you should leave the old oil filter in place after putting new oil in; over fill with the new oil. Then detach the oil return hose, put hose into a drain pan and run the engine for a few seconds. This flushes the remaining old, dirty oil, out and prevents dirty oil from contaminating the new oil filter when you install it later. I do this all the time. I run the bike until the oil return hose starts pumping out clear, clean oil. Stop the bike at that point, connect return host, replace oil filter and you'll be golden.

Good one...I use Amsoil on mine after breakin, since new, change every 5k...buddy nad I had our bike at same shop getting maintenance and upgrades...My buddy has 6k on his bike, mine 80k. When disassembled top end and cam chest, mechanic noticed that my 80k bike, had no more wear than the 2 year old 6k bike. He was surprised it was so obvious. Well worth while. 80k and runs like a top...

Nice video. On my 2017 Road Glide Ultra the Dealer did all my oil changes with Syn 3. He told me stay with Syn 3 until my 2 year warranty expired. They also carry Amsoil. Right after the two years I went with Amsoil in all three compartments. What I did find which was a distinct shock was driving out of the dealership when I shifted into second gear it was effortless and smooth to the point LOL I thought I broke the clutch cable. Over 45,000.00 miles later still purring like a kitten. Can’t comment on if there was more noise from valve clutter. My view I’m not riding a GoldWing engine so that clatter sounds that people talk about, doesn’t bother me.

Im getting ready to do this on a 2014 Streetglide Firefighter Shrine and a 2005 Deuce. I always change at 5,000 miles. Motor, transmission and primary. I know overkill seeings a mechanic told me 10,000 for the primary and 20,000 for the transmission. I run K+N air filters and am going to fit FLO reusable oil filters. I also run love juggs ( mini mite) fans . The combination of the oil , and fans and the bike will never overheat in hot weather. The alloy oil filters is said to drop the temperature by about another 10 degrees. I run my 2015 Hyundai VELOSTER TURBO on Amsoil as well as my CTX Honda 700 . Hell my 125cc CRF dirt bike even runs on Amsoil.

Good video for newbies... next time consider showing where the primary fluid level should be. It is a good idea to let the filter set for 10-15 minutes to allow the oil to spread. Areas that are not completely covered will show so you can add more oil. The engine needs to be at operating temperature before making level check. 200-230 degrees. The oil pump needs to scavenge fully, otherwise you may over fill the case. Any hoot, thank you. These videos definitely help people service their own machines. Unfortunately for me, I found Amsoil caused a noisy top end. Running their primary fluid did improve my ability to find neutral. Their filters are one of the best on the market. If you do not have excessive crankcase pressure and your head breathers do not puke excessive amounts of snot, you can run your oil level up to one dot below full. If you have a puker, many people run the level midway between add and full. I run the Trask vented tranny cover and the DK Customs external head breather setup on my M8 107. This combination allows the engine to vent properly and eliminate snot into the combustion chamber. Running the snot back into the engine will eventually cake the top of your pistons with carbon and cause detonation. With this venting, your engine will rev and run better. Ride safe :-)

I use Lucas 2050 full synthetic the the chain case in the engine and Lucas 8140 in the transmission way better and last longer than and's. Oil no guy had ends well in his and they wouldn't warrant to his bike so there you go.

By ONLY warming the engine parked, you’re leaving any “junk” on the sump floor of your engine, transmission and primary. You must RIDE the bike to get those bits IN THE OIL so they drain out WITH IT.

What is the primary oil viscosity that you used also the transmission oil weight?
@4ever2up
@4ever2up Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Harley Davidson recommends 20W50 for the engine, primary, and transmission. Amsoil follows those recommendations. So I would assume the primary and transmission oils would be rated as close to 20W50, they do state that the oils are made with specific changes to their viscosity and blend specifically for those applications. I searched the website and oil information and found the “Kinematic” viscosities but was not able to find a common viscosity description. The following is from Amsoil’s website. “For the record, AMSOIL recommends AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil in the engine, transmission and primary chaincase on most Harleys (consult our Motorcycle Product Guide for specific recommendations). “ “What are the Differences Between Motorcycle Oil, Primary Oil & Transmission Fluid In essence, Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid and Synthetic V-Twin Primary Fluid are formulated to protect just one area of your bike rather than three. This specificity allows AMSOIL to “over-engineer” each lubricant for its precise application. Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid has a higher viscosity than 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil. A higher-viscosity, or “thicker,” lubricant provides some advantage in helping quiet noisy transmission gears and enabling smooth shifts.” “Likewise, AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Primary Fluid is “over-engineered” to protect primary chaincase components. Its viscosity is like an SAE 50 motor oil. Formulating it as a straight-weight lubricant naturally offers an advantage in shear stability over multi-viscosity lubricants. This helps the fluid remain thicker, which helps it cling to the compensator without being “flung off” as easily for maximum protection.” It’s not the simple answer you were looking for but I hope it helps.

I have been a long time synthetic lubrication fanatic for 50-odd years. I eventually moved to AMSOIL after reading all the test results and blending information that AMSOIL provides to the governments. i.e. investigating the FACTS not opinions on these products. I've been really happy with AMSOIL until around 2020 when the founder passed away. Since then, AMSOIL corporate has become radioactively toxic. They could care less about customers or small dealers. With this "NEXT-50" program if you aren't a high achiever they have contempt for you. K&N oil filters are the best that's out there. This is a fact. Just filtering small particles is meaningless if the media is so small that it clogs up quickly. Once that happens *NO* oil is filtered. Mobil One 20W-50 is as good if not better than AMSOIL and is less expensive. Bel Ray 85W-140 severe gear oil in the transmission. Redline V-twin primary fluid. I torque drain plugs that have anti-seize on the threads to 25 ft/lbs. You do NOT want one of them to fall out! I always send a sample of my drains to a lab to be analyzed. $35 is cheap insurance for a heads up on what's going on inside the engine. Tranny too. Sample the primary also if you are really anal as I am. If you're going to spring for a K&N air filter spend a bit more and install a big sucker or equivalent so you motor can breathe!
