He was using the presets, not the models. Pretty much every video review of the pedal is doing this. The parameter button has roughly 14 functions per model (probably easier to use in a computer) to edit. While it may have that digital sound to it, it sounds better than a plugin in my opinion. For the price it sounds good if you like a wide array of modulation but don't want to waste board space. Personally I'd set up like 5 of my own presets and use the tap function to fine tune for each song.
