Amsoil vs Valvoline vs Repsol vs Polytron - Oil comparison review

Hi everyone! Today we’ll take a look at another 4 engine oils to find out which is the best. I’m taking about Polytron, Amsoil Signature Series, Repsol Elite and Valvoline SYN Power XL-3.
We’ll start with the technical data sheet overview of each oil, (for Polytron it was not available, but later provided. See pinned comment). Please keep in mind to only choose your oil based on the official requirements of your car manufacturer and on official testing results!
We’ll perform a lubricity test, followed by a cold viscosity test, an evaporation test and finally another cold viscosity test for the heated oil. At the end of the video, we’ll compare the results and see which is the best.
At the end of the video, I thought that it would be a nice idea to have a rating for the products that I test. So, based on the general 5 star rating used all over, I made my rating to better suit my personality. The rating is based on my testing and my opinion of a specific product. It takes into consideration many factors like performance, reliability, availability and many other aspects which are essential to a consumer. Of course, some of these factors may not be applicable to other regions or demographics. As price is another factor in this rating, a product may be cheaper in other regions, rendering my rating as inadequate. In this case, you should reconsider if the product is suitable for you or not.

Hi thanks for this test as there was no private testing videos available for Amsoil and Repsol. Got clarity on the product and was surprised by Valvoline beating Amsoil in lubricity test as it excelled every other competitors in testing by Project Farm

everyone does car oil but motorcycle oil has many more components and has to contend with more parts/debris such as clutch dust, would be very interesting.

Interesting video. There is a small nuance and that is that they are not comparable oils, Valvoline and Repsol are ACEA C3, more viscous oils with high HTHS while Amsoil and Polytron are ILSAC GF, less viscous and with low HTS, different oils for different engines. I`ve used Valvoline MaxLife 10W40 in my 2.0 16V + LPG Peugeot 406 for 11 years with interwals 15k. No problems whatsoever. The oil was recommended to me, and I stayed with it until I sold the car.

It would be interesting to sea a test comparing 5w30 and 5w40 to see if that brings any benefits or not. Most of the diesel cars can use both grades and there is a lot of dicusion on this topic on all manufacturers forums.

The lost oil protection test is actually really cool. Granted, rarely will an oil save your engine after it is gone, but the extra bit of protection in case of momentary pressure loss or other issues is nice!

Great method of testing!! However please compare oils with the same specs for comparison to be equal. Use 504/507 oils from different manufacturers.

Un prieten a făcut o analiză de ulei uzat la Valvoline SynPower XL III C3 5w30 în Passatul lui B6 după 10000 și rezultatul a fost excelent, valori de uzură surprinzător de mici în condițiile în care avea câteva procente de contaminare cu motorină. Un ulei excelent, acest brand ar merita mai multă atenție întrucât face produse foarte bune.

Great video ! I was just reviewing about 70 other oils on another site written and tested by an engineer - he used a psi film strength test on various oils some tested as high as 115,000 psi - and the best all around oils for any modern motor be a 5w30 grade ! I myself use amsoil - valvoline and castrol !

Depends on what you consider warm climate. Don't consider every morning during winter it's 10°C, it could be minus 0 easily but course if you plan to use it in a place where -15 or more are relatively easy to reach it isn't the best choice. Even though I pay a strong attention to the cold performance. It's something I can't control. Engine when is hot it's at 100°C at the oil sump and thanks to the coolant system the car manage that if your driving style doesn't overheat the oil But starting the engine is the worse. Main reason because I pay a little more for the oil

@@davidgm756 I bought Repsol C2 5w-30. We had -25C temperature three weeks ago. Repsol was worse choice, when I compared it with Zic X7, Neste Pro C2, Fuchs Titan 2290. Repsol have pour point at -36C. These oil only for hot climates: Spain, Portugal, Italy, South America, Latinos etc

Hee Sergiu. I have my own way of judging engine oils, which is: Put it into the engine, start a test drive, rev it up above 5000 rev, and carefully listen as well as feel the vibes. The sound you are looking for is hard to describe, but you are looking for maximum smooth- and quietness. Oils may have all the same specs, but the noise at high revs differentiates them directly. My experience: cheap oils makes crap sound at high rpm and will make you fear the engine is coming apart😁

Sergiu your tests are great and reliable. I watch most of them. Thanks for all these nice works. I think most important point was your test method validation. And secondly heating up the oils from 20 to 90 degrees during the test. Please make a new comparison video with 5w30 oils: Motul 8100 X-clean+, Castrol Edge LL, Mobil 1 ESP and Liqui Moly Top Tech 4200.

