Amorphis is a band I recently discovered with their song "Death of a King." Their newer work has turned from death metal to progressive folk metal, giving them a softer, mellower sound. They frequently use the Kalevala, the epic poem of Finland, as a source for their lyrics. I love their lyrics and the intricate stories they tell. Amorphis is a "bucket list" band to see live!! This album was released during Covid, so there are no music videos.They have been over 30 yrs on top of the Metal-genre. Although during those years they have explored so many aspects in Metal Music, that you`ll never get bored with them. Amorphis is and has been the main "Special guest" for Nightwish for so many years. Best regards from Finland! Ps. On this album they have many songs about "Kalevala" - the Finnish ancient Mythology and characters and stories from it. So you may not understand the real meaning/lyrics of the song. Like the most reacted song "the Bee", you will not understand anything with out knowing the "Kalevala" story behind it.

Amorphis is a veteran band with very skilled guys, have been on the top of Finnish metal bands for a long time. Who is the giant? Inspiration for their music comes from the ancient Finnish oral tradition. There is this huge cache, over 100 000 runos (sung poems), 32 books, the largest poem collection in the world. Its stories are from Stone Age to late Iron Age, but the runo measure was born earliest in the Bronze Age. They started to collect in the early 19th century when this oral tradition was already disappering. The national epic, Kalevala, includes only 50 runos, totalling 22 795 verses. There's over 60 000 collected runos that are still unpublished. The published collection was brought into Internet a few years back. It's an endless source for musicians and other artists.

Great band, great reaction. If you wish good live performance from Amorphis take either "Sampo" or "Towards and Against" from "Forging a Land Of Thousand Lakes" DVD. Those good as live starters. You will also find the answers about vocalist(s) there 🙂

Hello you two . I would like to recommend ' Glen Hansard ' to you . He makes music inspired by Irish folk music , is a giant on acoustic guitar and vocals . With Feeling , strength , emotions he transports in his own human and soulful way . Personally, I always enjoy watching his appearance on the 'Letterman Show' (it's also on KZbin, like many of his other appearances). I would be very happy if you chose a song and commented on it. If you enjoyed the soundscape they have more complex ones as well. Band has been recording around 30 years and records go from raw death metal to this more easy stuff. This being maybe on the mellow end of the album it's on.
