My weird Toma bias will always be rooted in my experience with him in the anime-all the way through the first few episodes I just kept thinking “god all these dudes are terrifying dating prospects but Toma seems sweet WHY CANT MC JUST BE WITH TOMA ALREADY BEST BOY” and then this yandere realness happens. It’s like I can’t tear my eyes away now. Still shocked all these years later.

@@SimplyTypicalMe It's very weird cause I played his route first (Amnesia was like...my third otome game in my life, the other two I played were wayyyyyyy more fluffy than Amnesia) and even after he went yandere, I still loved him through and through. Idk, his route is not for everyone, but it's heavily depends on what you are into. As someone with severe abandonment issues + likes protective men (in fiction, if he existed irl I'm dialing that 9 and double 1), sign me up!

+Kelly Cowley I'm glad it made you laugh! :D ^^ Somehow I couldn't stop myself with adding comments to Toma's bad endings ^^' The funny thing is that before playing I didn't know much about this game and the first route I chose was diamond ^^' at first I liked Toma but then I started being suspicious and.....cage of course xDD so then I just kept choosing all bad options and I knew exactly that I was going to get the worst end but I was really pissed and furious ^^' (What am I? a chamster to be locked in a cage? lol ^^') and the bad endings of course were to me like 'yay! I need to choose between two psychos! fun fun fun' (following Ukyo is a really wise choice xDDD) I like Toma but except that 'yandere mode'...it's not into my liking and looking at other bad endings in different routes where he appears (mostly I'm thinking about Shin's route)....that's really creepy...but at least characters in game are varied ^^' of course after some time I played that route again to get good ending but still....I had to choose option which I wouldn't normally choose and that was annoying to me so.....if I ended up in diamond world I would be locked in the cage forever or I'd be new Samara because of drowning in the well xDD ^^' ...and I like Ukyo but his behavior in this route was odd from the beginning so when I saw him in different routes it was like '....I'm not going to be fooled!' *waits for any weird Ukyo's behavior*

These bad endings make a lot of sense to me (though I think Shin would have come looking for the MC at some point for the 2nd one). I'm honestly surprised Toma managed to get a "good" ending at all, considering how extreme his actions were. And I like yandere characters, but I found the MC's acceptance of his bad behaviour in the good ending to be extremely disturbing. He drugged her, locked her in a cage and almost assaulted her and she just says, "It wasn't that bad," "You didn't do anything wrong," and "Thank you. I was actually really happy." Really? I know irl no sane person would date someone who had done something like this to them, and that fiction allows us to "experience romance" with people we would otherwise not touch with a 10 foot pole, so I shouldn't really be looking at this game for any semblance of realism. BUT it would have been nice to have the MC admonish his problematic behaviour instead of just giving him a free pass. It made the good ending feel as twisted as the bad ones.

i mean she was desperately inlove with him since she was a kid.. and as a doll shes practically an empty vessel i do agree to a point, once your relationship has resorted to locking someone in a dog cage for their safety you can’t really “turn back” or revert, thats a permanent scar on the relationship but at the same time id hate to have an insufferable mc telling him how “problematic” his actions were. you’re seriously overexaggerating how she acted, we’re looking at the same route but your perception is twisted to some weird victim stockholm case. she gave him a ‘free pass’ because she literally cant think for herself, shes the equivalent to a blank slate. the entire time this was happening tomas actions were incredibly one sided, with only orion being the real emotional victim to this. if mc here was absolutely off her hooks telling him ‘what terrible degree his actions are’ honestly? who would even play that? i mean if it were a western game with uglier characters probably? but nobody wants a self insert mc who cant shut up

