"The idea that everything needs to be just right is a procrastination strategy" Amon calling me out directly
@GhostyToasty272 жыл бұрын
"It's taken me about 20 years to achieve this level of imperfection" is something all creative people need to think deeply about. I've been working as a writer for 2 years now, and there's something so profound about embracing imperfection and treating it like a wave you surf rather than a wall you try to climb over.

David Lynch should make your biography movie Amon. We need more movies about musicians that include a lot of time during work. The whole music making experience is much better than just listening to it and no director can translate this better into the movie than D.Lynch.

I cant believe that virtually I could get into his place of creation :-) One nigh in Toronto in year 2000 in a party I heard a song which changed my imagination of music. The guys said it was Amon Tobin....in the next 10-15 years I literally stopped listening anything else but his music. Lol. That music is exactly the same what I imagine inside me. Thansk a lot!

I just went back to listening to Cujo - Adventures In Foam. And it's only just occurred to me, how f****** good the intro track is (especially on headphones with the changing panning), when you bear in mind, this is the very first track on Amon's very first album. Sounds like his music much later down the line. And this is 1996. Forget about equipment for a minute, and just listen to Amon's creativity. THIS is why Amon is my favourite artist PERIOD.

That was truth. Imagine all the great music that would never have been made if the creators were preoccupied with chasing the perfect kit or the perfect room. Know your room's weaknesses and get a good pair of headphones to help you with the blind spots. I just picked up the Audeze LCD-1; remarkable to mix on, especially after some corrective EQ to bring them closer to the LCD-X (check Scan Pro Audio's review of the LCD-1 for EQ settings). Excellent monitoring for £400. Blows my Beyerdynamic DT990 out of the water.

This is an awesome concept. Thank you for doing this, and the mention of unconscious procrastination with an inevitable tie to "perfectionism" is something that people don't often mention. It's a big obstacle for a lot of people that want to do quality work with integrity, yet a hurdle that prevents many good artists from releasing material. Thanks again! P.S. Neumann speaker upgrade from the Klein & Hummels, and traded the API 2500 for the Neve Portico?

I think the best one is actually Figueroa. Before that one I would have been of your opinion, exactly those ones. But all the late Nomark stuff is fantastic. Only Child Tyrant/Two Fingers and, again, Figueroa, which is the album that fascinated me the most over years... likely more than a decade. I mean just the songwriting alone is godly. An then there's the sound.
