Lilian Randolph who played madame queen was the younger sister of Amanda Randolph who played sapphire's mother. She did the voice of the owner of tom in the tom & jerry cartoons.

Thumbs up to Johnny Lee,...'Calhoun da Lawya'. My favorite,...always bailing out da Kingfish. Started watching in '54 at age 5 and loved it....was confused at first but loved the humor, storyline, characters,...some great writing.

The person playing the part of Edward Mason was Roy Glenn, best known in the movie: _Guess Who's Coming To Dinner_ where he played the part of Mr. Prentice, the father to Sydney Poitier's character of John Prentice.

@@smoothoperator7023 another parallel to Sanford and Son, Esther and Donna were sisters. Redd Foxx was a student and admirer of Tim Moore. Although Sanford and Son was a line for line copy of the British show, Steptoe and son, Sanford borrowed a lot from Amos and Andy in later episodes. Replace Saphire with Lamont, Amos with officer Smitty and Andy with Grady and there it is. Reverend Tremble on S and Son was played by Amos, Alvin Childress.

That engagement ring for $250 back then would equal around $2.5 K in 2020 dollars. And the $75 cigarette lighter would be over $700 in today's value. Remarkable they had that kind of money to toss around at the time.

The dialogue between Andy and Madame Queen really displays how _forgiving_ the English language can be. Andy's grammar usage is atrocious, but he can still be understood. I've been told by individuals that when they learned English as a second language, they appreciated how forgiving it was with grammar use, as if they were to use improper grammar in their native language, they could not be understood.

Great writers, great cast. I wonder if the NAACP ever regretted being pressured to get the ax out on the show. The cast probably lost out on income from the foolish decision to remove this "racist" show.
