Words cannot describe how much Amphibia has meant to me personally for the past year and a half or so. My journey with this show began after starting The Owl House so I can be part of the zeitgeist the show culminated around that time. Whilst watching TOH I decided to watch it's seemingly less popular sister show alongside it. Never in a thousand years did imagine that the silly frog show that was more or less a B show to the more talked about Owl House would have such a big impact on me. And I certainly never thought that I would get so emotional when it all came to an end. Thanks FF for this essay, for capturing the essence of what made this show so special.

Nice to hear from a fellow adult fan of this show. Amphibia hit me hard, especially because of the timing of it. I turn to cartoons for comfort, and was binging this show shortly after my best friend received a terminal diagnosis. I related a little too hard to the pain of facing permanent separation from someone you can’t imagine living without. I can’t count how many times I broke down into tears watching this show (and once more watching your video) but it was cathartic and healing every time. Your analysis was beautiful. Well done.

It's just such a refreshing joy to hear someone praising the show as it deserves, noticing the nuances, acknowledging the individual boarders work, and making cultured references and callbacks. Personally my only real gripe about S3 was Marcy's lack of agency. I would've preferred if she was involved in some battle fo the minds with The Core. Of course not defeating it, but making it flounder for a moment to give Sasha the last minute chance for the defeating blow.

If there is one episode I would’ve liked to see in season 3 that we didn’t get, it would be a Sasha episode between Turing Point and when Anne returns. Whether this occurred in season 3A or as a flashback in season 3B, I don’t mind. What they did was fine, but I feel like adding a point where Sasha was learning to be a leader without reverting to her control freak-ness would’ve been interesting, or at least would’ve made the jump to season 3B where she leads amazingly and with little authority issues feel more realistic. Here’s how I would’ve set up the episode: Sasha and Grime are trying to make a plan for some recon (This would be chronologically early in the season so Andrias wouldn’t have destroyed Amphibia too much yet, so a full on attack would be illogical). Sasha is struggling because she wants to take charge and tell all the frogs what to do with no exceptions but keeps remembering how that turned out for her last time. Grime keeps pushing her to be firm but Sasha’s too afraid to and ends up letting the frogs essentially run wild. They’re strong and care about each other, but the Wartwood residents have never had military training or had to deal with anything like this, so the lack of strong leadership is affecting their performance. Sasha ends up snapping after some frogs are captured, and runs off. Grime confronts her and tells her that she’s the leader now so she has to take charge, maybe citing points from when he lead at Toad Tower, and the episode ends with Sasha being able to successfully lead the other frogs to go rescue the hostage. Maybe the fight/rescue can be against the herons in the finale, if to set up their presence a little at least. The frogs end the episode by telling Sasha that they’re not angry at her for taking control, in fact they needed her to, giving Sasha a confidence boost. This would not only further flesh out Sasha’s redemption arc, but also has a good lesson for the audience about how taking charge and being bossy/a jerk are not the same, and that there’s a time and place to be more firm. It’s not a super fleshed out idea, but maybe it’d make good fanfiction

Honestly YES! I would’ve loved at least 2 Sasha episodes in 3A to further flesh out her redemption arc and flesh out her character more. Cause Sasha’s personally my favorite character and I would LOVE for an episode like this to have happened a few episodes after Turning Point, I mean we certainly could’ve replaced Spider Sprig, Adventures in Catsitting or even Hollywood Hop Pop with something like this. Also we could’ve used an Sasha and Ivy episode. We’ve already seen Anne and Sprig, Marcy and Maddie had an episode so goddamnit Sasha and Ivy Could’ve been made! Ivy would be Sasha’s guide to helping her through Wartwood and her control issues.

I guess since she mostly talked about how frustrating her mom could get, her not mentioning her dad was kind of telling: she didn’t have any problems with him. He was just a cool dad.

I know it's kinda obvious in hindsight, but since I actually didn't catch that the theme of the show was "Change" until halfway through S3 I might as well say it, but I love how the Core's role fit so well to the show's theme. The Core is the anthisesis of the Show's message. The great "living" irony of being the "combined intellect of the brightest minds in Amphibia" yet so stuck in their own old ways and ambitions, that in reality they are nothing but a collection of stubborn heartless kings, refusing to let go of what they see as their status quo and in doing so, not only poisoning their entire bloodline (Andreas) and force it to never think independently from their singular ambition but also willing to destroy their entire world just to preserve that stagnant desire of control. Also completely unrelated, but isn't it funny that some time after Amphibia ended we got Sonic Frontiers which also ends with a climactic space battle against a giant sentient moon that is also an entity that has destroyed countless worlds in the name of it's own desire for absolute stagnation and has to face off against a super powered protagonist with anime powers that is usually associated with the color blue? Just sayin'

I still stand by my opinion that amphibians finale is my favorite I’ve ever seen. That could be because of how much the show in general meant me but the beauty of the finale and the pure writing of the goodbye scene and Anne’s sacrificing is so emotional but important. And the finale message is so perfect to wrap up the show that I kind of can’t be mad that it’s over .

