I started singing when my friend jokingly said, "Bad singing is normal, talented singers are the outliers." It's like drawing. Everyone can scribble anything. You can improve your drawing through study and practice. When someone's bad at drawing, we don't pick on them because it's normal not to draw like Michelangelo or Leonardo.
@topnotch32324 жыл бұрын

Yes,yes! You got the point! I mean,I was like I'll never learn how to draw realism,and I practiced and I can draw it, it's still not hyperealism,but I'll get there.. It's same with singing,I play the piano and I can say that I am okay with it but I always had a wish to be a singer..And yeah my confidence is so like so low,but if I could learn how to draw,I can do the same with singing (but ofc just to mention,I kinda have some talent for drawing,I mean,I can understand it pretty well,so that's the reason why I have big and faster improvement for drawing,but for singing not really).😆

tmantheman my voice was messed up recently. I used to love it sounding very punk like and raw and so I learned Faux Tenor technique. I could sing up to Bb 4 in a belting voice and G5 in a falsetto. After playing a couple of gigs with that voice I found after 30 minutes I would really struggle and strain. I revaluated and in two months time I feel major difference in my voice and in the health of myself.

@michaeljeffmamigo9704 жыл бұрын
That's one thing you should stop. Not believing in your voice. Every voice is unique in its own way. Your voice is not terrible. Believe that it's not terrible and you can start developing your singing voice. This only applies if you don't have any vocal damage. If your voice sounds hoarse, airy, breathy, or unnatural, you should try seeing a doctor to check if there are abnormalities in your throat. That way, you'll know what you need to do with your singing so the "damage" won't worsen. I hope this helped. Your voice is not terrible :)
@pardifowl4 жыл бұрын
To add to this: I've always hated the way I talk and the way I sing cause I have a feminine voice like freddy mercury and always wanted more of a ray lamontagnue voice. But in the last few years I've really started appreciating the fact that my voice is mine and it's wholly unique and I should have been proud all along. So now I'm writing music that suits my voice and it sounds like butter. Also losing weight affects your voice a lot, never knew until I started Keto recently but it sounds a lot less like thick cold butter and more like microwaved butter. Mmm

My 3 rules if you want to sing. 1. Don't get jealous if someone can sing better than you, sometimes you tend to be annoy by your friend or family when they are singing because they are better than you and you even distract them by doing bad singing. 2. Don't insult others if they can't sing well 3. Feel the song and appreciate all kind of music.

I'm self-taught, and have been at it for decades. What changed my voice was being in a band, having the lowest voice, yet singing all the high harmonies without falsetto. I was the front, so the majority of vocal work was mine. This also opened things up. This experience matured my voice quickly, within a couple years. It, the band broke up... time to move on. I went solo acoustic for the next 20 years, and worked a bunch. The steady work also gave me not only power, but a presence. I could go anywhere, cold, BOOM... heads turned. What really helped was being instructed on harmonica tone by a legendary master. He gave me a 3 minute lesson that not only changed my harmonica tone around, it helped my singing, because he taught me about how your body, from your lips to diaphragm, affect your tone. I discovered that the same principles apply to both disciplines... remarkable. Music is endless... no matter how good you get, there's always room for improvement. Presently, I am challenged by my pronunciations of lyrics, learning how to exaggerate for clarity sake, and, I have a tendency to habitually accentuate my R's... very annoying. Good video. I'm becoming elderly... which is also providing challenges with my whole body... every day is an effort to hang on to what I've got... and still have growth where I want it. BTW, I will continue to listen to my favorite singers... I learned to play guitar and harmonica by copying masters... I don't try to sound like them, but learning their chops gave me tools to have my own voice... So, I will disagree with you there. Listening is a skill that comes from practice. It is easily half of what being a good musician is. Keep up the good work, you have shit to learn too... but you do know more than beginners... I liked that opening recording, with the falsetto crack... well done! I'll have to work on that.

I’m starting to realize I might have allergies that are changing my sound for the worse recently. Seemed like no matter how much I worked in my technique I would sound like I’m singing around a cold a lot. Some days though it wasn’t there at all. I noticed the same sound when I speak too. I’m hoping I figure this out because honestly I’m getting pretty damn good at singing finally :). I’ll have a few new covers coming on my channel soon with some clean parts.

Like any other muscle it requires working it out to get stronger and gaining proper muscle memory. Always do at least 3 relatively low volumed songs for warm up. Do about as many extreme or hard songs as you feel comfortable doing without feeling like you're straining your larynx. Don't forget to let the air flow out when you sing because after all that's how sound travels, also when you work your voice out by working on the voices you can't do or are having a hard time doing - don't be afraid to sing louder and gradually get looser to be able to do it quieter for more control, and activating your throat muscles that stop you from singing and singing louder will help work out the muscle actually opening your larynx and allowing air to flow out stronger. These are some tips if you want. * Oh I almost forgot, take at least 2 days apart from hard workouts to let yourself heal and get stronger, meanwhile at that time if you feel like you can you should work on technique rather than on singing to get to know your voice and larynx better.

"Stop listening to your parents". God, I wish it were that easy. They actively discourage me from singing. They've done that for so long that I can't even sing in my own car out of fear sometimes.

James Tangman this pisses me off so much. Every time my bf tried to sing his mom would say “who sings that? Let them sing it instead!” He has such a pretty voice that needs some tuning if he would be free to practice but he can’t because of the constant discouragement :(

Alot of singers are like actors. You don't really like your own performance. You know whether or not you can sing, but hearing ones own voice is just weird & different.

Hey Adam, every time I'm singing over some songs I always try to sound like the artist, is that basically the point number 1? So I should just try to sing their songs with my voice to get better and not imitate their voice? Love your work!
@land_njr114 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's exactly what he's talking about!
@Krlosp4rdo4 жыл бұрын
I would say it's not necessarily that. You should stop trying to sound exactly like x or z singer BUT you can imitate their coordinations to learn. Every singer does different stuff and you can learn a little bit from them but you have to apply that to your own voice and figure out how those vocal coordinations sound with your unique voice. Hope I made some sense. Good luck

In short: 1. Sls 2. The proof is in the singing (c) 3. Something from selfhelp/motivation 4. Come as you are 5. No money - no honey.
@jxst.joshing4 жыл бұрын
To me his Nr. 1 doesn't necessarily mean you should do sls. In my opinion sls even encourages beginner singers to alter their voice because they get a wrong idea of mixed voice and early bridging. When speaking relaxed in your natural voice you're creating the maximum amount of overtones which is what you also want to achieve when singing. But by altering your voice by tensing your larynx muscles or adding air or changing placement etc. you're losing overtones.

And definitely being in an Indian born family where no one have the slightest understanding of the lyrics in family except the singer himself. So I started singing under blankets so the voice don't come out like breaking window panes or something. Even , born as countertenor so obviously the voice has higher range upto 4 octaves with ease. But as Indian singing and western singing differ more or less , then think I am some sort of baby crying or screaming. So that's the whole problem I literally face everyday.

Hey Adam, love these videos...you mentioned in another clip - chest voice and head voice...I find it easier to use head voice for high notes but as i go up scale from low to high there's a glitch like the note gets lost in the transition point between chest V. and Head V., is there an exercise to remedy this?