Hello Sergiu The Valvoline is a A3_ C3 Rated oil. A3/C3 oils to my knowledge offer better protection than oils like amsoil SS which is an A1/B1 Spec GF-6 etc Amsoil combines Group 4 oil as well as Group 3. None the less I enjoy your videos and your Humor😆I hope you start making more of them. Thank you!

Another oil recommendation for test - agrinol (Ukraine) 5w40, it is available in Bulgaria and extremely cheap, also Mannol 5w40 extreme is another cheap oil but is very very easy to find, and no issues with using it for the last 3-4 years

Hello Sergiu, very interesting comparison, especially the claim of the polytron additive that you found to be questionable. I have always wondered about Castrol magnatron claims that the oil sticks to the metal parts to proptect at cold starts when some parts have drained of oil. Would you please be able to design a test to test this claim, and see how other oils compare. Thanks Raoul.

Here is a recomendation, take a look at the Xenum XPG Ester PAG, I use it in my bike (+vrx500, antifriction aditive) and works amazing. The price is similar to a Castrol Edge at about 50 Euros for 4L, there are also 1L bottles (At least in Spain) I belive the quliti vs price is quite good considering is a group V oil. If i remember correctly they are made in Belgium, so I asume it will be easy to get in Romania.

Man thanks for your video.. but for more oils range results please do full saps oil tests. I want to see a3/b4 oils in your test. Like motul 8100 xcess( not xclean) and (castrol edge a3/b4 version) and valvoline. The (C2 and c3 and c4) category not made for high performance cars like i have( for example mercedes amg engines needs oil 229.5 certifcation ) . Thanks

Hey thanks alot for your videos. Are you thinking of making a video about ATF fluid? I have an Audi A4 B8 with an automatic transmission and the fluid is a very expensive fluid that cost almost 90$ CAD! PER QUARTER! There are a companies like Valvoline, liqui moly and amsoil that claim their fluid is compatible but because of makes this transmission they are the only ones with the magic formula. It will be nice to find out if people can use other fluid since ZF monopoly is absurd . Thanks again and in looking forward for your next video!

Divinol-ul este mai greu cunoscut ca brand in Romania, merge mult pe partea industriala a lubrifiantilor, pe partea auto/utilaje constructii si agricultura merge mai putin, banii multi vin din industrie.

I thought AMSOIL is a Group 4 oil. At least that's what their website says. Unlike Europe, here in USA, Group 3 oils can be marketed as "Full Synthetic" but Group 4 usually marketed as "100% Synthetic".

Tq sir for good work..just something come in my mind..can you make an experiment base on rotational speed? The idea is by using turbine or gear spinning inside the oil. Measure with and without oil speed using rotational speed sensor and compare between oil who's better in term of viscosity and performance..

Amsoil signature series has PAO and Ester. Cant speak for or against other brands as I did not study them. Valvoline is also world know quality product.

Min 9:46 . Pentru cei care inteleg ce este aceea uzura ... Se vede clar ca Polytron este peste toate celelalte... Uitati-va la textura uzurii... Celelalte uleiuri au rupt materialul, lasand gauri si santuri, Polytron nu a facut asa ceva...iar faptul ca uzura pare putin mai mare poate fi corelata cu distanta de la care s-a facut poza...te apropii 2cm si clar pare o suprafata mai mare. In fine...nu stiu ce vrea acest individ sa demonstreze dar Imaginea din min 9:46 arata clar o diferenta mare intre polytron si restul uleiurilor.

Salut, despre PETRONAS Selénia WR Pure Energy 5W-30 ce parere ai? Il folosesc de 2 ani la un corsa cdti (motorul e facut in parteneriat fiat si e recomandat de ei) vine in 1 sau 2 litri in cutie de metal facut in Torino. E mult mai silentios motorasul doar ca nu-s clarificat daca e ok totusi nefiind recomandat de GM care vrea doar ACEA C3 (selenia fiind c2). Mersi
