Also a great way to get rid of the awful dealership badges that they force on customers.

ChefDomH. I was talking about those the other day. They send your car out with advertising and car damage by adding 3d emblems to them. If they paid me a yearly advertising fee I'd be cool w it. but they just fuck you into advertising.

extremely helpful video! I used 10lb test fishing line + blow dryer + Goo Gone and the dryer worked VERY quickly - can't imagine taking the risk of a heat gun when the blow dryer was so fast (30-45 sec per badge). after the badges were off, the excess adhesive tape rolled right off by hand (2016 Toyota Highlander), so the Goo Gone was just for cleanup and took 60 secs (I could have skipped it!). then wiped clean and hand waxed. done! total time = heating badge, 1 min.; fishing line, 2 mins.; removing excess adhesive, 5 mins; Goo Gone and wiping clean, 5 mins. Difficulty level is like a 3/10. And this was my first time. Thank you!

I work at Finish Line Car Wash and Detail and we're professional but we don't do the cars you guys get but we do get Porsches and Mercedes and older cars and we use lacquer thinner to get anything sticky off and actually clean stains in carpet. You have to be careful with it though. Can't get it on anything plastic it will melt it and/or discolor it. But it works very well. And seems to be safe.

You have some great tutorial videos. A couple of things. First and foremost before removing any badges make sure they are not mounted on. Many manufacturers mount them with two or more pins. If you remove it there will be holes in the bodywork. You can easily go to the dealer and ask them about that part and they can show you on a schematic how it is mounted. There is an easier way to remove the glue. Instead of using a plastic razor (which can scratch the paint), take your finger (works best with rubber gloves) and roll the tape over itself. You start by just slowly rubbing a finger over a thin side of the glue and it will roll and ball up. It will make it much easier to remove the remaining glue as it sticks to itself. I have removed badges for over 20 years and found this to be the easiest, safest and fastest method.

kevin rafferty I really didn´t think and didn´t know that any car manufacturers still used badge pins - but as I can see from the comments to this video clip - this is still the case. Apart from trying to google it I think - on the rear - that the only way is to remove the cover inside the trunk and to check for pins there. But it´s a good question actually.

Good video. The problem is alot of emblems have a stud or 2 in addition to the glue. So you need to get behind them and crack off the studs then use the fishing line. Subaru I'm talking to you. The bright side is that I was replacing one Subaru emblem for another one that was another color on my STI, so the leftover goo wasn't an issue, but bending the metal around the emblem prying could be.....

sfield86 How badly would that mess with the paint though?
@sfield86
@sfield86 9 жыл бұрын
Just did it a couple weeks ago w/ a friend's new car. It didn't mess with the paint at all, just took it slow and steady till all the glue was gone. Didn't need to polish it after either. (did this just before washing it, so I guess the soap made sure the oil was gone)

even on an $80k+ car, you still get orange peel, unless i'm just seeing things (to the right of his head where the light is) and i never understood why people like to debadge. makes their car look so bland with so much empty space in an area.

Maybe he got it debadged so that if he ever got caught speeding and the cop didn't know what the car was by the looks he couldn't say a "black Nissan GTR is heading south on I-90" or whatever and he might have a better chance of getting away.

3m adhesive remover works really well for taking off the rest of the double sided tape. Makes sense considering most double sided tape you find on autos use 3m product.

I want to have this done to my Bentley. My husband bought me this car and I feel a bit uncomfortable. I volunteer at a homeless shelter and also at a drug abuse agency. The people I work with and the residents are always commenting on my car. I wouldn't mind having the emblems removed so it wouldn't be so flashy.
@billwilmington8284

Just because you remove the emblems doesn't mean they won't try to steal your Bentley. Maybe since you're able to afford a Bentley you should buy a secondary car that isn't flashy.

I used to do this pretty often at work,I would use heat to remove the badge with the fish gut,then let the left over glue cool down, apply something cold to the area,glue breaks down more so with cold,its much easier to remove,id use soap and water with the plastic blade to cause less friction.

not necessarily, depends, the wd will get your decals and emblems off but sure, if you want to polish it and buff it you can. See f there is a difference between the exposed paint and the one under the removed decal.

Do you have any reservations about using WD40 or mineral oil to remove adhesive from body paint? I've used WD40 to remove sticker residue (from state-required stickers) pretty successfully, and it avoids the risk of scratches from rubbing anything back and forth against the paint, which is probably softened by heat. It's also less volatile and harsh than the solvents.
