Story 1: If anybody is a narcissist and a jerk, it is very clearly Lauren here, not the OP. Lauren is the selfish one and the bad friend. As the OP said, she's one that needs to have the spotlight, and the OP's birthday is definitely not the place for it. Lauren should do it on her own birthday if she wants to do it that badly. OP was 100% in the right to uninvite her and block her. Screw Lauren and her supporters. Story 2: Yeah, if i had a sibling that was messing around with my fiance/spouse, i wouldn't want anything to do with them either. Good thing i'm an only child. OP is not the jerk here, the sister obviously is for everything she has done, and then expecting the OP to just brush it off because "family". The sister doesnt deserve to be there at the wedding or be in the OP's life in any capacity. Story 3: Always a bad boss that will ruin it for anyone. OP is not the jerk at all here. Always need to look out for #1. I know i would've quit on the spot with a boss like that as well.... and i have before too. Sounds like the other co-workers need to quit as well. Story 4: Another case of 'you give an inch, they take a mile'. You do something nice for them once, then they'll just expect it all the time in the future... which is what is clearly happening here. OP isnt a jerk and shouldn't feel guilty here, especially if those kid are misbehaved and destructive. I would never watch them again. Story 5: The OP's family just suck here. They clearly were using the OP and some kind of travel agent for all of this. I know i wouldn't want to be going with them. OP's only mistake here was saying that they could be left behind if things were too compliated. Sounds like that what the smoking gun that the family needed in order to leave the OP behind. If i were the OP, i would go low contact with them after this stunt. Story 6: I aboslutely hate bosses like this. The gloating about not getting sick is bad enough, but always expecting workers to show up no matter what is stupid and is a reason why other people get sick and why places like that are having a hard time keeping employees nowadays. Glad to hear that that stupid boss got sick as a result of all of this, he deserved it. Hopefully the OP felt better and hopefully the boss spent time in the ICU.

Repeat after me: "I don't babysit!" That is all I care to say before I walk away! I raised my three children by myself and I am done! This ex of a friend of my ex keeps trying to drop her children off with me. The first time it happened, my ex told her and her husband we would let their children spend the night one Friday night. They didn't come back for two days! We found out they were up the entire time doing meth! She was pregnant! I am on disability for various issues. She followed me home from a doctor's appointment, one day. When she pulled in to my driveway while I was getting out of my car, she was all excited, rambling something about all she had to do! I just said I didn't babysit and walked in, shutting the door behind me. I didn't owe her any more of an explanation than that!

my issue with the vegan situation (I'm only 1:17 in btw): 1. Humans are omnivores, meat is meant to be consumed by us and it is why we evolved to have a variety of teeth shapes. 2. It isn't discrimination to with meat or dairy while a vegan is there 3. No one should ever have to ask about food in a party unless its accessories. If you want pizza, you get pizza, maybe you ask for some topping suggestions, but you NEVER EVER ask what people want to eat.

At this point the story where the person is getting married should just tell the mom to either come to the wedding or not due to her sister's actions. Calling it childish to hold a grudge as if she wasn't cheated in her life time and wasted large sums of money for a special day. People like that think it's like you break something and you can always replace it. With the 3rd story, that's exactly how I felt and why I quit. I was at the job 5 years, but had received no recognition of my hard work. I literally knowledge of every nook of that place, yet instead of promoting me they hire from outside. And then, I had to report to these new managers about things they knew nothing about. Other times, due to regulation, I had to get permission to do things I already knew and the manager is like "why are you calling then". It all boiled to a head when this job gave me anxiety and depression so had to quit for health reasons, but I feel if I was given the acknowledgement I deserved things would have been way different. It was 5 years and never even had a promotion, yet I was over qualified for the job in the first place.

I had something similar, only my mom and step dads got married the day after my birthday 4 years after I was born. Ever since my 5th birthday, I have never had a birthday party. One year, we were planing a huge birthday/ anniversary party. Calling venues, drink lists, all by me. Then a week before they came to me and say they have changed their mind, that they and are going to do a cruise. I didn’t mind and got excited because I’ve never been able to go on a cruise/destination vacation with my family. They sheepishly looked at me and said “no, sorry, but it’s just us”. Honestly I was already used it at that point. But it still sucked.

The woman from the first story is a nightmare. I'm glad op dropped her. Nobody needs that level of toxic nonsense in their lives. The pregnancy announcement thing was rude enough. My bff found out she was pregnant before my birthday. But didn’t tell everyone else until a week later. We decided to do a girls dinner that night and she was driving. On the way to the mall she was being a little offputting now thinking about it. By soon as we park, she tells me that I’m gonna be an aunt again. I have older siblings who had kids. She pulled out her ultrasound and I was so excited. We went in the restaurant I had a couple of extra drags out of excitement. But with it being my birthday, nobody thought why I was extra happy. And she didn’t have a drink. But nobody called her out on it. Again, a week later, she made the announcement, because good friends do not take away the attention like that. I was excited because she told me, and she decide to share that special moment with me.

Story 6: My former employers at a cinema was just like that boss. You try to phone in sick they had the attitude "You are a liar. If you don't come in you will be be given disciplinary actions", and doctor's notes ended up straight in the shredder so they could say "You are lying, there is no doctor's notes in your file". When you are severely ill at work, the managers would threaten you. One extremely toxic A-hole manager would use the excuse "You are a threat to customers" as a reason to verbally/mentally abuse ill staff (he reduced a colleague to tears in front of customers because he viewed her health complications from 'time of the month' as she was a "threat to customers") no wonder that cinema chain is having 'problems'
