Me too, it's the kind of show that comes along once in a blue moon, like The Simpsons, that I can just endlessly quote. It's such a quotable show. Wander over Yonder is a good cartoon but I'd be hard pressed to write a script about it, in the same way I probably wouldn't write a script on the new Ducktales show. I wanted to do a video on Amphibia because it made me cry. It resonated with me in a way that by the time the show wrapped up I missed the characters. I still do. Unfortunately that passion isn't quite there for Wander over Yonder despite me thinking it's a pretty good show. I don't necessarily think Amphibia is the greatest cartoon of all time or anything but I felt like I had something to say on it. If I look at another Western cartoon again myself I'd probably talk about Infinity Train or maybe Gargoyles or something no promises on that but that's where I'd lean to. I have yet to see Star Vs. - Mr_Turnabout

"Don't know how Disney allowed that." Actually, on the day this episode, True Colors, was about to premiere, it was delayed at the last minute. Apple was unaware of the delay, and leaked it on Apple. Disney premiered the episode later unedited, adding a disclaimer and a teaser to season 3.

8:50 I feel like "story based" episodes are overrated. the so called "filler" helped easing us into, not only the world of Amphibia, but also just the town they were in. Yes, a little more story centric episodes don't hurt, but without the breathing space of filler epsiodes we just couldnt explore or experience the character and setting in a much needed casual way. Take Hazbin Hotel for example, that show had basically 0 filler, it was straight up a race to a conclusion for the end of the season, we barely got time to see the details, any character dinamics explored, or see anything of the world outside or inside the hotel. TLDR: filler matters more than people are willing to admit, and I am glad you agree

@@DrearyMiddle Even though I was there waiting for the first episode of TOH months before the first episode release date I kinda predicted 70-80% of TOH just by watching the first few ep And outside of shipping of two characters the stories seems flat no major twist and turn. Maybe because it's rush but still weather it's rush or not it not my problem I only care about the outcome. Don't get me wrong it's still one of the best Disney show has ever put out, but I waited a year (I think) for the first episode and for the total summary of the series is a big disappoinment for ME.

I think its important to point out that a lot of the issues that came with Amphibia season 3 were Disney's fault and not a decision by the crew. True Colors was the first episode that Disney really messed with as they decided that they didn't think it was appropriate for Disney channel only a few days before it was supposed to air. They delayed the airing and in the few weeks between the original version getting leaked by Itunes and the official version airing, the only two things that changed were the warning at the beginning and the season 3 teaser at the end. Though we have no confirmation on this, I wouldn't be surprised if the season 3 intro hadn't been made at the time and Disney had them animate it before they would air the episode so people weren't left thinking Marcy had actually died. This would explain why they couldn't get a higher quality for the intro as they probably cared more about releasing True Colors quickly than they cared about the quality of the season 3 intro. We also know for a fact (though I can't remember exactly where this was confirmed as it was a while ago) that season 3 was originally going to have a darker tone and explore Anne's emotional issues from watching her best friend get impaled right in front of her. This didn't end up happening because Disney (especially after the True Colors situation) wouldn't let them give it that darker tone. I still think the crew did a phenomenal job with what they were given, and though season 3 had its problems, I don't want to blame them for the issues that Disney caused.

I will praise TJ Hill to high heaven for the score in Amphibia. While his work in Owl House is also top tier, I think that switching to Brad Breeck hurt the score overall (imho)

I think part of the reason I liked Marcy's betrayal in true colors was because I originally (mainly after the release of her theme song takeover) saw her as a mary sue, and normally I hate mary sue characters, what made me like her before true colors was she was simply relatable as an autistic person. But had she been the main character, I wouldn't have liked her so much. Without her betrayal, she was normally this flawless quirky perfect girl character. As someone with separation anxiety, her betrayal felt like something I likely would have done if I was in her situation, in other words, her one flaw made her more relatable, which was why I liked her so much in the beginning.

