Jag vet inte. Men bra är den!) Hoppsan Kerstin, listan blev lite längre än vad jag tänkte mig. Hoppas du hittar några guldkorn i den!
