In this video I test and teardown the new Amped Outdoors 20Ah LiFeP04 Lithium Battery. If you are looking for a drop in replacement battery for Garmin Live Scope, I think this could be a great option.

I just researched the heck out of LiFePO4 batteries for my 18’ sailboat power system. I do 2-5 day trips and need power for led nav lights, phone charging and keeping handheld VHF charged. I ordered the Amped 20ah and Renogy 50w solar kit. I have 2x 12v 4.5ah and a 9.0v 3.0ah Bioennos for ham radio from mountain tops probably over 200x and they have worked flawlessly. I went with Amoed due to lower cost verse a Bioenno 20ah.

Thanks for the reviews. The silicone on the inner leads might give some insulation in my mid instead of having open leads. JMO.

The thing that comes to mind on the caulk on the inside of the battery terminals is keeping moisture from getting in through there

Because they're heating up the case where the terminals go through it melts the case a little bit potentially could leak

The calk on the bottom of the terminals are a last measure for short circuit In case the battery pack inside the case moves and punctures the shrink wrap. This will in hopes of preventing the battery to short itself out internaly

Bussssit open!! Yaasssss.. Really been a fan of Amped as well. I think Dakota Lithium and some of the other company needs to figure out their prices and innovation pretty soon. Cheap batteries bringing down that price gotta love it 👍🏻

I wish this was out a few weeks ago. Probably would lhave gone with this instead of the 2-12's I put in my battery box build. But think they will be a good set up too just cost an extra $40 for 4 hours that I may never use.

I think the taped down wires reduces vibration so probably not an issue.... However, as a side note. I haven't noticed you talking much about low temp cut off sensor location on the cells. I think you might want a sensor on the outside batteries AND touching a cell in the middle of the pack because if you have been on the ice all day the pack will be completely frozen and the innermost cells will be the last to thaw in the battery case. So an inner sensor may keep the pack from charging too soon. They might simply be able to adjust the acceptable internal temp on the BMS to compensate but I'm not sure how well that would work with really cold batteries. Just thinking out loud ;-)

If you could show a close up picture of one cell and any information like size (18650) amp (3500 mAh) manufacture (samsung) This would be important to me as the pack can only be as good as its cells. Thank you for you educational videos

My guess for the caulk on the solder is to control those solder whiskers that form after say 5 years, these things can wreak havoc on electronics of they break loose and short something on a PCB so keeping them confined to the little ball of caulk probably just protects the BMS down the road. IIRC this isnt even related to corrosion and more like the processes involved with mercury eating through aliuminum/aluminium

I had one fail and then the replacement failed. Using their charger, will charge to 13.6v idle and then drops to 13.0v after less than 0.300Ah draw @ max of 2.66A. Down to 30% after less than 15 minutes of usage. My two were just an AliBaba KMD-4S20 with their name slapped on the side. Didn't even try to hide the original battery model number! Ali is notorious for selling used and 2nds. Steer clear of these IMHO.

Seems like a very high price for the capacity you're getting. I know it's about form factor, particularly for kayak users, but for any larger type of boat you'd be way further ahead to get one of the 100AH batteries that are selling in the ~$275 - $350 range. You get 5 times as much battery for around 3 times the price, and not a whole lot more weight to worry about.

You're not wrong, but a lot of guys are running these smaller batteries independent of their trolling motors and stuffing them in the rod lockers. This size will also be ideal for ice fisherman. This battery was 4.5 lbs or so, that last 100Ah that I tore down was 24lbs

@@iceholepower8012 - I am right there with you. I'm using a repurposed, 12v, LiFePO4 battery from a medical device that cost me $45. I use it exclusively for my electronics and it still has around 18.5AH out of the original 21AH, which you noted is plenty for days of fishing. It also weighs around 5lbs, which makes it very easy to remove for charging. All I did was connect an XT30 to the leads on it, so my on-board smart charger can plug into it after my trolling motor batteries are charged up.

Why can't you use then in series? 4 of these at 12v each will give me 48V and the same 20AH which let's say my scooter or ebike is a 48v 12AH it will work... But if you parallel them, then yes, that's not going to work, since it will only be 12V 80AH, if the scooter/ebike is 48v obviously 12V won't cut it.