Yeah that’s perfectly fair. The age of protagonist being this straight edged, “I’m the good guy and that makes me good at everything,” era is hopefully behind us. I mean, love it or hate it but at least the Evil Superman trope has injected a bit of life back into that character. I’m not sure if you’ve read Marcy’s Journal but it does give more context to her betraying her friends, but it does also make Andrias out to be far more of a monster than the show. Still, couldn’t make me dislike him! But yes, do recommend the book. -monotiller

Marcy is... anything but flawless, so I'm quite curious how you determined that! Just in the first season you can tell she's very flawed with how oblivious she is, little to no backbone, and pretty clumsy to a dangerous extent. But that's also what makes her a great character. A Mary Sue has none of these.

WHAT A VIDEO i love this video so much i just love hearing praise for amphibia. in my opinion, amphibia is the best cartoon of all time i just love it so much 100 percent my favorite show i laughed through it i cried through it i had fun i have re-watched it 7 times i can not get enough of this show the best part of the show is the comedy and charters this is by far the funniest show I have ever seen tied with gravity falls and the charters o my i JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH their flawed in the best way they all grow into their own and my favorites are the planters and Anne they are amazing on their own but they just the best they bounce of each other so well and the ending of the hardest thing man i was crying so hard, especially at the Anne and sprig part hop pop is the funniest charter hands down i have been watching every episode from they came out all the way though and it was and is a wild ride amphibia holds so a special place in my heart Thanks for this amazing video and thanks matt for making in my opinion the best show of all time

I feel like the ending fight was more referencing Sonic Adventure 2 than anything from Zelda. Like, THe villain uses a moon sized object to crash down on it's world as a last stand, The 3/2 main characters which were sometimes hating each other get a powered up form which then they fight the moonsized thing and one of them dies and comes back to life... THis show loves Sonic

I guess it's up to you honestly. I think that for some people it legitimately is a point of contention because you just want to know what happened to the friends right? But on the other hand yeah get all the world building out of the way first so you can focus on story later. I don't know, the show's entertaining enough!

I'm excited to find someone else who likes Amphibia as much as I do! Personally, I would rank it in the top 3 for sure (the other two being Gravity Falls and Phineas and Ferb). I did not like TOH. Something about it felt a bit off, I didn't feel any sort of connection to any of the characters, and there were very few elements I actually liked. Plus I found the fandom to be toxic -- dismissive at best and outright bullies at worst. Same deal with Steven Universe. I am so glad you said what I always think when I see episode rankings: I will never understand people who dismiss an entertaining episode just because it doesn't advance the plot. My favorite episodes usually tend to be the ones that are funny, AND advance some side plot, AND give some small progress to the main plot. But ultimately, it's how I immediately feel about an episode that is the determining factor, and that's hard to put into words. In Gravity Falls' case, my favorites include Tourist Trapped, Irrational Treasure, The Deep End, Scaryoke, Blendin's Game, Northwest Mansion Mystery, The Stanchurian Candidate, Weirdmageddon 2: Escape From Reality, Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back the Falls, the final act of Gideon Rises, and the first act of Roadside Attraction. In Amphibia's case, they include Anne Theft Auto, Snow Day, A Night at the Inn, Combat Camp, The Ballad of Hopediah Plantar, Truck Stop Polly, The Sleepover to End All Sleepovers, Night Drivers, The First Temple, Battle of the Bands, Thai Feud, Fixing Frobo, Sprig's Birthday, Froggy Little Christmas, The Root of Evil, The Core and the King, Fight or Flight, All In, and the one that's just on another level, Marcy at the Gates. Season 2 was absolutely the strongest of the 3 Amphibia seasons. Each season followed a pattern that I noticed: episode 1 had the main authority figure try to lock down the kids, a mandate that was removed quicker than in real life 2020. Then the first half of the season had Anne and the Plantars adjusting to a new environment, while the second half took place mainly in Wartwood and featured a member of the Calamity Trio taking charge and working towards the goal of getting home. It all comes to a head in the finale when everything from that season comes together, and everyone's true colors come out. I would say Gravity Falls has the best mystery and the best story, Amphibia has the best worldbuilding and the most heart, and Phineas and Ferb is the most fun!

