Traveled this route many, many times and it’s always a pleasure to see our beautiful coastline. Get a chance, go to Santa Barbara by train and that too is a thrilling ride. Comfortable, no hassle with the LA traffic and enjoy the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean.

I travel on the Pacific Surfliners from San Diego to Los Angeles & Oxnard when I’m ho,e in the San Diego area. I alternate my visits between Los Angeles & Ventura every other visit home to the San Diego area. When I go to Ventura I get off in Oxnard and take he number 6 Gold Coast Transit bus to Victoria Blue & Moon Drive to visit there in that part of Ventura. With the tracks in excellent condition, Amtrak can run the Pacific Surfliners from San Diego to Los Angeles in 90 minutes if the damned FRA would allow them to, that would maintain safety & at the same time increase ridership even more. Riding the Pacific Surfliner beats driving I-5/U.S.101 parking lots where people slow down when there is no accidents, no wet & foggy weather and no construction zones, this freeway slowing down is done on purpose.

Rode the Surfliner last year. took the Disney Cruise out of San Diego, so we headed over to Santa Fe station and headed to Disneyland Anaheim. We weren’t in a rush and I simply adore trains. My husband indulges my love for travel and bought us business class tickets, we were on the second floor with surf side windows. We brought snacks with us and had a little cocktail and we jiggle joggled up the coast to Anaheim. Which is a newer modern station unlike the historical Santa Fe Station. The ride to the Grand Californian from the Anaheim station was 15-20 minutes. I highly recommend the trip.

The closest point of the ocean matches with the map and my picture as Dona point . Just to add they give snacks and beverages complimentary in business class besides a nice cafe in one of the cars serving hot snacks . All in all a memorable trip indeed and a must visit at least with kids .

This video is skipping and missing an important segment which is after solana beach before arriving in old town. Maybe this segment is skipped because it is uneventful With no good scenery. But it should’ve been kept just to illustrate how incredibly slow this train becomes during that section. When I slate say slow I am talking about 5 mph maybe 10. And it goes on for a considerable stretch of time. I can understand why to a large extent because the train tracks wind their way through an upper he’ll pass and maybe it winding so much makes this necessary. But this eats up a tremendous amount of time and I pretty sure extends the duration of this trip about one hour longer than it needs to be. They need to make a goal of changing the path of the tracks changing the tracks themselves or whatever they need to do to make sure that this train is always moving at least 50 mph between stations. Sometimes this is not possible in downtown Los Angeles because it is making away for freight trains also so that part I understand. But right now this is I believe a 3 1/2 hour train ride from downtown Los Angeles to downtown San Diego which I think is ridiculous and is not going to get people out of their cars except for Sunday evening or some other periods of time where interstate five traffic is beyond ridiculous and then finally it actually becomes practical to take the train. This Windee stretch appears after you have passed Salina Beach as I said and they need to lay a different path and get a straight path to downtown San Diego without the winding track to allow that train to really move fast. When you look at this video even when they are missing the specific part I am mentioning you can still tell that at the salon a beach the sections they do show are noticeably slower than the train passing through Irvine or South Orange County or northern San Diego County. If they could just/F1 hour off this trip it would get people to ride this train more even if it is not a high-speed train.
