1st story. not a jerk. I would have done THE EXACT SAME THING to them. I respect this lady. 2nd story. not a jerk. Just the mere fact that the boyfriend didn't say a word to his mother in his girlfriend's defense who more than likely did nothing to her just shows that he encourages his mother's behavior. She's a smart one for backing out and breaking up with him because if he's doing that now, There's no way he'll ever come to her aid in any other instance. 3rd story. the husband is definitely cheating.

@@1mol831 Either way, she's right. The dad is a grown man and is able to make his own decisions whether it be the right or wrong one. The dad is well off and is able to buy his own home if need be. However, the reason i think the father made the wrong decision is quite linear. He's blinded by the fact that his new wife is his old highschool/college crush or w.e and the fact that he has 2 kids with her and no house for them. Now, had he put all 3 of the ladies in their place. Maybe they could have stayed with the OP longer albeit with a bit of attitude. But it would have been better than not having a home at all or having to go spend more money elsewhere. So, yes. Dumb decision on his end but as a man. He should live with it.

One can be a decent person while also being a bit snobbish, the key is just not to be a jerk about it, father doesn't seem to forbid or sabotage the relationship. The family is loaded, especially on deceased wife's side (and through her, the daughter's), some caution about potential gold-diggers trying to marry into it just for money is justified.

Story #3 - That man is cheating. (I wish I could make that period bigger!!) Without a doubt. You don't put locks on your closet to teach a lesson. You do it because you have secrets that you need to hide. That woman needs to have a locksmith and an attorney go through that closet the next time she gets the chance. If he can't trust her, how can she trust him? A relationship without trust is not a relationship.

Some people don't like their personal things being fucked around with by people who don't have permission snooping in them, but nevertheless, her hubby did some crazy shit and for him to blow up like that... He's got something to hide. The teaching lesson could be multiple lessons such as not invading personal space. While the arrangement started off well enough soon the wife started verbally attacking our children, lying and making up stories to her husband about our family, and all around acting very badly. As nice as you were to allow your father's new family to have a roof over their heads and then to be so disrespected by that new family is something that you DO NOT have to put up with. Period! You are totally in the right to remove them from your home and do not ever look back and feel regret!!!! It will only get worse. Good Luck in your future☺️

In story 3, mom and I always check Dad's pockets because he never does. He often just let coins hurt the machine or leaves dirty tissues all over the place. We check to protect the machine. One time I did accidentally set down and forgot where I put a flash drive that did held important documents for his job. We had search the house but we found it. And as upset as he was we told him to leave his flash drives not in the pockets he just toss aside but in the drawer that is for his personal belongings. When he calm down he saw we had a point. I also pointed out I was checking his pockets because he washed a flash drive that he browed from me and forgot it in his pockets. That had my homework in it. I just didn't want the same mistake repeated twice. Op doing that is very natural and your husband is lying to on something serious and gaslighting you for it.

@@stefanbosiljcic236 I disagree with your comment. Not 100% of it, just the betrayal part. While it's not really betrayal (which you and I both already know) she had a reason to cut ties with him. He attempted to defend his new family several times when they were clearly in the wrong. When you know someone did something wrong, especially disrespecting your child's deceased wife, then you immediately cut all ties with them and you leave them to bite the dust. Not only did they disrespect OP's mother, they also disrespected OP. I'm terrified I'll end up going through a similar situation, without the new family part. Imagine you brother dying from cancer, giving you his house and all his great stuff, making sure you had a roof above your head and money to help you live your life, and your parents' "new family" tried to destroy and undo all of that. Trashing the house, going through your shit, and worst of all, talking crap about your dead brother, mocking him. None of this happened to me, but I'm making a point. You don't associate yourself with bad people, you associate yourself with good people. If OP's dad wants to hang around with his new family, then he can go too since he wants to choose them over his flesh and blood. If OP's dad changed his mind and took OP's side instead, then it's pretty obvious her dad knew she wasn't fucking around. You don't turn your back on your own flesh and blood. My grandmother's father made that mistake, and she barely ever talks to him because of it. Ol' granddad was cool to me, but I found out the harsh truth myself, that he abandoned her like my parents did me. I could cut all ties with my bio mom and dad. My dad I already cut all ties with because of what he did to me, and the fact he didn't even bother calling me. My mother I'm quite unfortunate to be around because I despise her just as much, but have to be around her because my grandmother (my gramma is her mom) can't bring herself to let my bio mom go. I don't hate my mother because in my honest opinion she's better than my father and her sister. But I wish she listened to her grandmother before she got pregnant with me. tl:dr: OP has every right to cut ties with her dad, but he did change his mind and choose to take OP's side and not his new family's side so he earned respect from OP.

