I know exactly what you’re talking about but also have some thoughts. I have been primarily in iRacing for the last 8 months. That’s definitely influenced my initial impressions trying this update. I did a few things that have significantly helped. Firstly I turned the cheesy sliding tires sound way down/ off. Secondly I completely rebuilt a couple profiles for my wheelbase, forgetting what worked for iRacing and just focused on what AMS2 was telling me. Because in many ways I think iRacing over simplifies the FFB to make it more drivable for the masses. I have a decent amount of time (not a professional amount but enough to know a few things) in race cars with big slicks and some of the “weird” behavior in AMS2 compared to iRacing is closer than iRacing to those behaviors in real life. Not saying all the way there but closer. When I let go of what I think it should feel like based on my iRacing experience I find the driving to actually be more intuitive albeit more taxing on me because I have to be on top of it. But my responses to feels are more natural and less “learned.” With much more “tuned” FFB profiles, I am having moments of really feeling the tires a lot. I agree there’s still some “slidey” behavior. I also feel like that’s influenced by the audio a lot. The sliding should go kind of numb in terms of feedback cause you’ve lost rolling friction, but you can still get bumps and skipping and grabbing (think of sliding across an uneven surface with hot rubber) and that’s where I think it goes into that overly “slidey” feeling in game. The FFB just goes straight numb and muted. One other detail that I know is throwing people off even if they don’t pick up on it is the horizon line. Other sims keep the car level through corners and such. We all know that in real life the car leans to the outside through lateral forces. IRacing just rotates with no roll to the visuals. This makes it very simple but unnatural. AMS2 has modeled that roll into the visuals. Just like audio the visual thing creates enough illusion for your brain to fill in gaps. So compared to other sims, this behavior is “weird” albeit more correct. It makes you feel like the steering is one way and the car is another. This is more prominent in VR I can attest to. I never get sick in VR and it took me a day of in and out of the game to get over the initial nausea. The AI for sure needs work still. I found iRacing much easier after a day or so in this version of AMS2. But it also was lacking for me after being in AMS2 in terms of the information through the wheel. I think this is actually a big step forward and good on them for doing it and pushing the boundary. Still room for improvement but I also think this may open the door for more realistic FFB going forward. They’re definitely getting more out of the wheelbase than before. Hopefully they can push further down this path and smooth the issues out because I think this is a positive move.

I feel exactly the same, I've been on iRacing for 11 months and I drop into AMS2 & AC from time to time. I found the same in VR too with Nausea, and turned off all camera movement, but the car seems to move weirdly in AMS2. I did a good session on AMS 2 last night. Then did 2 races in iRacing today & didn't want to load up AMS 2 after. It has definitely improved with 1.6. But for car feel I think AC is still better than iRacing, and iRacing is better than AMS2. I know it is subjective though.
@fan2hd277
@fan2hd277 16 күн бұрын
@@linzkirkyou can’t state that like that. I have all the sims and none of them is realistic. All have flaws and very good aspects. The least realistic imo is iRacing. The only 2 things they do right is braking and raining. Tyre physics is awefull and this is not really racing. Just just drive on rails to avoid a 360 even on dry track. Best physics for me have always been raceroom and FFB is AC. AMS2 sits in between all of that. I agree the slydiness is a bit too much depending on the car but for the rest its dawn close and racing is really engaging and not boring.

@@fan2hd277 Like I said, I know it's subjective. I agree there is not one that is perfect, All have flaws and very good aspects. I think the tyre physics in AC are better than in iRacing. But I really feel AMS 2 a bit slidey and a kind of disconnect from the road, but I play it a lot and do enjoy it. I also think what wheel and FFB settings you use make a huge difference, also I only play in VR. I don't have much experience of race room, think I will give it a go after what you said. Ive done a few real track days at Brands Hatch and Lohaec, and a friend of mine races GT3, we both agree no sim feels real mainly due to lack of real movement and G forces. But my friend found AC to feel the most realistic, then iRacing, then AMS2 and GT7 and I tend to agree with him.

Totally agree with you. There is still a little too much slip in the tyres and the feeling of weight being transferred to the loaded tyre is still vague. Everything seems too stiffly setup, this accentuates the feeling of sliding. The AI still seems to struggle at slipstreaming each other, they either pull out too early and gain little momentum or they remain glued to the car ahead.

