What's interesting about the show, is they act like they didn't know Christian ways or anything. In fact they did, hence why so many monks were killed, and monestarys raided because chritians were trying to spread their faith in the north but did what they usually do....rape, murder and destroy so this is all revenge killings by the Vikings.

they became christians mostly by the sword and persuasion of gold. Many cared little for the christ god, and instead did it for the money, and still went about practicing paganism. Which is my theory on why the viking age started, it was due to the emperor Charlemagne killing the saxon people and cutting down irminsul. The danes and Jutes broke the treaty with him and raids started. It was revenge for what befell their pagan brothers, hence why churches were targeted. It was the last stand against christianity,

True and not true. The Saxons truly fought until they were conquered{The Verdict of Verden, The destruction of Irminsul and eventually the conquest of the last Saxon Kingdom followed by the conquest of the Frisians which was repelled up until the death of King Radboud who refused to become a Christian, the legend tells us this was because the Christians said his ancestors had gone to hell and he'd rather join them there if that was the case.}, the same can be said of the Danes{Angles, Geats and Jutes}, however the rest of Scandinavia was Christianized without much violence or at least without the scale of violence with which the Saxons were "converted" largely due to the conversion of kings, as such betrayal.

Though a big fan of the band, the series and the paganism in general, I cant help but think that what is depicted in these scenes is not only not "viking" but not manly either. If paganism standed for cutting down unarmed men thae I'd have stayed Christian. Ragnar himself killed noone in that epizode, he even saved one and took him as a "slave". Dont forget that this was done to build a character that is wise instead of savage and bloodthirsty. You are not supposed to enjoy the scene. We pagans protect the weak, dont feed on them.

hate christianity as much as you want, but those monks were the closest thing to scientists that europe had. any attack on them is - ultimately - setting back science, potentially decades or even centuries. the destruction of the medical and scientific knowledge in these monasteries was a disaster for humanity.
@ЫгыгыгГыгыгович Жыл бұрын
no, "please god save this human from sickness" is not medical knowledge
@Dadutta Жыл бұрын
@@ЫгыгыгГыгыгович Many people went into monasteries against their will. Many may not even have believed in god. Read about Albertus Magnus, Roger Bacon, Nicolas d'Oresme. Also read about Gerbert de Aurilac (inventor of the first mechanical clock and the reason we use decimal system instead of Roman numbers today). They were the scientists of the time, it's just a historical fact.
