My Dad built me this boat in 1960. He also built a 59 Corvette that pulled it. Great model! Another awesome job.

Growing up my dad had a ‘57, Chris Craft Continental. It had a Chrysler Marine engine tunnel drive that he pulled out because we were always having trouble with the motor. He put a MerCruiser into the boat in 1959, and never had another problem.

I remember this kit when I was a kid in the 60's. Several years ago it was re-released so I purchased several from Wal-Mart cheap. Yea, back in the days when Wal-Mart had a lot of model kits. They were selling the new AMT issue of the Ala Kart for $4.44 and hobby shops were getting upwards of $13.00. You did a great job building your kit.

The bottom paint should be copper bronze antifouling. The rudder and the propeller should also be bronze color. The boat needs an exhaust stack coming out of the transom just above the water line also called a boot stripe. Best boat should have a white boot stripe that runs between the copper bronze bottom paint and the varnish mahogany Hall sides. A nice build though.

Nice job on both the kit and the video. It was great to pay attention to the video without the distraction of bad camera work, bad sound and bad language. I recently purchased an earlier version that is molded in gray and has a very slight difference in the decal sheet. Otherwise, the kit is identical. This kit could easily have been adjusted to build two complete boats with an extra hull and a few small additional parts. I'll also say that a price of $26.00 (at my local hobby shop) is ridiculous. The kit is so simplified that in can be fully assembled in no time. Still, I'm glad to see it re-released. You did a great job with yours.
@hpiguy7 жыл бұрын
One extra hull and you'd have a true double kit. Maybe they will do that on the next release, that would be cool. Thanks for the nice words!

@@randytaylor1258 Well, you're Johnny-on-the-spot, I wrote that four years ago. Nonetheless, what the hell good is a second deck without a hull? At the time I wrote that comment I was just getting back into modeling and the prices took me by surprise. Now I'm seeing kits at $31.95 and I don't feel any better if there are extra parts I don't see myself ever using.

@@mitchgawlik1175 When I was heavily into modelling 1:25 cars, 3-in-1 kits sold firv$2U.S./$3.20Cdn. Those same kits in the same boxes are now $25-35. If that's the going rate for a srandard-sized AMT or MPC or Revell KITS, then that's the price on the kit. I didn't say it was a deal but on the other hand, after a few hours with a boat kit you've got a finished model to show for you efforts. That isn't true with a more expensive Tamiya or Trumpeter kit which, of course, runs the risk of not being finished. There are many different ways of looking at value. I have $200 kits in my basement that will take me a year to finish.
@mitchgawlik11752 жыл бұрын
@@randytaylor1258 I appreciate what you're saying. I also understand the value of U.S. currency. I have no idea how long you've been modeling but I've been at it since 1959 (9 years old), off and on. You can't imagine how much I enjoyed those oh so simple 3-in-1 and Craftsman kits from AMT. When I post comments on a couple of other sits wishing that Round 2 consider repopping those kits I get a resounding YES! from readers. I'm glad for those of you who are getting what you desire from Round 2, along with those spare parts. My wish is that Round 2 would consider that there is a group out there who really love those older, simpler kits. That's easy to figure out when you see the prices asked for absolute trash on ebay. Give me an AMT '59 Galaxie, a '59 Buick Invicta, '59 Olds and a '59 Pontiac and I'll be silent forever, except to give a big thank you to Round 2. Thanks for your thoughful comments.

They must've had a short run of them in the late 90's? I found one on eBay like 20 years ago moulded in grey. It's a future project to pair with a resin '48 Ford Sportsman (converted to a "phantom" '42) for a wartime look, with trailer. I plan to make it a two seater because of the bigger straight eight Lincoln engine out of the "Gangbusters" '26 kit. I even found a nice accurate looking spilt windshield on a toy car to use.

The one piece hull was revolutionary. Major companies, including Palmer, were still making cars with multi-piece bodies, with sides that glued to the hood, trunk, and interior. This was the future -- spend your time painting and detailing instead of fighting with glue, putty, sandpaper, and clamps.