When it comes to fandoms I think it’s kind of something you just have to separate from the show itself. It can be hard, especially when you’re looking for opinions on a show but after the whole Undertale fiasco of 2016 it’s something I elected to do, it’s not worth the hassle ngl. I mean, also look how long it takes us to respond to comments on our own videos lol, the internet is just a confusing place for us old timers. Not liking shows based on their own merit is great, I think with Amphibia it definitely puts its strongest foot forward right from the beginning but The Owl House definitely doesn’t and it is something I know put people off because on my first watch I commented on it to my friends, but after a few episodes it hits its stride and doesn’t really stop until the end which is impressive in its own right. But yeah, I think that top three you’ve got at the bottom sounds pretty solid, and yeah, a fun show can be great even if all it does is just be a good time. He says he is against Isekai anime, for reasons he specified. But in the flood of Isekai anime, there are a few gems that do it so much better than the rest. Tensura is amazing. So I am a spider so what is a god level story, though the anime has horrible animation. And Eminence in shadow, while following all the Isekai tropes, does it 10 times better than all of them making it incredibly enjoyable to watch

Thank you, this still is the biggest project we've done even though the Owl House video is longer just owing to the amount of moving parts in it. It was also the first time we did a lot of things and nearly a year later there's several things I'd love to have a second go on, but I think: "directors cut," &, "KZbin review," might be a tad on the pretentious side. As for the title it was never meant to come across as backhanded, Mr_Turnabout spends nearly an hour gushing over this show and it's one we both really quite like It's an observation made in the video at 49:37. Mr_Turnabout mentioned that it sits between two other shows, both of which were cited as inspiring Amphibia in one way or another and that is kind of hinted at at the beginning of the video too. I guess having watched this video a thousand times during editing I may have just thought it was pointed out well enough but there have been a few people who have commented that we did never explain why it's second. Maybe we could've just made it stand out a little more. Also, I will admit, we did play the KZbin game a little bit, unfortunately you've just got to to even get traction, and it pains me. I would've just called it 'Amphibia | Big Review' if I had my way but we're a small channel and so unfortunately we have to do things we don't like in order to grow, and it has worked out in our favour more often than not. I am sure Amphibia is a better show than Gravity Falls, because Amphibia and Twelve Forever both started in 2019 and they knew how to develop an important character-driven conflict about a main character's 13th birthday better than Gravity Falls when it ended in 2015. Kelsy Abbott did a good job of it in just one season of Twelve Forever, but Matt Braly knew better about how to further develop it across three seasons, and wait until the end of the second season to reveal that to be the origin of how Marcy got Anne and Sasha stuck with her in Amphibia. Amphibia is also the greatest show ever made on Disney Channel because it made us cry for Marcy and Anne when they sacrifice their lives in True Colors and The Hardest Thing, and found a clever way for them to un-die without cheapening the stakes or the emotions we felt before they were alive again. If Dark Phoenix was a smarter film, it would care about not breaking continuity with the original X-Men films that take place later, and fill in those plot holes by making up some excuse for Mystique and Jean Grey to un-die and relive. X-Men: Days of Future Past started a new conflict to overwrite The Last Stand's cure for mutations, and reversed the deaths of Scott Summers, Charles Xavier and Jean Grey, but the X-Men writers and producers ran out of resources to do that again after Dark Phoenix, leaving it in an eternal state of discontinuity limbo. 47:46 Heres the thing though. I love this "fake out" because thats NOT what this is. The Guardian just made a fcking CLONE of her, and sent that instead. That Znne even comments on this, saying that's going to lead to some mental issues later, and i absolutely see a thing off screen where she questions if she's worthy of her own name because she isnt the same Anne that died for her friends, even if the Guardian said she is effectively the same person. I think it's great they could get away with killing off a main character permanently with something as creative as a Clone