3rd story, definately suspect for me. About 30 years ago, I was doing as she did, cleaning out my husbands pockets to do laundry as they were always loaded with stuff, and found a note from another woman, trying to end an affair he was having with her. We split up. Fast forward about 15 years and we reconnected and became friends again, living in different states, and eventually decided to reconcile. After he moved out here, I was doing the same thing, his laundry, cleaning out pockets that still were loaded down with stuff. This time, no note from a mistress. No, this time, I find out he had a CHILD with another woman he NEVER told me about. A child that was conceived AFTER we had reconciled, he just wasn't out here yet. So yeah, my personal experience says not a jerk. He's definately hiding something, even if it not an affair. If you are that determined to hide stuff from your spouse, especially for a prolonged time....... it's unlikely it's anything good.

Insulting her mother in her childhood home was crossing a line. They have no rights to choose how anything is done in her private property, and after such a foul insult, they lost the privilege of staying. I support her decision of kicking out such a toxic group. The father should have drawn a clear line of respecting his daughter when the signs started appearing, his passivity was a choice and the consequences were inevitable.

in regards to story three, i had a good friend who had similar reactions to perceived privacy. we each rented a room in a third person's multi bedroom home and she would use a camera in her room to record if anyone went in there, and checked it daily. I only noticed it because she had two kittens and we had the back door open for several minutes and i was just trying to ensure that they were in the house or if i had to start calling for them in the neighborhood. I was up front with her about the incident, and thankfully, her kittens never left the house, but she admitted to being confused when she saw me enter her room multiple times. This behavior is explained by my friend's emotionally and verbally abusive mother, who regularly snooped through her things, stole property from her daughter and repeatedly lied about doing so, and manipulated her son and daughter to try and get them to move back in with her so they could take care of her and she could order them around and control their lives. Her mother repeatedly tried to get into locked closets that my friend installed hasp locks on, to which my friend has the video evidence of, and tricked her son into breaking into his sister's closets under the excuse of the locked doors being a fire hazard. Which is ironic as F*** because my friend LITERALLY works as a firefighter, knows the regulations, and repeatedly told her mother she was full of it, and NO she had no permission to access her grown daughter's closet contents even if they were in her own house. Finally, she had to buy a rolling security cage to keep some of her things in after the incident so her mother could SEE the things that her daughter was keeping, but had no access to them. She is currently attempting to amass enough money to get her own place where she can get her own things out of her mother's house, and finally cut contact with the woman. TL:DR, it might not have anything to do with the spouse. perhaps OP's husband repeatedly had to deal with a 'snooper' as he was growing up and now reacts strongly to triggers, even unintentional ones.

The third one is called gaslighting. The OP is being perfectly reasonable, but have been made to question that. For the first one, I think I would have glowed red and physically removed them from the property if they made a comment like that. They're not paying tenants, no notice should be needed.

@@RabblesTheBinx Not "always" but in a situation where people have been living there for two months it generally is, since that could be considered a kind of tenancy under oral agreement. "Always" would be unreasonable though, ex. if you invited someone over for drinks and they refused to leave you wouldn't need to allow them to stay in hour house for a month, that would be insane. You only need to give notice to tenants (i.e. people who have a reasonable expectation of living there).

I think the dad was unfair to her when he went and got married without telling her anything. He certainly didn't need his daughter's permission to have a new life, but the fact that she didn't know about it and wasn't even invited to the wedding shows a complete disregard for her as an existing part of his life. It seemed like other than living in her house, he only saw his daughter as part of the past and not part of his continuing life.

