Yes, it’s a tribute, but it’s also colored by their very complicated relationship. If I recall, he felt rejected by her all his life, so I think he’s grieving the loss not only of his mother, but of the mother he wished he had had. At least that’s my take.

Nice reaction Emma 😊. I loved the "chugging" Mariachi guitar all the way through the song. Simple rhythm, but just works nice against the powerful singing 👍. A similar sounding song I can think of is Bobby Goldsboro, Honey I Miss you, although the singing isn't quite as powerful, but its a lovely song to listen to 👍😊
