Here I install the HLI control board in the saucer and connect it to the LEDs inside. Then I go over how I installed LED lighting in the lower hull.

Excellent work on this so far especially for the scale. I'm surprised they haven't made a much larger one by now.

It's a great little board and you can't beat the price for sure.

Still enjoying this series and working on my kit. I did not have good luck with the craft paints. I even had the same Folk Art brand you were using. I'm sure it was me (maybe not thinned correctly and using a standard Badger Patriot Airbrush). Ended up stripping the craft paint and am using Tamiya Acrylics. The scraping method is working fine with those paints as well. Also really good tips on soldering. I invested in a Hakko soldering station years ago - well worth it for that type of work.
@TrekWorks2 жыл бұрын
It took me awhile to figure out the craft paints. How to thin them etc. You definitely have to run them through a fine strainer to remove the micro chunks in it otherwise the air brush will clog a lot making you think the paint is too thick.

@@TrekWorks Thanks Boyd. That makes sense, I didn't do that. I'll try them again on another project. The color was perfect and the price is right!

Good tip on soldering. Also it’s real good to always have clean tips and tips stored pre tinned. I have the Weller station but it doesn’t tell you the temp just a dial that goes 1-6. It be nice if they made that model in 1/900 scale. If I ever attempt the Big E-E. I’m going to do the deflector in blue. That was the original idea for the enterprise but when they made the set for the borg on the dish scene they made it in yellow. Oops.

I think I might use something like this when i make my STID Enterprise, but i am going to add a Bluetooth speaker unit inside to add sound. very cool ideas.

Looking really good Boyd. You've done another amazing build. I don't know if you mentioned in one of your parts. How come you didn't use a small SMD SPOT in the top front to shine the NCC-1701-E ? I've just started mine same way as you demonstrated. I'm on that point where I am drilling holes for the NAV and Strobes to go. I really want to use a SPOT in the Top Front.

So many great tips for handling this kit. Thanks for inspiring those of us who have drilled this kit before to have another go at it. And without our eyes and wrists aching in anticipation :D Do you know when the decals will be available for purchase? There's no way I'm going to do all that masking by hand again!
@TrekWorks2 жыл бұрын
I have the prototype set of the decals and if all goes well applying them, I'm sure they'll be available right after that.

Thinking this method of lighting windows would work well with the new 1/1000 Voyager clear edition kit. It's really semi-opaque white plastic from what I've seen. Soldering to circuit boards still gives me trouble. It's all about timing,

I'm Trying to find acrylic paint that I can use on my models that are usable in air brushes, Model paints are too expensive for my big models, what do you recommend?