Laundry - OP is not the jerk there. The fact that the husband made a big deal out of her emptying the pockets means that something is going on. Now, it could be a Good Something, like the dude found out that he's in line for a promotion, or that he wants to surprise her with a night out on the town, or it could be an Innocent Something - just a co-worker's phone number not yet in the cellphone. Story 1: I feel sorry for the OP, her father forever destroyed his relationship with his child for people who clearly don't respect his child, and explicitly disrespect the dead mother/wife. OP's continued contact with him however is bad idea, he probably thinks this is just a hiccup in his relationship with his child...but if the father can side against OP here, then when will he back OP. Story 2: Yeah, that's the right move to not get on the plane, and since the boyfriend didn't see anything wrong with what his mother had done, then breaking up is inevitable, doing it publicly and shaming the mother is just a bonus. Story 3: Depending on the laws where OP lives, either hire a Private Investigator, or file directly for divorce. OP doesn't need that stress, and whatever trust might have existed was broken in that moment.

Pretty much everything I would do the same except I wouldn't see it as the Dad choosing Steph over his daughter. If he wanted no contact with his daughter that would be choosing. But he sided with his daughter regarding the dispute, even saying he was proud of her. So overall it was wrong of her to assume that her Dad chose Steph and it would've been wrong of her if she made an ultimatum saying, "Either stay with her or we're done". If she had done that, the Dad would've chosen her. But OP maturely left the door open to a future relationship with her Dad so he decided that she was an adult now, she no longer needed him as a parent and moved out with Steph on the assumption he would still have a relationship with his daughter. But the daughters' false belief in that he chose Steph is clouding her feelings and that is what's causing a quiet rift between father and daughter. If it had been a proper "Steph or me?" The father would've chosen OP for sure. I say this from personal experience; my Dad had a GF and I moved in with them when I was 14. The GF didn't like that my Dad showed more affection for me than he did for her children who are not his; by no means was he disaffectionate with them, it just wasn't on the same level. She blame me for that so she'd always get her kids to annoy me to the point of anger so that she'd have a reason to "discipline" me. She'd plant her belongings in my room to frame me as a thief; she even used my nan's gold display spoons once and put it in my school bag. For the most part my Dad bought into it but he was never harsh with me maybe because he had a sense something wasn't quite right. One night as GF and I were having an argument, Dad intervened. When Dad seemed to take my side; GF just glared at him... then smirked, "You have to choose, right now; me or your son!" She then smirked at me. I looked at her in disgust and disbelief; disgust she would make that ultimatum and disbelief in the fact that... she thought she won. I then looked at my Dad which confirmed what I knew already; we look very similar, just different colouring, so I got a pretty good idea how I looked when I had looked at GF because his face too was distorted in disgust and disbelief. It was quiet for a bit, probably because my Dad was trying to process the sheer audacity of what she had just said. Then he said, "James... pack up all your stuff" GF smiled victoriously at me, "We're getting the he'll put of here" at that GF's face just dropped and she looked at my Dad, her turn to look on in disbelief as he walked over to their room. As I packed my stuff, I could continue hearing her say, "Why are you packing your stuff? He's the only one that has to go! YOU don't have to go! I love you, don't you see that? We'll be happy once he's gone!" My Dad was having none of it. A couple weeks later she convinces him to get back with her. I stayed with my nan and my Dad stayed at his GF's a couple nights a week. At the time he was renovating her house and it was almost done. Status quo remained unchanged for a couple months. Two weeks after the renovations were done... she broke up with my Dad. I found out she put the house up for sale; when my Dad first started living there it was worth MAYBE $250,000... but when he was done I was worth $500,000. After it was sold she moved to a entirely different state with her children to be with a man she'd apparently been speaking to for about 6 months. She used my Dad... destroyed his confidence. If I ever see her again... sadly I will kill her. I won't be able to control myself. So I know what it's like when that kind of ultimatum is given... fair enough she wanted to kick Steph out... but it very wrong of her to try and do that to her Dad. And think for even a moment, that her Dad cares more about them than her.