To be fair though, even if a clone is created, the clone still thinks they’re Anne with all their memories and feelings so it could be argued that the fake out comments do carry some weight. It’s like at the end of Star Trek: Picard series one where Picard actually dies and they just upload his brain into a robot that looks exactly like him, even he was like, “I was ready to die man.” I’m sure that’s how Picard speaks. From a world building perspective however, there absolutely is weight to having a main character be brave enough to sacrifice themselves from the greater good and their reward is to live again (like Goliath). But from a story telling perspective I could see why some would be upset with it. Especially after this is the second time a character has died only to be brought back to life. It’s not like death is an unfamiliar concept in the show either, Anne alone has a kill count, as do the Plantars as a family. That being said, doesn’t bother me too much as the ending of the show is kind of perfect as it is and I don’t think I could picture it any other way. - monotiller

AND NOW THE GRAND FINALE. Yes, the finale was very good and definitely made sense with its themes, I almost cried BUT if I'm going to analyze it I have to be honest, I have a problem with a lot of the plot points of the finale, the way they are set up and shown. I personally like this ending of The Owl House better than Amphibia, in certain aspects. If we're going to talk about how the two end, like where we see the characters and how they move on, I think they're equal and make sense given their context. But if we're going to talk about introducing certain plot points and ideas in the finale, TOH at least in my opinion automatically wins, even though their time is drastically less than Amphibia's. What do I mean . 1 - In both endings we have the tableau where the main villain captures something big and starts a final attack - here TOH wins because A- Whatever we say, Belos is 10 times better villain than the Core, much more threatening, more interesting , with a more personal attitude towards the heroes and especially the main character, with much more weight and presence and with a much better on-screen death. And B this twist with the cooling of the heart didn't come out of nowhere, that heart was always there and we knew about it and we are theorizing if it will play a role in the ending, which I can't say about Amphibia and the whole twist with the moon suddenly turning out to be doomsday a weapon that falls down that came suddenly out of nowhere, yes there was some kind of vision that o foreshadowed but it was for 3/4 seconds and from the beginning you have no idea what it is and on top of that no one talks about it in the sequel 6 episodes and all of a sudden this is involved at the end when there is a good chance that you have forgotten about this foreshadowing already, one vision is not enough. [Also, if anyone knows, please explain to me exactly what the Core's motivation was for wanting to destroy the world it wants to rule, the destruction of which would most likely kill the Core itself - just a genius plan. I ask because I honestly remember almost nothing about this villain except for two cool lines and one cool fight. ] 2- In both we have a character who is an antagonist, but in one moment they redeem themselves and help our people. Here they are equal because both Andrias and the Collector have an arc that is believable for them, and to say who is better is rather who you find to work better as a viewer. 3 - In both there is the self-sacrifice and the resurrection of the main character. Yes, Anne's self-sacrifice may be more emotional for some people, but I don't think it works that well, because all these elements of the self-sacrifice that will be needed to save Amphibia and the return, both of which were realized at the last moment of the ending [and we get it when we need to know it and not in advance] especially the part with the resurrection/return/cloning, whatever you want to call it, and all that, by the way I'm the great guardian who watched over you all the time, pretty important a detail that is understood at the moment and not in advance with three goals , first - surprise, second - emotional manipulation because if it is known in advance, people will not be so emotional and third - we need an excuse to return her, something, there was and therefore some foreshadowing but for such an important plot point in the final, this is not enough. Luz's sacrifice on the other hand felt a lot more appropriate and a lot more natural, yes it was obvious to me that she was going to come back but I didn't care because it was done well enough for me to be emotional even though I knew she would be ok, and Titan's intervention didn't come out of nowhere and was built up beforehand, it was hinted at quite often since season 1 [though it was more metaphorical at the time, but later they started hinting at it a lot more literally] and quite a few of the theories they were talking about whether he would have a minor role at the end. Was it predictable, yes, but purely logically in relation to the context of the story and the overall internal logic it worked out quite well, although it was expected, it made sense and it wasn't just for the sake of surprise. season 3 Amphibia finale - 8.5/10 season 3 The Owl House finale - 8.5/10