I’m liking this update. I’ve only driven the Oreca, a few GT3’s and a few LMDH cars so far in 1.6. Agree that the Oreca feels fantastic, the LMDH cars feel good as well. For the GT3 cars (notably the Porsche 992), I agree the slidy feeling is still there somewhat (thought the new GT3 cars felt better though). I do find changing setup helps a lot on improving car feel though and extent of GT3 slidy-ness is track/setup dependent (eg I really liked the Audi and Corvette handling around Sebring, and the Porsche felt good there, but the Porsche at Imola I struggled with). Graphics update is good. For the AI, I think it’s improved a lot. I’ve done multiple multiclass races now and seen faster cars being able to get through lapped traffic. Along with seeing AI challenge each other, defend going into corners (player and AI) and give you a battle. To me the AI is more engaging and fun to drive against compared to the other two sims I drive (RR and LMU). Quite often finish a race in AMS2 thinking there were some good battles on track. Way I’ve come to see it is no sim has it all. Each has its positives and negatives. I use RR for online racing (and hotlapping as love the handling) but AMS2 for me offers the all-round best package for offline driving. I can setup a race easily, customise cars, recreate races etc etc. and have races that are fun to drive. So 1.6 is a positive for me!

I had a friend over last evening to race with me and we raced the Merc evo,we could not come to grips with how slidy it was almost to the point of frustration. We switched to the McLaren 720, had the same issues.Probably5 restarts later (factory settings) it was the same until I slid out on the grass at Le Mans,in spinning the tires I noticed only 1 tire was burning off.Went into settings changed bumps Front and Rear to softer,changed clutch packs to 2 and brought down the rear ride height 2 mm. INSTANTLY was far better, hope this helps!!

I started sim racing with Project Cars 2 and i loved it a lot with my cheap Logitech wheel i had back then. That's why i did not hesitate to order it when AMS 2 was announced. Different driving feel does not matter to me I can learn and accommodate myself per sim. What ruined AMS 2 for me is inconsistency of the driving feel. Sim racing is all about consistency (muscle memory). I appreciate their effort and commitment to improve the physics but trying to relearn everything with each update every other month was a big task for me. Inconsistency was not limited to different versions of the updates but between cars within the same update. Same happened to ACC for me as well with the last few updates. They not only changed the driving feel drastically, turned whole setup logic upside down with each update. No one has time to spend hours for fine tuning dozens of cars for dozens of tracks every 6 months once again.

To be honest I think regarding what is “realistic” for a race car behavior and tire model, here almost everybody, including myself, just use our usual sim, usually iRacing like in my case, as the “this is how it should be” criteria for any other sim. I like iRacing but remember it had not very good comments regarding its tire model and behavior from several real drivers when a bunch of them raced on it while COVID. As said I like iRacing and it is my main sim for its competitive system, but in fact I like more AMS2 behavior, for me feels more “natural”, more “analogical”, I would love iRacing with AMS2 behavior and graphics tbh. My only near competition experience was 2 laps in a Porsche GT3 with a local pilot at the wheel in Nordschleife, and I can tell you my previous experience with my normal car had not gave my a fuck** clue on how this car behaved driven near the limit, after that experience I realized I really had no idea at all on how a race car would behave or feel. I am afraid many of us are in the same boat as me and as said we just compare with our main sim as the reference, usually iRacing, to state if other sim is “real” or not, we had not the slightest idea how the tires of a F1 or a LMP2 would really behave.

I think the AI for the IMSA content ranges anywhere from okay to completely broken depending on the track you go to. I really hope future development gets focused on really dialing the AI in because as it stands they cannot provide an immersive experience. The people I see praising the AI typically run anywhere from 5 lap races go 30 min races and depending on cars racing they can do a decent job for races that short, but if you're heavily invested in a immersive offline experience with real race distances or even half distances the cracks become glaring quite quickly.

Hey Ben, nice video. Always like watching your content. Like most, agree with you that cars feel somewhat slidey/move around more in ams2 compared to other sims. Positive thing about that is you are able to dance around and above the limit of the tires much easier conpared to iracing for example (whether that's realistic or not is another question). The skill in ams2 is to maximize the grip you are getting throughout the corner and recognize when that happens. I'm enjoying that challenge.

Spot on Ben, and well expressed. The combination of the physics still feeling off despite welcome improvements and the racing being more quirky than compelling leads me into exactly the same cul-de-sac, often fun but rarely truly rewarding. Slower cars on shorter tracks (Mini's/Oulton) can shine, but it's been 4 years now, Reiza have a licence for IMSA, to add that endurance content would be well over £50, and for that to conclude in an experience for the end user with 4 LMP2 cars stuck nose to trail behind a GT3 on the staggeringly long straights of Daytona, lap after lap, is quite frankly not good enough.

