The first 3 albums were so good tech/melo death. Then they got a new singer from an Idols competition and their fan base split up.

The whole Reptile Ride album is great. As you said, it's a mix of many different sub genres. melo-death, thrash, tech death, some power metal as well. And it all works together seamlessly. It's a gem.

Reptile Ride is amazing album. One of my alltime favourites. Rarely is seen such an album with so many good songs that all sound different.

Thanks whoever requested this. I even have their album, but totally have forgotten them. What a trip to a memory lane. And of course A&P for the reaction. Commentary was something that I hadn't thought of...maybe leave Nickelback behind.

That original group was always trying to swim against the main stream. They actually changed styles quite a lot across their first 3 albums. The style change within those albums is much more subtle than what came after. They didn't like being like anybody else, that's why they were constantly trying to evolve and got bored with their material to a point they changed genres altogether. Their original vocalist quit and went back to school. Their original rhythm guitarist quit after the fourth album too and basically quit playing guitar completely. They acquired a "power metal vocalist" and started doing way way softer stuff. The newer stuff really isn't as bad as some people suggest. It's the controversial vocalist that really rubbed people the wrong way. He was a former Idols contestant Ari Koivunen. I was at the "funeral" in 2017. It was held at Tavastia - a legendary live music club in downtown Helsinki. They invited all the former band members to join them and the gig was absolutely amazing - especially when the original group played songs from the first 3 albums. Amoral is definitely one of my favorite bands from the early 2000's. Well their first 3 albums that is. I still haven't quite gotten over the fact that they basically became a totally different band. They should've changed their name to be honest. In the perfect world, that Amoral with the original roster would still be playing today and be a lot bigger band. They had a shit ton of potential and were just starting make a name for themselves, touring across Europe etc.

Reptile Ride is an amazing album. That said even though Melodic Death Metal is my favourite genre I think my favourite Amoral album is Fallen Leaves & Dead Sparrows. It's very good progressive metal... That album has one of my all time favourite guitar solos in a ballad called See This Through...

it would be amazing if you'd react / review my friend's band's album that they've just released - Starborn Savage Peace.

IMO they went downhill after changing the lead singer in 2008. Basically from death metal to melodic with clean vocals. People were upset of this and burned their Amoral t-shirts on youtube etc.

There's some great guitar playing here, but overall as a song it doesn't really capture me.