Anyway, now to season 2. To be honest, I have almost no problems there, season 2 is great, I mean introduced King Andrias who is awesome and maybe my favorite character. Except for one problem that comes later because of season 3. season 2 Amphibia - 8 / 10 - I'll explain why I'm downgrading a bit here. season 2 The Owl House - 8.5 / 10

Now season 3, oh my goodness, what happened here. season 3 A - The biggest problem here is the tone and decisions of some characters, especially Anne after the season 2 finale, possibly the biggest mistake that could have been made was to go back to comedy filler episodes, season 2 ends in a way which can be continued adequately only and only if things continue in a serious way, but no, in the end we continue with the comedic adventures, only occasionally remembering the plot. Now this wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't at this point in the story, and considering what happened before this kind of thing is a total waste of time and totally out of place, it would work if it was during season 1, so at least it would have been consistent or in some kind of spin that has nothing to do with this story, but to put it in this place of the arch is completely out of place. And now for my favorite part, Annie, let's go over what has happened so far. In the True Colors finale, Anne sees her best friend get stabbed with a fucking sword through the heart in front of her, and then they're separated and on Earth with no way back, and that means her best friend Marcy is most likely dead and the other and best friend Sasha has a chance to be dead too, separately some tyrant is preparing for war, and here you will ask yourself the question how does Anne feel about this, well don't worry, I will tell you now, she hardly cares. Chronologically, the events between True Colors and the beginning of season 3 are within maybe an hour, 2 or 3 hours at the most, and it plays out as if nothing much has happened, but for the absurd change in tone and decisions of the heroes, this remains in the periphery, and at this stage it should be the main focus. You talk about how she is so realistic and that makes her unique in your eyes, so you are telling me THAT is realistic - [ True Colors - Marcy is pierced by a sword , Ann - Marcy , No . ........... literally 5 minutes later the internet on her phone comes on and she's like - I'M HOMEAAAAAAAA AND TIME FOR SOME ADVENTURES BITCH, your best friend is dead and your other friend might be dead, if your friendship is so important, can you at least pretend you care. ] Now, to be honest, I don't care if anything in the movies or the show is realistic or not, because movies have conventions and inherent rules to their context. But here the problem is, on the one hand, as I said, the tone that fights with what is happening, and on the other hand, the characterization of Anne, the argument that she has to learn the lesson of friendship cannot be made at this stage, that it's past now, here she should be emotionally broken and depressed about what happened considering what character she is and what we are expected to know about her as a character and behavior, not acting like she is nothing special has happened and even if there are some small moments of care on her part it is not enough considering what happened. This is a story that aims to show how important friendship is between these three, sorry but how am I expected to believe in their friendship when one of them acts like she doesn't care after someone has died, especially when there given that at this stage of the story she should not have reacted like that at all. There is another big problem in season 3A that I just thought of and that is the fact that Marcy is not dead and surviving Offscreen. If you're going to bring her back after you've stabbed her in the heart with a sword, and her fake death isn't going to do anything for her as a character or the other characters, then why do it at all. It makes the end of season 2 pointless and the whole sword scene seems like it's just for shock value. Now compare this to Luz in Season 3, she's totally broken and depressed about what happened, thinking it's all her fault and wanting to make up in any way she can, to the point where she doesn't look like herself at all. Season 1 Luz and Season 3 Luz are total opposites. Separately, the whole problem is solved in all three episodes, it is not something only for this episode, and actually it makes sense, because the time between the three episodes is 1 or 2 days at most, so such treatment is completely understandable. On the one hand, it is realistic, and on the other, more importantly, there is logic in relation to the context of the character and everything that is known about her behavior. It can be argued that this episode also has shenanigans, but this is not such a valid criticism because firstly, they are short and not the focus of the episode at all, and secondly, Luz does not participate in them. There are tons more great things about The Owl House Season 3 Episode 1, but I won't list them all because they aren't that relevant here. OH and I know your excuse about Amphibiа season 3A that it was funny so no problem, AHHHH no, it's not like that at all. is it funny, maybe, i told you this type of humor is not my thing, but yes, maybe it is funny BUT that in no way excuses the tonal problems and behavior of the characters. At this point in the story it simply has no place here. Whatever - season 3 A Amphibiа - 5/10 season 3 A. The Owl House - the equivalent in this case would have to be the first episode of the season, because there are only 3 episodes - 8.7/10

