Ampeak 6v / 12v Battery Charger Review

Ampeak asked me to take a look that their 6v / 12v battery charger. This video demonstrates the charging of a 50ah Lifepo4 battery. I also wanted to see if this charger could "wake up" a completely dead lifepo4 battery.

Just starting to dabble in solar set up and bought a 12v 100ah battery and then a 100watt HF solar kit to learn with. Looking for a charger, seems that one is a no.

cool, i actually found a dewalt version of something like this, but it looked like it was in a fire, left in an alley, couldnt make out what happened, i figured whatever was on the jumpers melted and got fried, there was all this melted wire and metal , but the jumpers were still intact with no damage.... ahh the plug , whatever the AC powerchoard was plugged into got burned, strange The unit itself had some melting but it looked like it came from the outside so I had some hope. So after soldereding a new chord onto it, thinking it would blow up , it turned on fine. So whatever it was plugged into took all the damage caught on fire / electrocuded but the electronics in this unit remained fine. Impressive. Well i hooked it up to a 12v battery that was toast and turned on the conditioning pulse thing for 24 hours, didnt do anything to increase the capacity... but i did see the pulsing on a handheld oscilliscope, so it was working, probably needed more time, but i had better luck refelling sealed lead acids with disstilled water and just charging it for with16v or a bit higher. Thats enough to start cooking the sulphur off apparnetly but not a safe way to do it. Always wanted a pulser and i found one! But yeah not a mircal worker. Yeah id kind of watch it with that smell, you never know. The unit might be able to take the heat but the thing its plugged into might not.

Look it runs hot if you're at high amperage if you charge at a lower amp rate than 15 it won't get as hot at 2 amps it won't get anywhere near as hot

You're right, but my other battery chargers don't get anywhere near this hot when running at full power. Thanks for the comment.

I have a 3 y/o lead acid dead battery. I bought my first brand new charger and when I first charged it, the battery capacity was at 90%. After charging it I reconditioned it. My reconditioning is on day 4 and has not been completed. Reconditioning takes anywhere from 4+ hrs to 3 days, but mine went beyond that. I don’t know why it’s taking so long. I thought something must not be right so I stopped the process. Also, should the fan/motor from the charger be running while reconditioning? Mine was quiet while reconditioning, but the fan came on and off while charging. Do you know what’s would be wrong?

I would check the voltage while it's reconditioning to see if it's fluctuating up to 15v. It might not be working correctly.
