Thank you so much for watching! I hope you enjoyed as it was nice to have some extra fun with the writing and editing. Make sure you check out Bill Wurtz’s “history of Japan” ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5mYfYxqgt9ka9Esi=yqE--BMXIOF8FG6l ) and “entire history of the world, I guess” ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqamn2urrZeamNUsi=CH2ER-4doYlzcDs- ) because those were my inspirations, I’m aware some people are confused about the style. Mind you this wasn’t meant to be an exact recreation of his style and more of a fusion with my style.

@@sniper.93c14 According to wikipedia The most common international definition of high-speed rail (speeds above 155 mph (250 km/h) on newly built lines and speeds above 124 mph (200 km/h) on upgraded lines), The northeast corridor ia technically an upgraded line so im going to count above 124MPH as HSR Metroliner max speed is 150mph but its operational speed is 120MPH, just falling short of being a HSR, so its a SHSR The aerotrain design speed is 100mph (youch even a steam engine is faster) But the operational speed is 80MPH (even some freight engines are faster lmao) so its technically just normal speed Acela is designed for 200MPH but its operational speed is 150 so it counts as a highspeed train Edit: i forgot youre talking about the turbotrain and not the aerotrain Sorey

Even worse we made Mexico denationalize for NAFTA and then killed their passenger service, though it wasn't doing that well before then, and the culturally similar Canadians and, to a certain degree, Australians and New Zealanders followed suit besides the fact that we haven't helped many countries south of the border. Essentially, we destroyed the North American network from its peak to its almost skeletal form and set the example or allowed them to rot for 11 other networks. If you wonder why competent or semicompeteny railroads are now mostly an old world phenomenon, it's our fault.

The history of railways in Sweden dates back to the locomotive contest in Rainhill, England in 1829. One of the contesting locomotives, ”Novelty”, was constructed in England, but the designed by the Swedish inventor John Ericsson. It is the first locomotive to be designed by a Swede. The first railway line in Sweden went from the capital of Stockholm to the suburb of Södertälje and opened in 1860. Later in the 1860s, the West Main Line (Västra stambanan) opened. It was a cross country line, and it went from Stockholm to Göteborg on the Swedish west coast. In the following decades, most of the main lines were built, such as the Southern Main Line (Södra stambanan) (1874), the East Coast Line (Ostkustbanan) (1866), the Freight Route across Bergslagen (Godsstråket genom Bergslagen) (1900), the Northern Main Line (Norra stambanan) (1881), The Main Line across upper Norrland (Stambanan genom övre Norrland) (1894), the Iron Ore Line (Malmbanan) (1903), the Inland Line (Inlandsbanan) (1937), The Center Line (Mittbanan) (1882), the Bergslagen Line (Bergslagsbanan) (1879) and the Dala Line (Dalabanan) (1914). During the 1800s and early 1900s, there was also shorter lines which was often not connected to any of the main lines. The Swedish State Railways (”Statens Järnvägar”, ”SJ” in short), was founded in 1856. Back then, nearly all of the above named lines were private owned, but in the 1920s and 30s, SJ started to buy lines and cut out the traffic on the lines that wasn’t profitable due to low number of travels. They also started to electrify most of the main lines. The traffic cut out continued after the second world war, and in the 1950s, SJ started to run quite a few bus routes all over the country. The last steam powered locomotive was taken out of regular traffic in 1972, and the 3rd class disappeared during that time as well. In november of 1998, three men from SJ Board quit and founded their own company, ”Tågkompaniet”. This was a huge success, and more and more private railway companies was founded in the 1990s and early 2000s. Although SJ still runs traffic on the major rutes such as Stockholm - Göteborg, Stockholm - Malmö, Stockholm - Sundsvall, Stockholm - Luleå, Stockholm - Narvik and Stockholm - Oslo, there are many private companies which runs traffic on regional routes as well. Many shorter lines continues to be disused, but other has been renovated and capacity increased with sometimes brand new stations served by the area’s local traffic company. The Arlanda Line (Arlandabanan) opened in 2012 and goes from Rosersberg on the East Coast Line to Arlanda Airport 40 kms north of Stockholm. The airport itself opened in 1960, but back then, people had to either walk or take a taxi or a bus directly to Stockholm or to Märsta railway station, 3 kms from Arlanda. The Arlanda Line is served by three stations located in a railway tunnel under the airport. The Botnia Line (Botniabanan) goes from Västeraspby on the world famous High Coast (Höga kusten) along the east coast to Umeå. It was opened in 2010. There are plans to extended it to Luleå, 300 kms further north. In Luleå, it will connect with the Iron Ore Line. The City Line (Citybanan) is a 6 kms long railway tunnel in downtown Stockholm served by commuter trains. Another railway tunnel is the Western Link (Västlänken) in Göteborg. It is currently under construction.

Loved the video, but I have one issue as a British person. You forgot the mention that it was isambard kingdom brunel who finally got us using the rail gauge we use now, also he did a lot for the railways here, plus he designed some pretty bridges.
