Love all the work Pranay but small correction or maybe a better way of comparison would be to see the prices of these flights on regular websites with available discounts and then get the Per Point value because I was just checking Oslo to New Delhi for the same date same flight business class it was INR 120,000 (Excluding any discounts) and not 2 Lakhs. :) So the value would be around INR 1 per point which is still great!

Aggregators like MakeMyTrip don't really offer a much better price in my experience, and I prefer booking international tickets directly with the airline (more flexibility, lesser charges). You're seeing different prices because this industry is very dynamic

Hi Akshay, firstly thanks for the generosity! You're officially the first person who has done this and I'm honestly a little amused 😁 On your question - amex points for domestic flights is possible. Easiest way is convert amex to krisflyer points. and then use krisflyer to redeem points for Air India which is a part of star alliance like krisFlyer. I foresee a future post nov 12th, that a lot of vistara flights will also be redeemable with flying returns on air india. Hope this helps!

Flying returns is the loyalty program of Air India. It is merging with Vistara on Nov 12th. The avg point value is very dynamic - similar to the prices of these flights. Will entirely depend on the destination, time of the year and so on.. can range from 0.25 to 0.8 or so..

another tip is kris flyer to amex is that your better off booking transit flights to Bkk or manila via Singapore specifically because the business class ticket one way is 43k miles for all 3 cities Bkk manila and Singapore but you get 2 flights for Bkk and manila both business class and while redeeming your award flight for higher miles you can choose a complimentary stopover at Singapore and then move to your destination

To truly maximise on value per point, you should look to fly First class with British Airways. I recently flew from London to Chicago First Class for 80000 avios. This ticket costs anywhere between Rs 12 lakhs. So that's Rs 7.5 per point. And first class is quite a special experience.

Platinum Travel Card is not an upgrade but a different card all together. Its great card if you can spend 4L per year on it as it gives bonus points on reaching milestones. Amex points are amex points and all cards contribute to the same point system so no they wont expire.

Don't buy Marriot at 40% more, that's one of their worst offers. Marriot usually has 100% bonus offers in Nov/December - so every 160,000 points you buy, you get 160,000 points free.

Although your friend found a great flight and value - he could have had much better experience with Qatar Airways (QSuites, if not the best is atleast top 3 business class flight in the world) Qatar uses Avios as well, and the points is exactly the same for a Qatar airways flight (which is ranked top#3 since 10+ years now) as it is for Finnair. Example, If I want to travel Mumbai - Oslo, it's 55,000 points for a Qatar Business Class flight (QSuite, the best again) per person. So 110,000 points + 35k cash for 2 people. Now these flights are way more expensive than your Finnair flight would be, and of course much better but I hope he has a great time! :)

We know about the 30% point upgrade during September and October and that we need to call Amex to add points upon completing the milestone. What I'm unsure about is whether I should save the points for the next 2-3 years or use them each year, given that we've already achieved the 4 lakh milestone within 6-7 months. Hi, amex points don't expire so you can choose how you want to use them, be it this year or save for later, it depends on your preference really :) And yes, refer your husband with your link, get another amex Platinum travel for him and exhaust his 4 Lac milestone too!

Also, would like to drop a hack since we're on it. How I usually book Marriot is 3 people in a room to get the best value, sometimes it's my parents and me sharing it, sometimes my sister with my parents. Now what this does is, when u book a triple occupancy room using $, the value is much higher but the points remains the same. Also, since Marriot offers a 5th night free, use this to optimise at the highest level. For a booking for Masai Mara, 26th March to 31st March 2025 it's 560,000 points for 5 nights for either 2 guests or 3 guests. Since it's mostly all inclusive, the price of the room changes as per the number of guests, but points don't. So for 2 guests it currently costs $23,000 for the 5 nights (19L), or 5,60,000 points. For 3 guests, it costs $34,000 for 5 nights (28L), or 5,60,000 points. Do note - some fees are chargeable even though 90-95% is all inclusive, such as game night permits per day is chargeable at around $100 or $200 (don't remember exactly), per person per day. So that's around $300-$600 if you'd all be going for a safari everyday. Just a few things to keep in mind, done quite a bit of research on the same. Also, the triple occupancy works like a gem from past experience (even though $ value goes up significantly per extra person, the points remain same for the room - so always worth taking someone from the fam or friend :D)

For international travel, Amex Platinum Charge card is the best since it gives 3X points, practically offsetting the forex charges. But the card comes at a hefty fee of 70K. Ofc this included the 1.3L points I got from taking the Platinum card (which is worth it since I travel a lot) The rest, I reach all milestones on gold, MRCC, and platinum travel. All my bills are paid through Amazon Pay for which I get (5 points for every 40 Rs spent) I spend more than 30k a month on this minimum, for bills etc

Had posted a full summary on the Masi Mara, explaining all details but somehow got deleted :( Anyway, if you didn't delete it - putting it here again The best way to book Marriott properties is for triple occupancy instead of double. I usually pile on with my parents to get the best value possible. Masai Mara, especially being all inclusive changes tremendously with the number of people. For example 2 people, 5 people cost around 19L for a 5 night stay. For the same room, 3 people cost around 28L for a 5 night stay. However, both for double or triple occupancy the room rates change the same - 560,000 points. Also do note - Masai Mara has other hidden charges like $200 per day per person for the safari permit, that adds to $600 a day for 3 people ($3,000 for a 5 day trip) Why 5 days trip? The 5th night is usually free for Marriot Silver+ members so better value again. 29L worth stay in 560,000 points is almost INR5/point which is insane and unheard of.

I am facing problem in linking my amex with Marriott bonvay. It was saying that pls contact marriott for the issue as the details provided dont match. But iam unable to reach out to Marriott Bonvay customer care. Any one please help me in contacting Marriott customer care