Exactly correct, I was driving the GT3 Audi and noticed it just keeps losing traction, and once it does, you’re not getting it back. Seems like when the tires were cold I could actually hold a shallow, stable drift with throttle modulation. It’s like as the tires get warmer, the cars drive exponentially worse

@@Ben_LaBroca try V6000 extreme 2 by danielkart on the AMS2 forum. Changes and improvements V6000 Extreme2: 1. The brake balance and feel have been adjusted 2. When braking hard, there are no jerky movements of the steering axle and no strong swinging of the wheel 3. The brake jitter during hard braking has been increased and is now better felt in the wheel 4. The back pressure during braking has been reduced, which was too great, especially in GT3/GT4/GT5 and FWD cars 5. Tyre slip has been adjusted 6. Extreme new grip level to be felt, this creates a great stability until the final grip loss of the cars (no floating cars to be felt) 7. The different curbs and the road feedback have been adjusted. Curbs can now be felt that were not felt by me in previous versions. A very immersive experience on the curbs 8. Static force regulation (for dd bases) is now better integrated into the V6000 extreme2 without any other anomalies. This means that the high forces at slow speeds and in slow corners could be reduced without losing punch or too much other feedback. Struggling less with the wheel means you feel more fine details. dd bases that do not have a static force reduction will now also benefit from this 9. The sliding of the cars has been reduced by the fantastic tire grip 10. The "Flatspot" has been adjusted in both files 11. No wild swaying of the wheel, could be slightly reduced again (in my opinion, it doesn't belong in any simulation) 12. The self-alignment of the steering axle to the zero position when accelerating has been increased on FWD cars and all rally cars ( Dirt Cars / KART CROSS Cars / RX Cars) 13. Adjusted in-game settings and adjusted base settings in both files (dd bases and strap bases) 14. New strap bases added in the 2nd file. So-called hybrid bases, a combination of belt drive and gear drive 15. The in-game value (LFB) has been tried to be integrated into the strap file. There is now no longer a need for (LFB) even for weak belt bases, because this value more disadvantages than advantages. This does not have to apply to pure gear bases like Logitech, here it can still be advantageous to use (LFB) 16. (For V6000 Extreme2) The difference between the front axle and the rear axle can now be felt in even more detail 17. (For V6000 Extreme2) Even less slipping of the cars 18. (For V6000 Extreme2) The high grip level and the stability of the cars could be increased again 19. (for V6000 Extreme2) Adjusted in-game settings and adjusted base settings

Was a good experience. The physics... I just drifted the car all along. Personally I don't care about AMS2 getting more realistic... I really miss a good career mode (that I doubt Reiza will deliver anything better than the generic PCARS2 career like). I still can't save during races (so, half of AMS2 content is useless as it's focused on enduro), still all the multimodel classes still incomplete (all but Hot Cars and Stockcar Brasil), still can't use the replay time-bar. So, IMHO, AMS2 still have that demo feeling that I can't wave off. PS: All sims are unrealistic in different ways, so I just can't care less about it

Race LMP2 on LFM! I dropped tyre sound down to 10 and I know it seems silly but it’s actually reduced my perception of the car sliding. It does still have a bit of slideyness and heavy braking dropping into first gear has some weird behaviour, but other than that I’m really enjoying it now. This is the first update where it’s been in my hands for nearly one week and I’m still playing it, usually a couple of hours after an update I’d stop playing it and forget it. Formula car AI is terrible, but tin top ai I’ve been enjoying the main thing that bugs me is the scripted clusters and convoys they keep forming. If you do the same race back to back it’s like Groundhog Day of sim racing.

Im still going to try out this again most likely, im not a fan of the physics but perhaps custom setups may help me there. but im still surprised at how underrated ams1 is. with High aggression and a low powered car such as the f3 at a 70s circuit is so much fun, i spent 20 minutes fighting for p1 with 17 other cars! i hope ams2 can reach that level one day even if that day may be far out

It would be nice if the AI would block the inside line occasionally. Every corner pretry much is a simple pass up the inside. Like the game, but still a way to go on a few issues.

Did you try different ai argressive settings? I feel the opposite for driving with them. But I dont know the ai of iracing. I only played ac,acc, rrre and ams2. Ams2 is my favourite by far. The visuals, the weather, the ffb and the selection of cars. MP could and should be better but we should not pretend other games have not their problems. I know I am not a race driver but when I watch gt3 irl I also see them slide.

Astute observations there Ben. As someone who is very much an AMS2 enjoyer I think you’re onto something regarding a preference to under drive the car if that’s your style. I find with the updates that cars of need to be driven and pushed harder than before to respond at their best. The LMP2 is an absolute gem of a car and very much inspires confidence to push and this responds well. I kind of think it’s to do with the Hysteresis additions to the tyres - Nils Naujoks had a really good video explaining it - the upshot being more push = more load = better response. I find the DTM Mercedes 190E Evo 2 to be a great example of this. It’s a tricky car to drive in any sim, and same in AMS2, but performs its best when you push and hustle it through the corner. As you say, everyone has different preferences and we’re lucky to have different sims able to cater for all tastes nowadays.