I want to clarify. I know this looks like I'm just hating and looking for trouble now. It's not like that, these are things I've noticed and it's the way I measure the quality of things I look at. All that I have listed does not mean that I am of the opinion that the series is bad, it is not like that at all, for me it is a solid 7.4/10 which is a perfectly acceptable and good rating, it just happens that I have problems and it does not work as well for me as for the others and it's not in my top 3, and that's completely ok, the series is still good, it just seems to me that it has a lot of problems and it's not at the level of the other 3. I'm curious to hear your opinion on the matter.

For me S3 have loads of plot holes that even with Marcy's Journal sort of retcon quite a lot of stuff with appropriate answers. Nonetheless the most pissed me off at FUBAR/SNAFU level is the god dxxx fxxxing awful treatment of 2020AD US military forces Quick Reaction Force (QRF) in S3 "All In" can't do many jack crap even if it prepared plus being No.1 Hyperpower military force on home turf nor send in expeditionary force(s) to 'liberate' Amphibia in the name of 'democracy' & 'freedom'! >:(

Very nice analysis, BUT I personally strongly disagree with the conclusion that this is the second best Disney show, I strongly disagree. My arrangement is as follows - Gravity falls The Owl House Gargoyles - due to personal sentiments. and then Amphibia. Why do I think so? now I will explain in detail, quite in detail. Season 1- Most people have a problem with how almost everything is filler and there are only a few things that are important in the overall story but I don't really have that problem, my problem is that a huge part of season 1 felt formulaic in my opinion , almost every episode boils down to Ann doing something she shouldn't do to learn her lesson and then 3 episodes later or right into the next one, she makes the same mistake again. This may seem realistic to a child, yes, but for television, in my opinion, this is not ok, it cannot be constantly in some period of time surrounding almost a whole season with the same thing at one point after 5 times, let's say, it becomes too much repetitive and boring / boring is subjective, of course, but it still starts to become very generic in its context / and this wouldn't be a problem IF the problems themselves weren't solved at the end, what I mean - if, for example, Ann had problems that weren't solved at the end of each episode, but they only teased that there would be a continuation and development of this, I wouldn't have a problem, she technically has such problems, but they are counted on the fingers and against the background of everything else and all other situations, that's it very repetitive. the characters - The characters are OK to me, I have no such problems, Anne is OK, I don't find her interesting and particularly outstanding in my eyes, she stands out only because she is the only protagonist from a Disney animated show who is more "realistic" but anyway in season 1 and 2 I have no problems with her, I have problems, then in season 3 A and B we will get there. I also have a big problem with the fact that for almost the entire 1st season we stay in Amphibia and we haven't seen almost anything interesting, literally half the season we stay in the same house and in some cases things happen that don't make much sense - such as the whole episode where Anne didn't want to show the box of frogs, why wouldn't she do something like that at this stage when, firstly, she already knows them relatively well and secondly, if it's so realistic, why didn't she just show it to them from the beginning, they live in this world, they might know what it is and how it works she eventually shows it but why didn't she want to show it in the first place considering the situation. There are other such examples, but I will not list them all because they are not that striking, this is just my observation. And because people love to make comparisons and I'll give my opinion, I find Season 1 of The Owl House to be better and more interesting and I find Luz to be a more likable and watchable protagonist. You made the comparison in the video about Luz's dialogue in the first episode, BUT to that I will say the following, it's no secret to anyone that a lot of the first episodes of The Owl House, especially episode 1, are not really strong, everyone knows that the first episode is weak, that is clear. The question is whether it works as a complete arc. From episode 15 onwards, there is no weak episode in my opinion in this series. Many people will make the argument that season 1 of The Owl House is also formulaic and that there are also similar problems, yes there are such problems, BUT as I said, they are more likely in the first episodes and then there is no such type of formulation, there are episodes in which Luz makes mistakes and subsequently learns her lesson but they are only a few and quite a few of the issues and although they are addressed in the episodes are not resolved and subsequently given time to escalate - for example her fear of her mother and what will happened if she found out what was going on, that took almost the entire series to resolve, it wasn't something that could be resolved in one season. Or episode 2 where she was cheated and subsequently you can see how in other episodes, she is more vigilant and more aware of things, not in all cases, but she is more alert because she has learned her lesson and knows that things will not they become as she wants, there are episodes in which she subsequently helps other characters to learn something or correct their mistakes, it is not something that should be repeated constantly, there is a transfer of things that make it not repetitive. Separately, we see more of the boiling islands, new characters, locations and concepts are introduced, many of which play a role in the sequel. Compare this to Amphibia where I can say that you don't need to have seen almost anything from season 1 to understand what happens next or to feel the emotional impact of it, and if you don't believe me, I'll tell you that I played Amphibia on people who haven't seen it, and I've skipped episodes that I found useless, which are quite a few, and when they got to the end they felt just as emotionally battered as other people who had seen the whole thing, so countering the argument that these so-called filler episodes are to build a stronger connection between the characters and the viewers, this is not necessarily a valid argument. And my final issue with season 1, which is totally subjective here no one has to agree, is the comedy just no, sorry but this comedy just isn't for me, it seems too childish, at least in my opinion. season 1 Amphibious - 6.5 /10 season 1 The Owl House - 7.4 /10

