When I was 30 I was successful, handsome and good in sports. Then a huge skydiving accident turned my life around. At first I thought I’d kill myself; the outlook was so dismal, compared to what I had... but then, like magic, after 2nor w months you reset and start appreciating whatever little accomplishments you make. After 4 to 6 months you are completely adapted even to such a life altering event. I have recovered and live an active life, have a beautiful family and are mostly very happy. Whatever happens, take it serenely, be it good or bad. It is not as good as it seems nor as bad.

I had a great psychologist once ... the best I’d found to help me deal with panic attacks. Anyone who’s ever had one knows that the sufferer can think they’re having, or will have, a heart attack. After a couple of years of panic and a few trips to emerg to get hooked up to heart shit and okayed I found this guy. In two talks he introduced me to this idea (metaphorically, without even mentioning stoicism) "Worried about your heart when this happens, are ya?” Yup. “If you have a heart attack, what happens?” Um ... I die. “So? Why are you worried? You’ll be dead” "Everyone else is affected - not you. You’re not even here” “Next time it happens, go running. Fast - and try to have a heart attack. You won’t be able to make it happen, and if it does, it was lovely to meet you” I NEVER had another panic attack and that was .... oh fuck ... thirty years ago. Great video. Good lesson.

My new favorite KZbin channel. I am in a very challenging stage in my life and am learning to be more stoic. My dad was a tough, yet wise and gentle WWII veteran. The most stoic man I have ever known. He taught me much. But somewhere along the way and into my 50s I lost my way. Became very anxious and depressed. Now I am fighting back with stoicism and other valuable teachings. Thank you for being a part of my journey!

My understanding: Worry is of the anxious self as you try to control your fate. This worrying takes you out of the present moment burdening you with unnecessary stress and anxiety. Accept fate and make the best of it, everything has a plus side. You may lose something but later on get something betters! You don’t know so why worry? Try your best in the present moment that is what truly matters.

I have always had anxiety with my future. I used to wast many hours lying awake at night thinking about how to survive being laid off, or a natural disaster or an apocalypse. There is only so much a person can control. It finally dawned on me that I was wasting so much time and energy trying to control my future. I still worry and I still plan for the "just in case" but I no longer obsess over it. When I start to feel those future anxiety feelings creep up, I quickly reach for Stoic teachings.

Hmmm.. Very interesting and insightful. This is so far one of the greatest remedies for all the problems that you face in your life. The most important thing is to know that you have given all you had, to the person, to your goal, to a specific thing that you find good for you. But if, along the way, you experience heartbreak and turmoil and adversity, its easy to break free. Remembering that you gave your all and still something didnt work out is a great thing in its true essences. When we realize that we tried, and that some things are just out of out control, only then will we be truly satisfied.

Wow, I just found your videos and they are so insightful. I have been using the amor fati type of mentality without realising - this is a personal story, I lost a baby only a few months ago and am dealing with grief and loss. However I could not find that “it’ll be ok” or “awww poor you” mindset of others was helpful. Accepting fate and dealing with what is, however painful, has been the only way forward for me. It’s similar to a concept I learned called “radical acceptance”, look into this if you haven’t already! Great videos.
