Hiking and hunting the hills and volcanoes of Central America in the 80’s and 90’s gave Amós Rodriguez a foundation for his ancestral skills life’s practice. Growing up in the context of the U.S. financed civil war in El Salvador increased his urban and wilderness survival and awareness skills; both of which are essential for striving in our modern society.
During the post-war period, Amós assisted rural communities devastated by the violence. These experiences increased his humanism and highlighted the need to be an advocate for secured and regenerative communities.
Amós has been perfecting his craft as a hunter and primitive skills practitioner over the years. He is a humanist, an artist, and a guide. His life intention is to build a better future for the next seven generations.

Great video brother. I can't wait to see your next videos an what you decide to make from it. A waterproof poncho is a good choice for me, but I say that all the time. That way when you are hunting the poncho will cover the weapon an keep it dry and clean an you have arm holes that lets you get both of your arms out quickly and grab your weapon to get your game. Also if you have smaller pieces of the hide then you can add pockets on inside of the poncho and you can secure the flap on it also if you want.

That hide looks so nice! I'd love to wear clothing made with that. Like a winter jacket and hat. Maybe with a wool lining! It's a shame so many clothes are made of plastic and so much hide is wasted in the world these days, especially when you consider how much hide there is from the meat industry.

I tan Elk, Moose n Buffali hides too. I enjoy your video. For smoking in the city, I use hardwood barbecue briquettes instead of making a fire. I light them same as usual and wait for the Flames to go away. Then I put my hide, same as u, over the pot of coals, and periodically check and throw in punk wood, like u. Your hide looks awesome. I try for at least 10 hides a year myself. U inspire me☆☆☆☆

Nice! I've done deer and other smaller critters from the south Texas / Northeastern Mexico brush. After fleshing and scraping, I soak the hide for a month in water with bark from oak tree, mesquite, or black bruch, which is loaded with tanic acid. Then you stretch it to soften it.

Nice work man. I've done deer hides, but the elk really is a lot bigger. You did a nice job and it looks great. One thing you can do is instead of brains is also to use Neetsfoot oil. It does the softening even quicker than brains. Also, if you pan fry your brains for a few it will help the oils release better and take a bit less. ;)