In regards to your discussion on the tonal dissonance in Season 3, there is an interview by Matt Braly that does discuss this a little on Medium (it’s the second one, not the first one that came out). Long story short, Matt and the crew felt the need to be more light-hearted in Season 3 than they wanted to be fear our of fear of another True Colors debacle. The ending is heartwrenching, but in a way satisfying, wartwood is truly never gonna forget about Anne, now that she's a big statue in the middle of the town, and Anne will forever remember the plantars through her job, it's bittersweet that they'll never get to see each other again, but it's also a nice thought that because they're thinking of each other, they're never truly separated

The letter Leif wrote to Andrias tells me that they were more than just friends I think they loved each other Andrias blushes and looked away during Leifs dance, the secret messages to each other, Andrias the frist to rush to Leif after she fell to her hands and knees after the vission, the worried look on his face, Leif crying into Andrias, Andrias the one that took her betrayl the hardest and his blushing tears in his eyes and scraming her name when she left, and Leif dubbing her self and "your Leif" and her calling him my derest Andrias and saying I wish my love will reach you. Also in the painting Andrias and Leif are looking at eachother and there is a art that Matt Braly did Andrias Berral and Leif are back together and they are on his sholders and Andrias and Leif are looking at eachother. There was and still is something more than just friendship between Andrias and Leif.

I've always liked the ending of this show and thought it was fitting to its themes but man... it will never not make me cry To add more to this: I never understood why people disliked that the girls drifted apart somewhat in high school. I mean, we know that they are still friends. And only because you went through something like this with someone doesn't obligate you to talk to them every day. And even though they may not be the closest of friends, I'm 100% sure all of them cherish each other with their entire hearts. Because having a special connection like that doesn't require constant contact. There's a reason people say the best friends are the ones who can go months without talking only to pick up where they left off the instant they're back together. To me, they've always been that.

The true hardest thing is reality. We all once wished a show can never end, our favorite shows like amphibia, owl house, steven universe, adventure time. Yet every time we wished. There is no response. This makes a final season watching slowly breaks you. Knowing each episode is closer to the end. Knowing our characters, our moments, our walls between fantasy and reality is gone. It's no longer a show, its change were going to face. I am so proud of Andrias he has been through so much pain his father never loved him he only wanted him to do what he and his ansestors did take over worlds and Aldrich made him believe his friends were going to use him and take advatige of him which when Leif and Berral betrayed him he belived and the Core controled him and provented him in finding happyness again but when Marcy came into his life he kinda did untill the Core wanted him to kill her but he did not want to then the Core wanted to posses her but he did not want the Core to do that to Marcy that is when he started to see that the Core his father and ancestors where bad people and he was starting to regret it he really made a change when Sprig read Leifs letter that he started to think apout all the mistakes that he made and that his friends Berral Leif and Marcy never left his side and they were always his friends and the moment where he destroyd his crown and stood up for him self is a incredable moment for him he basicly freed him self from his father and the Core and now he is no longer the King free from his fathers and the Cores control free to be his own person and free to open up his heart to love again just like he did with Leif and Berral and of corese Marcy

The when we get back to Amphibia, most of the most of the episodes before the 3 part finale are spent reintroducing past characters and more filler.

When I was watching Amphibia in Spanish, since I can understand it, I was feeling, I don't know, disappointed that the voice dubbing of Andrias wasn't the man who did the Mexican dubbing of Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog. For me, his voice is iconic as he dubs Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles and Sully from Monsters Inc., and when I hear him in Princess and the Frog, I say that he would have been perfect as King Andrias.

The only one change the Finale needed was Sasha, Anne and Marcy all married to each other in the timeskip, not just friends who drifted apart and came back together. Am I biased? Maybe. Am I correct? Also yes. (Since at this point, after all this, these three are not just regular high school friends. At the very least they should have been basically inseparable because that's the kind of bond people form in those intense situations.)

I love this show and I stand by the opinion that it is better than the owl house. Season 3 definitely has problems though. After how incredibly intense true color was, it’s very jarring to go back to the innocent like adventures of season 1. Marcy literally got stabbed and it’s never mentioned. Darcy was also incredibly underutilized and reeks of missed potential. There’s also the Continuity error in the beginning of the end of how the entire Wartwood army go to Newtopia in the span of two minutes, even though it was established in season 2 that it takes weeks to get to Newtopia from Wartwood which is a pretty big Continuity error imo. So this season definitely has its problems but show has one of the best series finale’s I have ever seen (not the best though. That is always gonna go to the good Places finale)

ok @FilmFreak i know you've probably got like 3 or 4 other multi-hour long video things planned for the forseeable future (owl house season 3 especially) but once your maybe done with those a posted and whatever i have 2 suggestions: a video on Rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles (seriously it & it's movie are so good that the show is as good as owl house & the movie, before Across the Spider-verse came out to me it was the best animated movie of all time) and secondly anything you can talk about for the movie "Spider-Man across the spider-verse" the channel schnee already analyzed & talked about elemants of it far better than i imagine a person could do so whatever you feel is leftover from or you feel you could talk "film freakly" about or just stuff u wanted said differently than his videos what ever the heck u want to talk about from spider-verse you can do it and if u so choose i will be happy because i like all of your longer videos (as in non-sh*tposts not necessarily the excruciating to make length videos)

I actually Blame Leif more then Andiras in the whole events since she went about it in the worst way possible! Basically Her taking the calamity box (especially right when she did) was probably the worse possible thing she could’ve done. Like andiras was just made king she could’ve tried to reason with him more and such. But In taking the box she not only caused a 900 year species war but she also took away like 98% of all amphibia technology sending most of the society into a dark age but she also caused her two best friends to be alone the rest of their lives and (and for barrel to die alone) and andrias to suffer and be closed off for 1,000 years!

I honestly do not get the question of "if she could return" Clearly she could. People had been working on portals already... so to me its more like 60/40 than 1:1000000 for chances. The question was power source and the story had just advanced 10 years. She living to 91 roughly means that plenty of time exists for a proper power source to be found or made. Do I believe she will have other adventures? No; I feel she would be to old for that, But her kids going to play with Sprigs kids sure I have 100% faith in that being plausible.