And NOW season 3 B. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'll be quick here. The Core and the King is the only episode of season 3B that is cool, maybe because it is related to Andrias, who is always on a good level. All the other episodes leading up to the finale are a waste of time and tonal incoherence in the absolute most outrageous way. I don't care if they're funny or not, there's no room for that here at this stage. And the other mistake they made was introducing a new villain, the Core or Darcy, firstly - there is not enough time for them to feel like a real threat and their presence is not justified as a threat and secondly - the core is a dumb villain, very dumb , just another megalomaniac who wants to take over the world because reason, there are no interesting motives or things to make you understand this villain and why they do what they do or in other words - GENERIC. That's why the presence of the Core in the final and, accordingly, their defeat was hollow and devoid of emotional weight. Yes, the design is cool and the voice too, and the fight with Sasha is pretty good, BUT THAT IS NOT ENOUGH FOR A GOOD VILLAIN. Here in the comparisons with The Owl House. Episode 2 was not very solid, but the problem there was not so much whether we were wasting time, but where we were wasting it and there were things that were not needed, but there were also many, many things that worked more than they didn't, and the final set up was better, with siority it was better than the entire season 3B of Amphibian. season 3 B Amphibiа - 3/10 season 3 B The Owl House - 6/10

Having finished it I gotta say, this is probably one of if not the best Amphibia video essay that I've seen. Concise yet *very* thorough, beginning from pre-pitch concepts all the way to (technically :p) Marcy's Journal-a genuine rarity. The very obvious huge Amphibia stan that you've got for an editor functions as a great opposing/supporting voice whenever they give their own opinion on something you just commented on. And speak of, you said some shit I just could not get behind at *all*... while remaining honest and entertaining! Maybe I'm just not used to that, but I think that's huge! You know someone's good when they're being true to themselves, even if it goes very much against mainstream thinking, while still being funny and fun to watch. It's great to see people who care about the show put this much effort into discussing it, very very nice. Honestly feel I'd love to talk about the show with you. Kudos indeed.

Hey, thank you so much for the kind words, I think this was the video we had the most fun making too and I think it helps when it's something we're both passionate about. Although I must admit I only watched Owl House and then Amphibia because I knew Mr_Turnabout wanted to do videos on them both, I ended up liking Owl House a little more than he did so he asked me to do that video instead, and that allowed us to sort of plan out our videos, bounce ideas off each other and just have a good time with them both. I'm glad I got the book though. I saw a tweet from Matt Braly showing that the book had a few behind the scenes snippets in it so I thought I'd pick it up just in case it helped with the video and ended up just having a good read of the same story from a different perspective.
