On January 12, 2015, BNSF Maintenance of Way welding crews are getting onto the north track of the mainline east of Agency, Iowa. The first two hi-rail trucks both go a short distance east of the Chief Wapello Road crossing.
Right as the second hi-railer starts moving (and preceded by a radio warning), the eastbound "California Zephyr" is seen coming around the bend kicking up a lot of the fresh snow that fell yesterday. Behind the regular Genesis diesels pulling Amtrak #6 is a brand new ACS-64 electric locomotive going to the Northeast Corridor. After the Amtrak Cities Sprinter is the baggage car AMTK 1235. This car is part of Amtrak's heritage fleet since it was inherited by Amtrak when they took over passenger operations in 1971. 1235 was built for the Santa Fe Railway as ATSF 3514 by the Budd Company in 1953. With the coming shortening of train consists for the winter and the heritage baggage cars' Viewliner replacements starting to be delivered, this is most likely the last time an ACS-64 will be coupled to a heritage baggage car on the "California Zephyr."
After #6 has gone by, the third hi-rail truck gets onto Main 1. Unlike the first two trucks, this one is a Burlington Northern Railroad truck. It hasn't had its markings changed since the merger. The orange BN hi-railer goes west to do its work.
Two days ago, this same train #6 was filmed by another KZbin user near Reno, Nevada: • Amtrak Train 6 with AC... .
