Few yrs ago a mate lost concentration and drove his car into a ditch on a driveway and ripped out his sump. He kept driving and i noticed the oil dumped on the road and warned him as soon as the oil lights up shut it off and roll it as far as he can because we were so close to the house. Light came on and 10-15 sec later he shut off and managed to roll it off the road and park it at the house where he replaced the sump and no damage was done. No idea what oil he was running but just goes to show it does happen 😅👍

I changed the oil on a 1991 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder engine back in 2005 using conventional Quaker State. I drove off and the engine stopped running so I pulled over on the side of the highway about a half a mile from my house. I cranked the engine over until it started back up again drove another half a mile until I got to the store and the car felt like I had an anchor tied to it, the car really struggled to stay running. At the store i noticed all the oil drained out of the filter because I cross threaded it. So I had to buy new oil and put the filter on correctly, after that the engine started knocking. I still drove it around another 20,000 miles before I got rid of it but the engine was ruined 😂 so how far can you run a Toyota Camry with Quaker State conventional oil drained out, about a half a mile.

@@TenzaMotorsports Interesting stuff. I agree lube companies can manipulate test results to make their products look better, but it would not be in their best interests. Been using Amsoil for years. 20,000km intervals on my Subaru Forester and 07 Mazda3. Mazda has just over 300,000km on it and the Subaru is at 140,000km. Doesn't burn a drop of oil, compression is still good. If you use a quality oil you can absolutley do extended intervals. Also be aware of the wording on oils. Full Synthetic vs 100% Synthetic Oil. Usually when worded " Full Synthetic" it's a mixed blend.

Unfortunately this test is flawed and real synthetics are far better than conventional oil base full synthetics that are only blends. That includes your dino oil hydrocracked royal purple. That's rite no amount of added synthetic makes royal rip you off purple a real all synthetic oil. Don't get mad at me get pissed off at castrol lawyers for persuading a judge to agree that as long as a dino oil contains a minimum 25% synthetic content it can be labeled "full synthetic" in the case brought against castrol by Mobil 1. Which Mobil 1 then just gave up on making real all synthetic oils along with every other petroleum oil company. These companies however stood their ground in manufacturing real all completely synthetic oils with Amsoil being the very first one in 1972. Redline Synlube and Motul!

An interesting thesis on oil, but I believe it's irrelevant as all tests on oil should be at maximum operating temperature. Letting the oil out of an engine and seeing how long it lasts is irrelevant to the fact that all tests should be run with oil. Perhaps 100 hour test then drain then disassemble the engine to see the wear. Also test the oil to see what's in it

How can somebody say 5 minutes to stop your car when the oil light comes on is nothing? If I see that oil light come on I'm stopping my car immediately. And then I'm calling for help or trying to diagnose the problem if I can fix it myself. I don't need 5 minutes from the time the oil light comes on to kill my engine unless there's some sort of extreme circumstance that prevents me from stopping. The problem most people have is a warning light comes on and they ignore it and just continue about their business like it doesn't matter. They just drive it until it stops running. They know there's a problem but they ignore it. It doesn't matter what you put in the engine, they're going to destroy it if there's ever an issue. So no amount of time will matter in reality. Most people just drive their car until it dies or they trade it in.

I've kind of fallen out of boutique oil companies and just look for something within the major companies which probably have superior R&D aimed at generic road car use. I just use my ears to see what oils seem to make it to 5k. I felt like the Volvo T5 was exceptionally tough on oil and QSUD held up the best. Realistically I would used any of the $20-30 5 quart jugs from the majors without too much thought. I'm hesistant with Mobil 1 because of FP turbos findings like a decade ago on bearing wear and I just don't use Royal Purple because of bad luck with a blown motor (though logically it was probably not the oil's fault). I feel like the perfect oil is a bit of a fool's errand and you have to delve through the world of marketing, theoretical tests, brand loyalist/fans, and even if you found something great the companies will reformulate without mention on the same SKU. I look at VW/Audi, Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes approved oils and just go with those and then just judge early oil changes by valvetrain noise.

There's way more to oil than just how well it protects metal and metal. Oil has a flash point where it turns in the carbon. That carbon can damage engine components in block internal passages leading engine failure. If the oil turns into an acid you can eat away at internal parts of the engine and again cause damage. So just straight out protection of metal to metal surfaces, while important, isn't the only consideration.

I would first like to know the specs of the engine build. What we're the bearing clearances? A good oil stays close to viscosity throughout the life of the oil. When an oil's package breaks down and gets dirty, the viscosity goes up. Amsoil and Pennzoil have good packages that stay cleaner longer and thus the viscosity stays relatively the same.

Why wouldn't you use super tech in your car? You just extrapolated a test for like 20min and completely contradicted your own narrative. Super tech is made by Warren distributions, a quality manufacturer. It meets and exceeds all specifications and holds or out performs against top brands in tests. Having said that...yuck yuck I'm too boujey for that shyt herp derp.. make it make sense smarty-pants.
@TenzaMotorsports Жыл бұрын
Not sure where you’re getting the contradiction in this video. These tests were done to see which performed best and I would respect the results. Super tech performed the worst. I wouldn’t put it in my car. That’s not difficult to understand. Has nothing to do with being boujee. It has everything to do with, spending tens of thousands of dollars building a race car and not being a cheap ass at the very end. Why would anyone spend the time and money I have, to cut corners and potentially have your oil hurt the engine? I'm sure super tech is fine, for a daily driven low tolerance Honda, but that doesn't mean it's a race car oil. There are many tire companies that meet or exceed regulations, but that doesn't mean I put cheap tires on my race car. All the gas at the gas pumps meet regulations. Doesn’t mean I use cheap low octane fuel. Does that make sense? Same thing applies with oil. A Royal purple oil change costs me around $65-75 (a year) . Saving $30 a year to buy a cheap oil.. Isn’t with the risk.

If your truck has one of the DOD type lifters, like the GM 5.3 L, it likely has nothing to do with the oil itself, those engines have to have frequent oil changes. I use the Mobile 1 0w40 European blend which has a much better additive package than most oils on the market.

"If you hit a rock and your oil pan is leaking"...LOL. When's the last time that happened to me in 30 years of driving? Never. Clowns.

Running low on oil happens very often. We are just using an extreme example.
