Being a swede it is very obvious that the text is self ironic. He is not making fun of hiphop as a genre, but at some people calling themselves hiphopper.

@vakistania3 жыл бұрын
As people have said, it isn't making fun of hiphop because Rusiak definitely is into hiphop, it is making fun of the late 90s/early millenium swedish hiphop culture. Back then, hiphop fashion was everywhere, and a lot of people acted like they were hiphop while listening to rap metal or skate punk (the suburb teen kind with rap element). The song is making fun of people feeling that they are hiphop just because they bought a hoodie. His other songs also have the same rock elements to the beat, but his style of singing is a lot more in tune with 90s rap, so he definitely knew that what he is doing in this song isnt considered hiphop in that sense, its more of a commentary and a time capsule that will be hard to understand. Maybe after you listen to some more swedish 90s rap and maybe stuff like Clawfinger you'll see traces of it.
@EllakGr3 жыл бұрын
I agree that Clawfinger is a good place to start when it comes to swedish rap metal. Some of their lyrics hasn’t aged too well imho , but I recommend ’Two Sides’ a starting point. Nice groove and thoughtful lyrics.

The reason why this one is so poppy is that this is like a cross-over collab to promote each other. This track is more of a Teddybears Sthlm song (they are the originators of "Punkrocker", not Ceasar's Palace), and then Tomas featured on the rap driven track "Rock n Roll Highschool" on Teddybears' album with same title. The rest of Thomas Rusiak's album is rap.

The Sounds - Living in America Is a tip on a song. It is an American critical song. A little fun fact is also that The sounds is one of Dave Grohl's favorite bands, and that Rammstein were inspired from this song and borrowed the chorus to their hit song America.

Caesar's Palace did not make the original. Swedish experimental band Teddybears Sthlm made the original same year as "Hiphopper", which they also feature in (they are in the music vid) and co-produced. Caesar's Palace also dropped their cover that year. 2006 Teddybears Sthlm re-recorded "Punkrocker" with punk icon Iggy Pop on vocals and in music vid, which became a minor hit the following year.
@herrglad97263 жыл бұрын
But some of the members of Caesars Palace were also in Teddybears. And Rusiak was producing Teddybears (or if it was the other way around?) Anyway, best version is "Punksvin" by Snutjävel.

@sirseigan3 жыл бұрын

I would say that you could listen to almost any of the other tracks from the album Magic Villa to see the real rapper Thomas Rusiak. Hiphopper was the biggest hit, but probably one of his worst songs for us young hiphop heads who loved him as the central figure he was in the swedish hip hop scene early 2000s, and a swedish rapper who offered something that felt more "osvenskt" than Petter, Ken Ring, Blues and the other big swedish rappers of that time. My favourites from that album is probably Breakout, Magic Villa and Whole Lot of Things but also Suckers and Suckers pt. 2 were awesome too, but none of them really considered swedish classics since they didn't reach the main stream media in the same way, so might not be a fit for this channel.
@frurichardsson92393 жыл бұрын
Nej, nej, nej!

Ok I haven't fact checked so please do correct me if I'm wrong but from how I remember it this song came out when every other kid at my school (högstadiet) called themselves a hiphopper, all it took was pretty much baggy jeans so it kind of blended with the skaters :D also these were 99,9% white kids who probably had no clue about the origins of the trends. Teddybears' song Punkrocker was about prejudice about punk kids I think so what I figured is they did this colab with Rusiak about the new thing everyone was buying in to. I might be way off though. On the subject, I would love to hear your view on Petter's "Det går bra nu", but be sure to get the back story before you listen to it otherwise you will probably be very annoyed... it's pretty good, same sample as Tipsy.

Agree with others Tomas was (is) a famous rapper, as well as producer of hip hop music. So it's self-ironic. It came at just the right time when Hip hop started to be considered a bit quirky, besides, he did a rock / pop song even though it was a cover, but that got many who had previously said that Rapare are not musicians to keep quiet.

As other pointed out, not dissing hip-hop. Rusiak was a hip-hop pioneer in Sweden. Just making fun of the stereotype that was often projected on him. But understand it looks otherwise without that context. FUN-FACT: Rusiak produced the beat for Slick Rick’s Frozen on the Art of Storytelling (which Slick Rick calls so-so in the lyrics to the song 🤣) RECOMMENDED REACTION: Petter - Vinden har vänt. The first (at least many would argue) mainstream hip-hop hit in Swedish and Rusiak raps the lyrics.

I suspect there is a cultural mistranslation here; in swedish culture you are more subdued, so what is considered "showy" in US culture is considered "gaudy" or "tacky" in swedish culture. Also it is influenced by the original punk version, and that punk version rips hard into punk culture with a hefty dose of self-irony. Or put another way, picture GWB singing the thing and you'll probably get closer to the sense of the song. (And wow, ZTV, now that is a blast from the past) Edit: used "flashy" instead of "showy" first
