Thanks for this review! Beautiful portraiture! I’m learning pastels and the instructor recommends sanded paper like UArt & PastelMat, and I have some, but I like a hard surface to start with so Pastelbord might be the best for my preferences. I bought one that Im gonna try out! Thanks again.

I really like your artistic style. I am a portrait artist myself and I got into the Ampersand panels shortly after learning pastels. I have had instances where the panels have certain areas that don’t allow me to layer. It is very frustrating and most of the time I have to obtain another panel and start the piece all over again. I am currently working on a commission and having the same problem. I have a call in to technical support at Ampersand about it. I don’t like to use fixative on my work. I am going to try to sand the area with sandpaper to give the area more tooth and see if that will allow me to layer in that area. Ty for your video.

Not sure whether you tried it, but you might like Pastelmat. It has very nice texture for realistic pastel painting, and also more affordable than Pastelboard. Nupastels and other brands work really well with it.
@TanaeBriana6 жыл бұрын
Does it have a grainy texture too?
@alexproschitsky18186 жыл бұрын
It has a velvety texture and takes many layers of pastel, much more than canson paper. Please check KZbin or Instagram for some examples. :)

Do you use fixatives with the pastels on the Pastelbord? If so, how did it work out? Do you frame them behind glass?
@TanaeBriana3 жыл бұрын
Noooooo never ever. Made that mistake with my first ever pastel painting lol. I just cover them in acid-free glassine paper until I'm ready to frame/ship them. And yes, I frame behind glass

Okay, so this is really strange. I'm a pastel painter and I started watching this video and realised you are the same KZbinr that convinced me to stop eating dairy for my hellish cramps and pms/pmdd. Thank you so much! You changed my life forever. What are the chances that we both had that problem and we're pastel painters? Small world! 💓

@TanaeBriana4 жыл бұрын
Really? I honestly dont know :/ I've never had that problem. The pastel just doesnt even go onto the bord?

I painted over the blank spots with acrylic paint. I think I can save it

@@kimberlymulivrana3617 it might just be the brand of pastels you're using 🤔 or your technique, Im not really sure

Tanaé Briana Thank you so much for responding to my questions I appreciate it very mus. Your work is so beautiful. I think my problem was the pastel pencils that I was using for detail were too hard and they scratched bits of the grain off the bord. So I guess this answers my questions about the oil pencils. I’m still going to give it a try. Ill let you know how it turns out. Thank you again for your kind response

I have another question, if you don’t mind I am getting oil pencils tomorrow, my question is can I use them on pastelbord?
@TanaeBriana4 жыл бұрын
Not sure since I've never used oil pencils before.....but it wont hurt to try
@danabrown83834 жыл бұрын
Hi! You can (you may have tried this already) but a "less toothy" surface, like Ampersand Encausticbord may work better for you. Thanks!

Do you spray fixative on the finished piece?
@TanaeBriana4 жыл бұрын
Nope, fixative messes up the colors and doesnt really prevent the pastel from spreading anyway. So I just wrap my pieces in acid-free glassine sheets til they can be framed
@quint72274 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I wasn’t sure about that and using pastelbord. Do you frame them with glass over them?
@TanaeBriana4 жыл бұрын
@@quint7227 yes. I used to use frame spacers because of the whole thing about the pastel falling off and getting on the glass, but I realized I dont have that problem since the pastel sticks to pastelbord so well. Nothing ever falls off

are you going back to color pencils though? I feel color pencil is better in terms of selling originals

+bengurl I am gonna be working on some color pencil stuff, but the only thing that's better about is I don't have to frame them and I can roll em up when I ship them