Maybe it's because I mostly come to AMS2 to race the lower powered series (I don't care much for GT/LMP racing in any sim, and admittedly am not consistent enough in faster open wheel cars), but with my favourite combos (Formula Inter, Formula Junior, Copa Classic, Old Stock, SprintRace, etc) I always seem to have great races with the AI which is why I keep coming back as my single player sim heavily using the custom championship mode. I do agree with others that maybe should try custom FFB settings that are shared out there (nice to have that flexibility and ability to really deep dive these settings), though I've never felt the need to use them with my Simucube OSW wheel and my settings (Simucube software and in-game settings).

As a big fan of old and classic cars, I absolutely loved the Copa Classic B cars in 1.5 but 1.6 was a huge disappointment regarding these cars, the only ones that have been done dirtier are the RallyCross... My feeling is that it feels like they just tuned down the FFB to hide the floatiness which feels like an improvement in some cars but absolutely destroyed any sensation in other cars. I also feel there is a major lack of information when one of your tires is just a bit off the track or when you go over a kerb, this led to big spins as soon as I touched the brakes because I did not know my tires were a bit off track but also allows to cut over kerbs at full speed without losing much grip. Focusing on the endurance series is understandable, they are quite popular right now, but there is LMU for that. What I used to love about AMS2 were the Uno and the Puma GTE and I just don't enjoy them anymore after that update.

It's a big improvement in many ways, but I tend to agree that there's an overriding impression of changing the physics model to feel a certain way, rather than it being the last word in realism. With that said, however, I do like that one can attack the lap in a more sensitive and informed manner. I'll likely get the new dlc after the trial ends. It is nicely done and the developers are clearly dedicated to making AMS2 the best it can be. Full marks for that. The AI I'm less impressed with, however. Still light years behind ACC and iRacing, which are the gold standards.

Assetto corsa is my favorite sim but I think AMS2 is now very enjoyable. I tried a few cars and only the GT3s feel like they still slide a little too much on corner exit under throttle. Overall I’m enjoying it a lot. The sim I absolutely cannot enjoy is Iracing, the FFB, sound and tire model make it very disappointing for me. Maybe give AMS2 a little more time and try some different FFB settings like others have said

Yeah, no, I don't agree with you. Game feels better than ever. In fact is the most feeling alive sim in the market. Just yesterday had lfm race, spun and in iracing or acc that would be game over but in ams2 I stayed hoping for a safety car to show up and it did! You can put less fuel in hopes for a safety car, you can flat spot your tyres, realistic weather, seasons for tracks and much more. In iracing you always have to underdrive the car, in ams2 you can push it.

Just give time to the tyres to warm up, the slide/floting efect disapears. There is a video of an spanish old man, who was mechanic for racing cars and now retired do youtube videos (don't expect high level youtube skills). He is trying racing without TC or abs in different conditions forcing the tyres to the limit, and after a couple of laps of so the car is very similar to what his knoweledge of it (and has a lot) should be. My personally like it, is not LMU (oreca maybe) but damn close. Never liked iRacing ice skating style on the limits and on AC all cars are too easy to drive to consider it real or right (pretty sure if I drive a racing car I would crash on first corner and with AC I can drive with one hand)

It's a start, not a final solution. I'm not a fan of the graphics, it looks like a console game. AMS2 has a chronic problem with inconsistency across models and tracks. It always feels like patchwork from modders. The new AI are very variable across tracks, ignore blue flags in multiclass, they can take off on straights. The rain physics is not consistent. On some models and tracks, there is barely a rain grip effect in pouring rain. Mosport is ok, based on a pre 2020 version of the track, but it's impossible to exit the pits without crashing. AI brake too soon, but appear to have a turbo button on the long back straight. So, an AI race is constant passing in corners, then getting passed on straights. It plays like an arcade game. Honestly, there are mod tracks in AC that are better, and Pure mod graphics are better.

This is because you use to the simple punishment that is iRacing and arcadie of ACC. AMS2 drifting or sliding is because of the speed you take corners in the other titles. Which more than likely In real life would cause understeer which is more realistic In AMS2.

I haven’t noticed any improvement ( on a gamepad) in either ( 620 or Supersport) Caterham’s and Opala 86…apart from slightly slower lap times, may due to me initially being over cautious. I can still throw them around RallyX style. However, these are the only 2 cars I have driven since v1.6 Yah, Ben, wise decision to wait for LFM to get out of the Beta. looking forward to a race or two with you again someday.
