I’ve been a Gold Card holder for 2 years. I am military so I don’t pay the yearly fee, that being said, I called to upgrade to platinum back in June. The guy on the phone said “Maybe hold off on that, we have some offers coming you may like”. Yesterday I got a 60k point bonus for upgrading to platinum. Now I have >200k points and will be using it to take a nice vacation.

Just use it for groceries and dinning where ever Amex is accepted. Also use any Amex offers (10% for car gas, 8x MR points at Amazon, ...etc).

I used it as a baby Platinum card for big purchases I wanted protections for. That has since be retired from that role since I got the Platinum card 3 days ago. I also keep as true as possible to it being a charge card and only put things on it that i can payoff in the next billing cycle. I use my AMEX EveryDay card for AMEX offers that i may carry a balance for 1-2 months (not regular, but just in case). i.e. spend $750 at a Four Seasons hotel and get $XXX back.

Of the perks that you mentioned I enjoy the Amex Offers, Hilton Status and the Airline Incidental Credit the most. While the Airline Incidental Credit isn't as easy as it was to use years ago, Amex has always been generous when I called in to adjust my airline of choice to attend my lounge of choice. I once even switched airline affiliations after having used part of my airline credit.

My favorite benefits: - Uber credit (use for UberEats pickup) - Airline incidental fee credit (I know, not the easiest to use, but not impossible) - Centurion Lounge access (when normal times returns...) One thing to add is that there were many limited time benefits for Platinum members in 2020 that were of value that offset the lack of travel given the circumstances. Free breakfast at hotels in the time of Covid is really not a good value now, which I try to take more advantage of. I got two hard boiled eggs, a bowl of cereal, and a pastry, and the staff stopped caring, so everyone got the free breakfast. I know it's a first world complaint, but if I have the benefit, it's kind of a waste and a way for the hotel to save money than pass it off to the customer.

I actually just got approved for the platinum and got special off for 150,000 bonus points. At first it was 125. Went through application process and before submitting it, I ended up Backing out of it and went to home page. After refreshing and looked at there offers, they offered 150,000 points and got approved right away. Obviously after spending $6,000 in 6months.

Tried for 3 days straight using card match for the 100K-125K, no luck and no tricks worked. 75K is good enough for me! Some people use MS Outlook instead of Google calendar!! ;) 2:14 - Mandy (missed opportunity) :D If I have a Priority Pass Card from my CSR, Why would I apply for one from my AMEX Platinum?? How different is the car rental status benefit(s) from what you get with the CSR? 1) Low since they gave $20 streaming and $20 mobile monthly credits for ~6 months. 2) I think it depends on # of cancelations; if they see a ton in Q1 they'll probably add another credit for Q2+ (this is just a guess though). 3) 😋

Why not apply as a fresh card and get 125k points? If you have the Gold, I'm assuming you still value MR points (for cash out?) -- 125k * 1.25 CPP = $1560 in cash. Perks and annual fee cover each other pretty easily. YMMV obviously.

Using points to upgrade is generally doesn't make sense. You usually want to book directly w/ points into F/J. Optimal booking is either 300/330 days out or 15 days out. You would need to have the points ready to go before this point.

My application was canceled and I called and they said I was not 'denied' it was canceled since it was considered a duplicate application. This, as they say, since I already have a card in the platinum family I can't hold another. Is this something new?

Explain to them that the Schwab card is different product. What does it say on your Amex application history? You might need to HUCA to get it pushed through.
