She was 12 back then, The River, and Nella Fantasia, based on Gabriel's oboe, both taken from the film - The Mission. She's just had her 19th birthday, and her latest release is called Gesu Bambino. It's is beautiful too. She hasn't lost any magic.

Great reaction once again guys. Not sure why you haven’t received many comments as yet, but hopefully they’ll come. For a 12 year old, the tone is beautiful. Her voice is so clean & together with her power, voice control & magnificent vibrato, it is simply a superb performance. Throw in that she sings from within with passion & emotion ( in all her performances) , I can’t find an adjective to give this performance its proper dues. Maybe extraordinary, maybe sublime. Anyway, it doesn’t matter, I just love it !!! Cheers Graeme

This beautiful aria with music by Ennio Morricone from the film “The Mission,” and lyrics added by Chiara Ferraù is about an imaginary world of peace and harmony. I presume the implication is that this is the fantasy of the missionary which provokes enormous irony. The “mission” of the missionary is to persuade the indigenous people to abandon their cultural traditions and superstitions in favor of the missionary’s culture and superstitions. Europeans generally regarded indigenous peoples to be “savages” in need of “salvation.” So the fantasy is presumably about a world of European culture and superstition, rather than of any sort of diversity or inclusion. The first 2 minutes is another Ennio Morricone composition called "The River" with the voices of the Mzansi Youth Choir, then Amira comes on stage for Nella Fantasia.