@@mymindsin144p4 I think there's been some sort of misunderstanding. I don't enjoy watching characters constantly condemning people either. I wouldn't want her calling out his behaviour all the time. It just would have been nice to have a moment at the end where she was like, "I want you to be able to trust me more, and trust the fact that I love you. I don't ever want to go through that again," or just something, anything to acknowledge that what she went through was extreme. Again, I'd like to stress that I love yandere characters. I, actually, can't stand it when an MC does the whole, "You're a monster!" thing. It drives me up the wall. That's not the reaction I was thinking of when I said I wanted her to reprimand him for his actions - sorry if I didn't make that clear enough. It's actually why I chose the word admonish - because it's the action of scolding, but it didn't feel as harsh as some other words. This is an otome after all. I want the characters to have a happy ending despite the crazy odds. It just felt wrong that she didn't have any kind of negative reaction at all, you know? Also, I'm not sure what you meant by overexaggerate. All I did was list his actions and then take direct quotes from the end of the game as to her response. Unless you're referring to something else, I'm not sure how that's an exaggeration. And I've never thought of it as Stockholm Syndrome before, because she already knew Toma and loved him dearly and I don't think the game was trying to paint that picture for the happy ending. I guess, I just really wanted everyone's happy endings to feel truly happy and this was the only one that destroyed my suspension of disbelief.

I don't want to be bias as a Toma girlie (don't judge me, Toma is right--I have bad taste in men), I don't think the MC is suffering stockholm syndrome. MC is just a kind-hearted person + empathetic that puts things in other's perspectives. In Later, she even forgave Rika for starting that smear campaign against her, and Toma even says if she forgave him, it's not a surprise she also forgave Rika. I'm obviously not saying you should forgive ppl for locking you in cages just cause you are a nice person, but the MC was in love with Toma long before she even knew what love was. He's always been kind and caring to her, this was the one time he snapped after being stressed, sleep deprived, collecting evidence, had to worry about his report, cleaning her apartment, etc. She even calls for 'Big Brother Toma' to help her when he pinned her down, and he snaps out of it, making both of them realize that this isn't him, it's the worst version of him Again, this isn't to say don't forgive a person like Toma irl just because you're a 'kind-hearted person', but it's not completely incomprehensible the MC was able to forgive him If it makes you feel any better, Toma does get his comeuppances in Later + Crowd

The last bad ending was creepy AF. Like, damn. Toma has some serious control and jealousy issues. I honestly never really liked his character, he seemed too overbearing in my opinion, and he treated the heroine as if she could not make decisions for herself, or defend herself. Shin was loads better than Toma. Yeah, he could be a little harsh and abrasive, but he didn't smother the heroine, and gave her freedom and unwavering loyalty. Kent was another character that I liked because he actually listened to the heroine, and made attempts to help her, instead of just assuming that their relationship was a lost cause because of her memory loss. He even believed the heroine about Orion's existence, too. Both Shin and Kent also allowed the heroine to make her own decisions throughout their routes, and in the actual anime. Ikki wasn't a bad character either- he acted like a womanizer in order to hide his softer, insecure personality. He also genuinely cared for the heroine, and would do anything to protect her, but never did anything outlandish like Toma. Ukyo was also a very well-rounded character, and he had an actual reason to develop his more savage, murderous, split personality. Going through constant death loops, and watching the heroine die either by his very hands, or by fate in each of the alternative worlds they were in took a great toll on Ukyo's sanity. Ukyo also experienced his death in violent ways in each of the time loops as well. Also, thank god the heroine has Orion to look out for her; he's so reassuring. I wonder if there was something specific that happened to Toma earlier in his life that would create his controlling, jealous, and smothering personality. I mean, first, he kept her hostage at his damn house and drugged her with sleeping pills, THEN he locked her in a freaking *CAGE.* The last ending was not "cute" in any way, shape, or form. Toma has managed to do messed-up things in every other characters' route as well. Apparently to some people, a smothering, overbearing, jealous, and controlling boyfriend who keeps his girlfriend hostage, drugs her, and locks her in a cage like an animal is "cute". And, it's scary because some guys out there are actually sick and twisted like this.
