No problem! You can upgrade to the platinum or apply and have 2 separate cards. I suggest applying just because you’ll lock in a massive welcome offer that vastly outweighs the annual fee in year 1. If you decide it’s not work it to keep the gold and platinum you can downgrade one or both to the no fee blue option

I have a sign up offer for 60K bonus miles. But I also have an off for $300 statement credit plus 30K bonus miles. In your opinion is one offer better than the other or are they pretty much equal? The latter offer only requires 1K spend in the first 6 months and is for a trip I'm planning but haven't booked just yet.

As a college student this card works really well for me. I use it to pay my tuition monthly and pay it back before it’s due, I rack up miles raise my credit and my welcome offer was 80k miles

I was looking at it today! It’s 70,000 now with a $2000 spend which is pretty nice! That’s $700. However, I just got the American Airlines Barclay Red Aviator MasterCard.. it was 60000 miles with any purchase at all! Couldn’t turn that down!

I’ve never had a airline card and my credit score is about a 507 on equivalent and a 550 on trans union would I be able to qualify for this card ? Or which delta card should I apply for

I think those scores will be too low. I would work on getting those up to at least 650+ before you try for these cards

It also helps to have a saving account with American Express. to them- it’s collateral even though you know you will pay the card off.. It’s just a better approval with having that savings

This is a true credit card so it does have a credit limit unlike the Amex gold card which is a charge card. This will help your overall credit limit!

I think the Gold is worth keeping only if you take two flights a year or ones flight with your player two for the free checked luggage. It has covered my annual fee... When I was flying. I downgraded my Delta Platinum to Delta Gold last year.

I got targeted offers for all of the Delta cards, and pulled the trigger on the Delta Gold. I typically fly American (dominant airline here in Florida), but I have a Delta credit from a COVID-cancelled flight, and I wanted to plus up on SkyMiles. I fly with a family of six, and the Delta Platinum is on my radar down the road because the companion certificate easily pays for itself; however, I started with the Gold as its value is much easier to realize (2 years to evaluate & extract >$99 in value) The Delta Gold is the best card to get your feet wet in the program, cause if you can't benefit from *this* card, then you've saved $150 or $451 compared to the Platinum & Reserve, respectively if the program isn't a good fit for you.

I have it just in time for Covid. Sign up bonus is good, but the multipliers are not worth it to me. You're looking at $4,950 in spend just to break even depending on how much you value the points. Delta just devalued points on the frequent flyer program by making some trips, especially international ones cost more points. In the middle of a pandemic. In any case I'm now thinking of either downgrading or cancelling.

I understand that. The great thing about the delta cards is you can downgrade to the blue for no fee and keep your credit score from lowering due to the closed account

Amex never pre announces I Ceres see in their welcome offers but they typically elevate them a few times a year. Check referral offerers and browse incognito and sometimes you can find higher offers

That’s actually a great point! I flew in December and the Atlanta sky club was overflowing. And the person in line in front of me was outraged he had to pay $39 to bring his wife in with his regular Amex platinum. He decided to leave even tho I told him if he had delta registered as his airline fee credit he would be reimbursed haha

Yessir! I am amazed at how mad people get when they are told they have to adhere to the guidelines THEY SIGNED for. It's right there in the bold print, additional guests cost $39 and that's even if you have the Delta Reserve. I added my wife as an AU for that card, didn't feel like dealing with it.

Seriously! How do they now know important details like that. You should know what you’re paying $550 for. I think the delta reserve will be a card I add one day. I’m up to flying 4-5x a year and would like that continue to get higher. Delta is my number 1 go to airline and attaining status is a priority to me

No you need to contact Amex and have them combine the accounts. They might have you contact delta to do it but I would go through Amex first. Their customer service is superior

well that’s not good! By superior I didn’t mean perfect! I would try to contact another rep. So you’ve already got an established sky miles account but on your new card it has a different number? That’s definitely not ok because that means you now have 2 sky miles accounts and the gold card is linked to the new one.

I just bought a flight to Nairobi Kenya. And they offered $200 off if I signed up for this card. That was my main reason for getting it. I’ve never used an airline credit card before but I also don’t have a preferred airline to hop aboard. So maybe this could determine hey of these other airlines. Unless you believe that American or United have a better credit card of the same tier. Then I might would look into those cards as well. Especially if they offer another $200 off on a flight. I’m all about not spending $200 extra dollars

Great move to get this card! Delta is my preferred airline of choice. That’s mostly because of where I’m located delta is the main hub near me so it makes the most logistical sense, but also I prefer them in general. Gold card is great. Hit that welcome offer and you’ll earn a ton of miles and get another flight or 2 for free!

I got approved for this card but they didn’t provide me with the welcome offer. I still accepted it but now regret it because it took up a slot from getting another Amex card and I didn’t get the welcome opportunity to get the sign up bonus. Accepting this card put me in the five max from Amex. I’m thinking close this Delta Amex Gold card and get the Delta Business Reserve. Would you recommend that?

You won’t be able to product change since you would be trying to go from a personal to a business card. Only option I see is cancel gold delta and apply for biz reserve or potentially cancel another Amex credit card you don’t want

Great video Mark! I just got this card with a great offer. 2K spend in 3 months for 70,000 Delta miles, no AF 1st yr. Delta is my primary airline anyways so this was a no brainer. I already have the Amex platinum so I didn't get this card for the perks, just the miles bonus. Hoping travel can start up like normal soon so I can put this to use! As always great info!

I feel the Delta cards are weak when compared to other airline cards. It’s not just the multipliers that bother me it’s the lack of travel protection when compared to Chase. You make a good point on it being a descent starter card.

I agree about being weak. That is, unless you're a Platinum or Diamond and they can help you maintain and carry that status year after year. If you're a Delta frequent flyer and travel 6+ times a year, it's definitely a keeper card.

@@roburb73 Reserve is a card for chasing status. I’d rather have the Amex Platinum or the Charles Schwab version to the Delta Reserve (DR). That makes more sense to me especially when you lose some multipliers with DR. Delta Platinum seems to be a better middle ground. I feel going for Delta Gold intro offer in the first two years then switching to the Delta Platinum is the best play. Even that, I still find them not as substantial as other airline cards. If I was flying on 6+ round trip Delta flights then I would consider a card like this more.

@@tacticoolalan368 I have the CS Platinum and it's a great card, transferred 775K in points. I absolutely keep the card to maintain my PM status, the benefits of having that status far outweigh the cost if paying the annual fee. I take, on average, about 8-10 Delta flights per year, so it makes sense. This year, at least, I get 5x points when using my Reserve on Delta flights so it's even with the Amex Platinum.

There is one instance I have to disagree about American Express Delta credit cards compared to other airline partner cards. Family/group trips. For Delta Gold and higher, you get free first checked bags for you and up to 8 additional individuals on the same itinerary. However, (from everything I've read and seen here on KZbin) with the Citi AA Platinum or Barclays Aviator Red $99 fee you're limited to primary and 4 additional passengers. Now the Executive $450 annual fee matches 9 total. Yet, with the Chase United Explorer Card $95 annual fee limited to cardholder and one companion one bag each fee free. For the United Infinite $525 annual fee card, first two checked bags for the cardholder and one bag for one companion. Just FYI if you're having a group/big family event. :)

Weird the limit is low but after a few months you can request to triple it to $3K or if you have another Amex credit card you can move some limit around to increase it
