Just to be clear guys, as I didn't mention it in the film: THIS IS NOT A PAID OR SPONSORED REVIEW IN ANY WAY. I purchased the mattress with my own cash and this is my honest review of the product.

Great video. An idea would be to set up a buddy scheme for two people needing to order this mat in the same area to avoid the extra cost.
@WildAstro2 жыл бұрын
Excellent idea mate. Although, so far I only know 2 other people who have ordered one!

@@WildAstro These mats are great high end but for the amount of use I couldn't justify the cost. I have been looking at the Exped downmat M5 which is on sale at the moment for £88 which is top of my budget. I just wish that Trekology would get there act together and make an UL80 winter edition. If it was reliable and had an r value for around 5 they could easily charge double the price of a standard UL80.
@WildAstro2 жыл бұрын
@@dougdixonhull I’ve said that from the start mate. It’s the “reliable” part that I would be concerned about.

nice mat. I need new mat for winter here in the alps. Have you consider STS Ether Light XT Extreme before Amok? Now I saw your video about Amok I do not know which one to buy. Im a stomach and a side sleeper. I also have Soulo and size of the Amok seems perfect.
@WildAstro3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, I looked at the STS but chose the Amok purely on price and thickness.
@bbbikingggggnnooobbbbb6522 жыл бұрын
Awesome, I also have one of the XL ones, definitely made by Exped for Amok you can clearly tell, I however rock a Sea to Summit Ether light xt, I’m happy to say way way more comfortable

Thank you, I bought the 5.0 xl and didn't get the pad with it. I also thought that, I have several pads ,so why should I buy one more? Stupid mistake! 🤭🤗 Hope the shipping cost barrier are different to holland. I got mine in + - 14 day's!👍🏻

Hopefully you won’t mate, I know a lot of people have ended up that way, but some are still going strong!

Interest mat Rich and it has some impressive stats too. Hopefully it'll keep you warm and comfy through the winter months. ATB Andy

Very fair and informative Richie. As it happens I'm looking for a good winter mat and the Amok sounded perfect.....until the weight was mentioned! Ah well back to the drawing board! 👍👍👍
@WildAstro3 жыл бұрын
Not sure it would fit your tent either Anthony. Can’t remember what the model is but pretty sure it’s a little shorter than 220cm?
@adamtoutdoors63903 жыл бұрын
Looking great that mat mate. Firs in your tent too which is good for the length of the mat. Nice video matey ATB Adam 🤜💙🤛

Yeah, perfect fit for the Soulo. Not sure about the Lanshan yet but don’t think it’s going to fit in there 🤣

Just received mine today and set up with my big agnes sleep bag wich holds the sleeping padlike a mattress topper.Cant believe how comfortable and warm this pad is in all positions.Feel like I'm on a bed and I am a restless 240 pound guy that don't get comfy easy.

That’s great to hear mate! Glad you’re loving it!

Hi Rich, As soon as I saw the size of that Xtherm mat I thought it was the large wide version, then you said the weight, which confirmed it. The weight on the regular mat is only 430g. Something else to consider, given that some of these mats will fail at some point, is the warranty. Thermarest have a lifetime warranty, which in my opinion is worth the extra few quid to have peace of mind if it goes pop.
@WildAstro3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. Yes, I realised my error during the editing process but forgot to put a graphic on screen explaining myself. Thanks for noticing. The Amok does have a warranty, I’ll dig out the details and share them in a future film. 👍🏼

Thanks for the video I’ll keep a eye on how you get on with it as am after winter Matt and am side sleeper have ul80 and go’s down it’s not new one
@clarewheatley65143 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for this Rich. I have the UL80 and has been very comfortable for my 1st two sleeps. Would be nice to carry less weight in colder weather. I have made a radiator foil underlay so an insulated sleep mat would work. Even with the Amok's weight
@WildAstro3 жыл бұрын
It’s a great mat Clare. Especially if you don’t have to carry it far.

Thanks mate all good info. To be honest I do more thinking and talking about winter camping, rather than actually going! More food for thought here! BTW a nice bit of Rubik cubing at the beginning there. I'm trying to get my solving time under 2 mins but can't quite manage it⏳
@WildAstro3 жыл бұрын
Winter camping was an absolute game changer for me last December mate and I can’t wait to go chasing the white stuff around the mountains again. I’m just under 2 mins at the moment but haven’t timed myself for a couple of weeks. Will update soon! 🤣

Looking at mat, did you consider Exped mats which I use without import issues
@WildAstro3 жыл бұрын
I did indeed mate. I think the price difference for the top-end Exped was what swung it in the end for me.
@andyholtorp3 жыл бұрын
Nice video - I am a big Exped mat fan and this looks similar. Is 220 cm not too long for many popular tents though? It would be pushing the sides out at least.
@WildAstro3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, yes, it’s probably pretty long for most tents but fortunately it fits perfectly in my Soulo, and there is a shorter version available which is just under 2m long.

Nice review buddy… and one that might have triggered a new purchase for me to add to my UL80 mat i use in the warmer weather….Except not too long ago i sunk some cash on the sea to summit ether light extreme. My mrs might not be happy if i got another ‘spare’ mat. 🤪 Take care. Mark

🤣😂 yeah, I’ve reached the point where I have to justify purchases now, I’ve got so much gear. Always great to hear from you pal and a massive thanks for the donation via BuyMeACoffee, it’s hugely encouraging to have supporters like yourself on board and I’m truly grateful. Stay safe mate, see you soon!

Nice mat - I'm sorta looking for a mat for the colder nights and this could be an option (even more so as I'm EU based). Cheers! I was wondering when you'd knock that mug over :D Tiny bit of feedback: Your mike level is way lower than the intro music. Had to adjust the volume. Also, the underlaying music while talking is sadly making it harder to hear what you say.
@WildAstro3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael, I am prone to leaving music too loud at times so my apologies. Also, huge thanks for your donation via BuyMeACoffee, it is massively appreciated.

Just a suggestion...if it's a sponsored vid maybe say so and if it isn't, definitely say so...really appreciate it when people review gear they paid for and really hate it when they review gear they got for free and don't say so.

Fair comment, great advice. Definitely not a sponsored review, I bought it myself and really do love it!
