I find it ironic that no TV corporations would touch this show with its reputation and yet KZbin has no trouble playing ads in front of it.

If there are any racial connotations to this show, I'll eat my shirt. All I see and hear is great comedy about the human condition, black or white. Still hold up after 60 years.

Some stereotypes, but most shows even today still do that. I don't know what the NAACP wanted back then, but it seems to me they wasted the talents of all these actors when they were very pioneering.

Racist???? Everybody I see in streets are neatly dressed, all other than the main characters are well spoken, intelligent people. Racist only in the Eyes of the true, Racists...NAACP and Sharptons Ilk...comedy at it's best...

The sound effect they used a couple of different times in this episode for the flock of turkeys was also used many, many times in sci-fi shows and films. It was used in submarine scenes, as laboratory equipment sounds and all types of different things.

Was sapphire ever happy? She fussed and fussed and fussed!
@maldijaili67993 жыл бұрын
@ Kimberly Gray. Hello, In character, no I don't think she was happy. She could also holler and holler, criticize, put down, find fault, put relatives above her husband and was not a good example of what a wife ought to be toward her husband as an example in the community and not appreciative of his kindness. She was only nice sometimes when she wanted something. She should have been more supportive, encouraging, not talking harshly and a good example to the other women in the community. I have only scratched the surface here but it was all throughout the episodes. 0h, I know it is a comedy, my favorite and an excellent one which I enjoy immensely except the two women's characters (wife & m-i-l) which are over the top almost every time they appear in an episode. And I know that the root of good comedy from dysfunctional and faulty characters. So George not keeping a job was a part of that but the women's roles could have been toned down a whole lot more. One last thing-------George was always calling his wife by terms of endearment (honey, sweetheart, etc.). But she almost always only called him George.!! And finally, I thought Ernestine Wade had a beautiful voice. I loved to hear her sing what little bit she got to sing in the episodes. And I loved Tim Moore's voice also. I wish they could have recorded either singles or duets for purchase. Thank you.
